Superhumans of the Dome City
Chapter 432 - 432 4 Distant Longing Part 2_4

432: Chapter 4: Distant Longing (Part 2)_4 432: Chapter 4: Distant Longing (Part 2)_4 Thanks to Gongsun Ce’s reminder, which provided ample time, he finally found the device he needed.

With just five more seconds, he would be able to finish setting the parameters and start the video call with peace of mind…

Just at that moment, the door to the laboratory slammed open.

The owner of Cecil Laboratory, a woman named Dr.

Reena Cecil, strode into the room with her usual neurotic tone, “What time is it now?

You should have been done 5 minutes ago, don’t waste my time!”

“You, go out and wait—”

Mo Yuankai hastily covered his phone.

However, not being skilled at lying, he made a fatal mistake.

“Mo?

You’re in the bedroom, right?”

“Yes, I’m just changing clothes, I’ll be ready in a moment—”

Somehow, Orianna’s voice sounded three degrees colder.

“Mr.

Mo Yuankai.

Could you explain…

why you are meeting with a lady in your private room in such an unkempt state?”

For the first time, Mo Yuankai fully realized.

He was totally screwed.

·

Big brother!

What the hell are you doing, big brother!!!

Gongsun Ce screamed in his heart.

The knight, who just a moment ago had appeared like an angel in passionate love, had turned into a fallen angel in less than half a second.

The temperature in the room dropped as if the Ice Age had returned, and Orianna’s eyes seemed to glaze over with a layer of frost.

So cold, so terrifying, someone save me!

If things kept going like this, it wouldn’t just be his big brother who was going to suffer, he, Gongsun Ce, would be done for too!

“Orianna, listen to me, let me explain—”

The information broker’s unconvincing defense was cut off by another neurotic female voice.

“His room?!

This is MY territory, my private space!!”

“Oh, which means,” Orianna said, articulating each word, “you are chatting with me about past times…

in another lady’s private room.”

“Orianna, calm down!

It’s not what you think!”

“I am calm, sir.

I never thought you possessed such a remarkable acting talent, enough to attend the Royal Academy of Arts!”

Doctor Cecil’s shrill scream only worsened the situation, “You’re chatting with a woman on my territory?!”

“Can you keep it down?!”

Gongsun Ce swallowed hard, readying his escape plan.

Now he just needed to grab this damned communication device and leap from the window.

Once Orianna cooled down, he’d let his big brother contact her!

He turned swiftly, prepared to take action—

“Gongsun Ce, give me the device.”

The female knight’s silver gauntlet clamped on his right arm like a vice.

“This device seems to have some issues that I need to—”

“Please, give, me.”

So terrifying!

She’s turned from a fallen angel into an avenging goddess nooooo!

Gongsun Ce made one final attempt, “Listen to me, that woman isn’t—”

His voice grew fainter under the increasing pressure on his arm, and eventually, he had no choice but to hand over the device in silence.

Gongsun Ce silently crossed himself over his chest for his big brother.

At this point, brother, aside from praying, there’s really nothing else I can do to help…

Orianna snatched the communication device and began to furiously tap on the screen with her fingers.

Anger and urgency combined to lend her the power to surpass any tech illiterate, and she successfully hit the video call button just below.

Against the backdrop of Gongsun Ce’s silent, ghost-like screams, the video call started!

“Mr.

Mo Yuankai!

How could you—”

Orianna stopped mid-sentence because the scene at the other end of the screen was vastly different from what she’d expected: neatly arranged papers on the desk, a complex model visible on the computer monitor, a schedule partially visible by the worktable, filled to the brim with penciled-in handwriting.

Her heartthrob was sitting at the desk, nestled in the chair, wearing a loosely fitting white lab coat, looking much the same as he had three years before.

Standing at the doorway was a strange blonde lady, looking anxious and sleep-deprived.

“I’m sorry, Orianna.

