Chapter 424 - 424 2 Midnight Snack Rhapsody Part 3
424: Chapter 2 Midnight Snack Rhapsody (Part 3) 424: Chapter 2 Midnight Snack Rhapsody (Part 3) “Is this how you’re supposed to eat it?!” Shiyu Ling couldn’t help but exclaim.
“Yeah,” Crush lifted his head and said straightforwardly, “You gotta mix it all together to eat it right.”
It sounded so reasonable!
Though the stir-mixed rice didn’t look pretty at all, the tantalizing aroma didn’t lie.
Compared to unimportant factors like looking good for photos or eating elegantly, what’s always most important is how to eat so that it’s “delicious”!
As they spoke, the shop owner brought over a second serving of the normal-sized donburi (it still looked like the special large size, though) and delivered a large bowl of miso soup and an extra-large chilled energy drink.
“Things are really tough lately…” The shop owner, who had finished bustling about, sat on a stool and began to chat casually with the two regulars.
“Isn’t that the truth?
We all have it hard.” Most of the conversation was engaged by Crush, and Shiyu Ling only interjected occasionally.
The sushi chef chatting about the little things in life with two casually dressed ninjas created a strangely harmonious atmosphere.
Eavesdropping on others isn’t very polite.
Gongsun Ce collected his thoughts, lighting up his plate again while imagining the taste of the donburi, and pondering over how to pay the bill.
“About that donburi…””I was feeling that donburi…”
The two investigators began speaking at the same time and cleared their throats awkwardly.
However, this minimal disturbance couldn’t escape a ninja’s hearing.
“Yeah,” Crush put down his spoon halfway through his meal and chugged half the bottle of an iced drink.
“Boss, make some for that table over there, too.
It’s on me.”
“Oh!
That’s really too kind of you!” Noticing the two customers’ attention, the boss hurriedly turned around and bowed.
“Are you gentlemen acquaintances of Mr.
Guro?”
“Yes, we’re quite familiar with each other,” Gongsun Ce said with a forced laugh, “We really hit it off.”
His cold joke had an unexpected effect.
“Yeah, hahaha!” The giant ninja burst into a hearty laugh as if a funny bone had been tickled.
The laughter had a domino effect, and Shiyu Ling lightly hammered the table, “Getting ‘fiery’ at ‘The Waterfall’…”
“That joke’s so cold it’s terrible!” Shiyu Ling complained.
“It’s funny to say it, hahaha!”
The atmosphere in the sushi shop became inexplicably warm and agreeable.
The shop owner called out, “How many bowls for the two customers?”
The investigators patted their stomachs and exchanged glances, accompanied by a background sound of Qiluo shouting, “Get me a portion, too!”
“Regular serving, one bowl to eat here, one to go, please!”
·
Fifteen minutes later.
The two, having shared a bowl of donburi, left the shop slowly, filled with a sense of satiation.
It was too much for a late-night snack; this was more like a second dinner…
But it was really delicious, and neither of the investigator duo had any regrets about their actions.
“Lend me some cash.”
“What for?”
Scratching his head, Gongsun Ce feigned nonchalance and said, “I need to buy some booze to say thanks; can’t let someone treat us without returning the favor…”
“Hmm?” Shiyu Ling gave a snort of contempt, “Go ahead, give me your phone.”
…I’m convinced.
As always, that woman was too sharp.
“Thanks…” Gongsun Ce shrank back his neck guiltily.
He bought three cheap bottles of sake from a convenience store at the roadside and headed towards the direction the ninja duo had left.
His insides still felt a bit rickety, but a bit of telekinesis support would take care of that.
Under the dim street lamps, Gongsun Ce caught up with the two ninjas and shouted, holding up the bottles.
“Want a drink?”
Crush turned around, locking eyes with him for a few seconds.
“Yeah…
Can’t really turn down a life-saver’s invitation.”
The burly man twisted his thick lips, revealing an ugly smile.
·
“You’re just 19?
Impressive!
We were nowhere near your level at that age!”
“It’s just that the Sky City environment…
The back alleys of Weiyuan City are tough, right?”
“Yeah, hahaha!
Trash, dirty water, violence, sex – the lousy parts are the same everywhere!
You can tell who comes from such places just by one look!”
Sitting on a bench under a dim street light, three Silent Phase Mages were holding cheap bottles of sake, speaking in terms no one else could understand.
“There are times when you don’t want power and just wish to live peacefully, and times when you’re intoxicated by it, wanting to vent recklessly…” Gongsun Ce took a swig of alcohol, “Trying to find some balance, trying to make the heart…”
“Desensitized.”
“Yeah, that’s just the feeling.”
“Too sensitive, and you’ll be swallowed whole.” Crush clenched his fist, “So you have to dull yourself on purpose, find something else to lean on.”
“I rely on friendship and gratitude.”
“Yeah, I rely on affection and righteousness.” Crush broke off the bottle top and downed the rest of the drink in one gulp, “But it’s all just excuses to fool ourselves!
What we really want to do is to destroy everything.”
“It doesn’t matter if you don’t really do it.
Negative emotions or the urge to destroy are normal; everyone has them.
The only difference is the extent…
If regular people can control it, so can we; who isn’t living a life of self-deception?” Gongsun Ce said carelessly, “By the way, I know this might be overstepping, but I’d like to ask for your advice on the Spirit Light initiation technique.
It’s okay if it’s not convenient.”
This time Crush didn’t speak up, but Shiyu Ling beat him to it.
“Hey, hey!
Don’t be so rash, kid.
That move of the boss is dangerous!”
“This kid is smarter than you, An Yuan,” Crush replied in his usual way, “Quiet down.
He’s thought this through and is asking with understanding.”
It’s great to be understood.
Sitting and talking like this, he really felt that he and these two were of the same kind.
