Chapter 46: Point of No return

Flying Sword Empire.

Flying Sword Royal Academy.

The most prestigious academy of the Flying Sword Empire was beautifully decorated today, with large flags bearing the logos of the academy tearing through the sky, fluttering in the air.

Members of the Imperial band, dressed in fancy clothes, solemnly marched through the large training ground of the academy.

Their movements were completely synchronized; each of their movements, filled with heavenly intent, made the blood of onlookers boil in excitement.

If someone ignorant were to witness this scene, they might think the people of the academy were celebrating some cultural festival, but in reality, it was just a regular passing out ceremony.

The scions of Noble families, sons and daughters of influential powerhouses of the empire, as well as some extremely talented commoners who had managed to complete their studies—today, all of them would awaken and head to the Eternal battlefield to fight Abyss creatures.

Today was a very important day for all the young men and women.

The parents who had come to watch their kids had gazes filled with solemnity. Some of them nervously looked in their kids’ direction, worried whether their son or daughter would manage to Awaken a class or not.

Whether the human station they would be sent to would be safer or not?

After the ceremony concluded, the headmaster of the Flying Sword Royal Academy, an extremely young-looking woman, walked to the stage.

With her appearance, the world seemed to have slowed down. In reality, it was not the world which was slowing down but their minds which had become slightly muddled.

Her beautiful and charming eyes, filled with youthful vitality, flashed with appreciation as she surveyed the younger generation of the empire.

"I will only say one thing: do anything that you want and win glory for the academy."

Her voice, although low, resounded like a bolt of thunder on a clear day. Following her words, loud cheers erupted in the surroundings, drowning her voice.

"Glory to the Academy!"

"Glory to the Empire!"

The headmaster didn’t care and even looked slightly happy, given how her lips had curled upwards.

She seemed like a calm, chill person who was easy to get along with.

...

The grand halls of the academy were now eerily silent, save for the hushed whispers of students and the occasional rustle of fabric as they lay down on their assigned beds.

A few murmurs of prayer could be heard. Some students gripped their sheets tightly, their knuckles white. Others exhaled deeply, accepting their fate.

This was it. Their last moment in the academy, their last moment of peace.

The ceremony had just completed, and it was time to go to the battlefield.

"The mark is also gone."

A boy with blonde hair said as he watched the flying sword mark disappear from the back of his palm.

It was something that the boy had already expected; after all, he was already eighteen years old. It was with the help of the academy that he was able to resist the pull. Now his studies were complete and the mark disappeared.

He could no longer resist the pull.

With the disappearance of the mark, the pull of Abyss came stronger than ever, as if some evil god was directly trying to suck his soul.

Just as the man was about to lay on the bed provided by the academy, a girl with flowing blue hair suddenly raised her head from the side and asked, "Kane, why didn’t Lucas join the ceremony?"

It wasn’t just this girl who had this question in her head; most of the students of their class had the same question. Lucas, a top student of their class, had suddenly disappeared.

Kane glanced at the woman some distance away from him and said, "Don’t worry about him. Lucas was called by his family for some urgent matters."

"He should have already reached the Mesarith city by now."

While saying these words, Kane showed a slight smile. Who would have thought two individuals who were like fire and water four years ago would become so close?

Kane could tell Lily’s feelings for Lucas were very strong.

Not really bothered, Kane had already closed his eyes and fallen into deep sleep.

Lily, on the other hand, was surprised by Kane’s response and felt slightly dazed. She bit the corner of her lips and said, "Why didn’t he inform me before leaving?"

Her large swan-like eyes quivered with mysterious emotions.

...

Kane felt his perception shift, and suddenly he felt a strong heaviness envelop his chest as if all the blood present in his body wanted to rush downward and pour out of his legs like a waterfall.

In the next moment, the feeling quickly disappeared as fast as it came.

When he opened his eyes again, Kane found himself in a completely different environment; he seemed to be standing on a slightly raised stone platform.

Before he thought about anything further, he heard the sound of a loud discussion.

"Tch! Another batch is here."

"Just how unlucky one could be to start from this godforsaken station."

A gust of wind filled with a high level of humidity caused him to frown.

Around him were dozens of people dressed in different attire looking in his direction with assessing gazes, as if trying to find out his worth.

"Recruiters..." Kane muttered with a sour face; he had no good opinion of these people.

In the next moment, he shook his head. ’I need to find out what class I awakened.’

With that thought in mind, he muttered "Status."

The air crackled. A tingling sensation spread through Kane’s body, like invisible threads stitching his very essence into something... more grandiose.

Then, the world around him flickered—reality bending for an instant.

A brilliant blue light flared before his eyes, forming into words that etched themselves into his mind.

As expected of the Empire’s best academy, his stats were twice that of a normal adult.

Kane ignored the stats; his eyes were only on the class section. Although he was confident of his chance to awaken a class, seeing the real thing filled his heart with happiness.

Just as he was about to examine his skills, Kane’s eyes suddenly narrowed into two slits, he felt a very familiar aura in the air.

"Hmmm! Lucas...?"

Just as he turned his head to look in the direction of the familiar feeling, a small figure with a fiery red cape billowing behind him like a streak of fire cutting through the humid air appeared in his vision,
