Chapter 66: Evil Coin

Gasp!

Dawn sucked in a sharp breath, his fingers tightening around the coin. He had expected something grand, maybe a divine voice whispering secrets or a surge of enlightenment. Instead, he got... a simple yes-or-no mechanic. For a mythical artifact, it felt oddly mundane.

The treasure Hidden Coin of Fate calculated the probability of some event happening and gave the answer based on that.

Feeling a slightly cold sensation in his hand, Dawn examined the coin closely.

The coin had the unassuming shape of a penny from his past life, but that was where the similarities ended. Its surface was not metal, not stone, but something in between—cold, yet strangely alive. When he tilted it, the skull carving on one side seemed to flicker, its venomous flames twisting as if feeding on an unseen force.

While on the other side was the figure of a woman holding a bowl, smiling charmingly.

For a fleeting second, the woman’s smile widened—just a fraction. Dawn’s breath hitched. Had it moved? He blinked hard, forcing himself to focus. The engraving remained unchanged, yet the sensation of being watched lingered, like unseen eyes tracing his every breath.

However, when he narrowed his eyes to focus, the feeling vanished as if it didn’t exist in the first place.

Ignoring that.

Dawn was excited; he wanted to try the coin and see how it functioned.

"What to ask...?"

In his mind, there were numerous questions that he wanted to ask.

After thinking for a moment, he decided to ask the most pressing question.

As the coin would answer only in yes or no, he asked straightforwardly.

"The Great Executioner Mia is aware of my identity as Abyss mark holder."

Dawn muttered with narrowed eyes. As soon as his words finished, the coin in his hand let out a ferocious light and the temperature in the room plummeted dangerously, almost freezing his hand to death.

His hand holding the coin seemed to freeze in mid-air.

’This is it?’

Just as he was thinking, the coin suddenly let out a hum similar to a beast awakening from a long slumber.

[Cost of the question: 2 stats points.]

[Choose from which stat points you would like to sacrifice.]

Looking at the prompt, Dawn’s breathing stagnated, and he swallowed his saliva in a loud gulp.

"I will have to pay 2 stats points for such a simple question."

"Isn’t it too expensive?"

Dawn stared at the glowing prompt, then at the coin, then back at the prompt. His eye twitched.

"Two stat points? For one question?" He resisted the urge to hurl the coin across the room. This wasn’t a treasure—it was a damn scam!

The coin was too scummy and evil; there was no way in hell he was going to sacrifice his stat points for this.

In the end, Dawn was finally able to resist the urge and didn’t throw the coin away.

He took a deep breath to calm down his emotions.

"Let’s try something simple first."

"Was I watching my elder siblings spar a few minutes ago or not?"

[Cost of the question: 0.001 stats points.]

[Choose from which stat points you would like to sacrifice.]

The small smile on Dawn’s face immediately stiffened.

"It was still too expensive."

For Dawn, the stats points were incredibly precious; to ask him to part with a few stat points was the same as asking a mother to abandon her child.

"Fine!"

With an incredibly pained expression, he reluctantly agreed to sacrifice 0.001 stat points.

"Deduct the points from Physique."

Just as he finished saying those words, Dawn felt a subtle feeling of lightness covering his body.

Slowly, the coin escaped from his grasp and started to float mid-air.

Dawn wasn’t thinking about anything else; his whole focus was on the coin.

Under his gaze, the coin started to spin, faster and faster... to the point it became a blur.

The air howled as it was forcefully pressed by the coin.

Wring!

The spinning coin slowed, hovering mid-air like a celestial decree waiting to be delivered. The air crackled. Then—THUD. It stopped. A single rune flared on the woman’s bowl, glowing with an eerie brilliance. The pressure in the room crushed down on him, like unseen hands gripping his shoulders.

"Yes."

Dawn, however, completely ignored the pain; his eyes were on the coin floating in mid-air.

The coin had answered correctly.

Even though the atmosphere felt grand and majestic, Dawn didn’t look impressed.

But at least it was enough for him to believe in the coin’s abilities.

Dawn grabbed the coin floating in mid-air and tossed it a couple of times to get the feel.

Wring! Wring!

Hidden Coin of Fate moved from one hand to another while creating a soul-stirring sound, like a roaring dragon descending down a mountain.

Dawn’s blue eyes flashed with intense light, and the coin halted.

Although the coin was okay, it wasn’t of any help to him now.

The threats posed by both the Great Executioner Mia and Legion of double-headed lightning wasn’t something that he could directly face.

At least for him, the threats were out in the open, so he could prepare.

The only way in which he can be reassured of his safety was to get stronger fast, so strong that people have to think twice if not thrice before crossing paths with him.

If even then someone was stupid enough to offend him, he would make sure that they don’t see the light of day.

A wide grin had unconsciously appeared on his face.

Anyway, it was time to head to the battlefield.

He still needed to deal with the Flowing Swamp Organisation.

Dawn’s eyes were tightly closed; before he realized, his perception shifted, and Dawn found himself once again in the poisonous skies of Flowing Swamp station.

A wave of sickly-sweet rot hit him the moment he arrived. The air itself was toxic, thick with the scent of decaying flesh and damp earth. Even though Suite Righteousness shielded him, the sheer stench threatened to seep into his lungs.

Without him needing to do anything, Suite Righteousness and Eternal Valor had already covered his body, forcefully resisting the poisonous winds with all their might.