I lied to you.” Mo Yuankai lowered his head, “I wasn’t in the bedroom…

I was in the laboratory.

Let me introduce you, this is Reena Cecil, the leading scientist of Sky City, and also my current collaborator.”

“So what?

You were…”

“I was chatting with a girl, so I’ll give you the blueprints ten minutes late.” Mo Yuankai emphasized the word “girl.”

The female doctor in the corner of the room exaggeratedly shook her head, said nothing, and turned to slam the door shut.

Mo Yuankai smiled apologetically, and the two fell silent for a moment.

Orianna opened her mouth awkwardly and whispered, “I’m sorry, I thought…”

“You shouldn’t be the one apologizing; it’s all my fault,” Mo Yuankai sighed, “I was afraid you would worry, and too embarrassed to say it was inconvenient, so I told a lie like Ah Ce.

In the end, I’ve made a complete mess of things.

I’m such an idiot.”

Damn it, you couples quarrel and even pull me in for a scolding.

However, Gongsun Ce didn’t say this out loud.

He quietly opened the door, stepped outside the room, leaving time for the two to be alone.

“You should rest more, Mo!” Orianna said with concern, “At least take a nap in the afternoon…”

“I will.

You know that the second machine performed well this time; of course, I will continue to work overtime on subsequent research.”

The long-haired man on the screen smiled just as he had in the past.

“There’s no reason to let everyone else fight to the death on the frontline, and I am the only one slacking off behind, right?

I wouldn’t be able to sleep peacefully then.”

Orianna knew that anything else she said would be pointless.

This man had always been like this, acting with an inexplicable sense of responsibility.

He had always charged to the forefront, stepping up to fight for others, and now he continued to work silently in the unseen, fulfilling his role for everyone.

“Ah…” She could understand his thoughts, so she could only sigh helplessly.

“Promise me to take care of your health, okay?”

“You too, Orianna!” Mo Yuankai chuckled, “Don’t push yourself too hard.”

“Do I look that tired?”

“It’s evident in your eyes.”

“I admit it’s been harder than in the past, but we all have to take on responsibilities,” the female knight said gently, “I miss you very much, but I cannot simply do as I wish and go to Sky City right now.”

“It’s okay!

There will definitely be a day when we can both move freely,” Mo Yuankai said earnestly, “I promise you, that day will surely come.”

“Mm!” The female knight smiled from her heart, “I believe you!”

·

Sky City, Cecil Laboratory.

Mo Yuankai chatted with the girl for a few more moments, then cut off the communication.

He reached out and turned off the disguise device—that was what he had been searching for as soon as he answered the call.

Thus, the handsome long-haired guy disappeared, and the round, pudgy information trader returned.

He settled into his chair, his belly protruding, his black short hair making him look remarkably ordinary, without a hint of glamour.

The door of the single room opened, and Reena Cecil stood by the door.

“I always thought you were a man of generous spirit,” she said with a sidelong glance.

Mo Yuankai leaned back into the chair: “All men have vanity.”

“Idiot, she doesn’t like you for your hair, face, or abilities.”

“She’s a good girl,” the information trader said bitterly, “so I don’t want to disappoint her, nor do I want her to worry…”

“God, you sound like a lovesick schoolboy who just started junior high!”

Mo Yuankai looked at the ceiling and smiled helplessly.

“What’s a man in love if not a fool?”

·

And just like that, the minor commotion quietly came to an end.

Orianna, carrying what was called a “high-tech communicator,” hummed a tune as she walked down the corridor.

Her lively demeanor made the atmosphere wherever she went feel like a spring garden, even the usually nonchalant Agent Will showed a surprised expression.

Gongsun Ce didn’t hear the conversation between the two that followed, nor did he know what his brother said back in Sky City.

He only watched the female knight’s figure, silently praying in his heart.

He hoped that when these two truly met, his brother would have succeeded in losing weight.

Otherwise, it was bound to be the start of an incredibly awful, terrifying ordeal…
