Chapter 53: Changes in the Abyss mark

Seeing that her young master wasn’t responding, Fiona fell silent.

Her gaze, calm and undisturbed, remained on Dawn’s figure the entire time. Even after years, she faithfully carried out the role handed to her by Dawn’s father, Theodore Skylar.

"..."

An uncomfortable silence suddenly seemed to have enveloped them. However, before the situation could turn even more awkward, Dawn retracted his gaze and looked at Fiona. His indifferent expression immediately cracked, and a small smile appeared on his face.

"Big sis Fiona, is there any news about my brother? When is he going to arrive?"

He was genuinely curious about his new brother. Some days ago, his mother Athena had told him his elder brother Lucas was returning home after completing his studies.

Not just Lucas, even his elder sister Elizabeth, who was far away in some distant corner of the world, was rushing back home.

"So all three siblings are finally going to meet."

Dawn looked forward to meeting his siblings, but he didn’t have much hope in his heart. Given how his father’s personality was, the same traits should have been passed on to the children.

He was well aware of how parents’ behavior plays an important role in shaping a kid’s personality.

While he silently mused, Fiona patiently waited and didn’t immediately answer.

Once Dawn came out of his musing, Fiona lightly said, "Young master Lucas should arrive in two days at the earliest, while young miss Elizabeth should arrive by tomorrow morning."

Hearing her words, Dawn immediately felt satisfaction and internally felt relieved.

"It appears I still have some time left."

Once his siblings arrived, he wouldn’t be able to stay in the Eternal battlefield for a long period due to obvious reasons.

Not intending to waste any more time, he immediately went back to his original position and closed his eyes, pretending to meditate while his soul had already left his body, heading to the Eternal battlefield.

Fiona’s gaze lingered on Dawn, a flicker of admiration surfacing in her usually composed expression. The young master was just three years old, yet he worked harder than warriors ten times his age.

Most children born into privilege indulged in their comfort, but not him. He pushed himself relentlessly—as if he were racing against something unseen.

Fiona clenched her fists. The warmth in her eyes shifted into something sharper.

"No, I can’t fall behind."

She had been assigned to protect Dawn, but if she didn’t keep improving, one day... she might not be strong enough to do so.

No matter how monstrous his talent was, she would never let him surpass her so easily.

...

Situated to the north of Mesarith City, Calm Northern mountain was a small mountain range. This single mountain was the only source of greenery in this barren mining city.

Some learned men of the past had labeled the mountain range as the lungs of Mesarith city. If it wasn’t for this mountain range, the city would have long become unlivable due to constant mining dust.

Deep in the mountain range, a small lightning wolf stealthily moved towards its prey, a large multi-horned deer. Its ash-grey eyes were filled with an inexplicable hint of madness.

Its body seemed to be covered with numerous large veins that coiled around it. The whole body seemed to have inflated like a balloon that could burst any moment.

The wolf huffed and puffed as it moved forward. Even in such a state, the wolf’s steps were calm and composed, not making any noise.

Suddenly, its large body stopped in an attempt to launch a decisive attack.

The wolf didn’t seem to notice, but thick smoke was coming out of all its external orifices.

A faint crackling sound echoed in the air—like strained leather pulled too tight.

The wolf staggered, its veins bulging grotesquely beneath its fur, its breath ragged and wet. Smoke curled from its eyes, its ears, its mouth—

Then it swelled, its skin stretching---and burst.

Chunks of blackened flesh splattered across the trees, steaming upon impact. The very soil where the blood touched withered and rotted within seconds.

The air grew thick, dense with something unnatural. The shredded remains of the wolf began to twitch, jerking and convulsing, as if something inside them refused to die.

Then—slowly, unnaturally—the scattered pieces crawled back together.

A pulse of darkness rippled outward as the remains merged, forming something new.

A gaping portal, its edges shifting like writhing flesh, exhaled a breath colder than death itself. The portal radiated a chilly atmosphere, freezing the surrounding air.

A ghostly voice, low but cold, reverberated in the surroundings.

"I finally made it. Now it is time to find the abyssal seed..... The seed belongs only to me."

"Legion of Two-headed Lightning Demon, come out."

As soon as these words came out, the portal suddenly stretched like a piece of flesh, and numerous ferocious wolves wrapped in lightning started to pour out in large numbers.

Howl!

The Calm Northern mountain fell into complete silence, with only the wolves’ howls reverberating in the surroundings.

.....

Back in the Skylar family mansion.

Dawn’s eyes abruptly snapped open; the abyssal mark on his hand seemed to have turned scorchingly hot, and even smoke seemed to be coming out of it.

Looking at this scene, Dawn’s expression immediately turned ugly, as if he had swallowed a fly.

He looked around his surroundings with a hint of vigilance and immediately sighed in relief after noticing there was no one in the room other than him.

"What the hell is going on?"

He muttered while looking at the Abyss mark tattoo. Just as he was panicking, Dawn felt a cool sensation emerging from his heart, calming his nerves.

Just at this moment, the Abyssal mark pulsed, and a strong feeling was transmitted to his head.

Dawn’s breath stagnated.

The Abyssal Mark burned—not with heat, but with something deeper, something primal. A clawing, frigid terror gripped his chest, spreading through his veins like ice.

It wasn’t his own fear.

It was the mark’s.

For the first time since its existence, the Abyssal Mark—an entity bound to his very being—was afraid.

And if it was afraid... then something far worse than he imagined was coming.

It appeared trouble finally came knocking on his door, however thankfully, he was alerted beforehand.

From the feeling transmitted by the Abyssal mark, the threat was still far away.

Understanding the situation, Dawn sighed.

Dawn clenched his fist. He didn’t know if his strength was enough to face this.

The answer was clear—he needed more power.

There was no hesitation. No second-guessing.

With a slow exhale, he closed his eyes. The pull of the Eternal Battlefield seized him immediately, dragging his consciousness into the realm where the strong thrived and the weak were crushed.

He had to think the trouble wasn’t coming—it was already here. Only than could he ensure his survival.
