Chapter 43: Something Unsettling

Humans generally tend to have weak soul strength. Nether Wraiths, who were inherently strong in soul aspect, could easily crush warriors of the same rank directly without any fanfare.

If a soul strength of a Nether Wraith was like a surging flame, then a human’s was nothing more than a dim spark.

The Nether Wraith king was deeply familiar with these things, and that’s why the shock that he felt was the greatest.

A mere Peak Iron grade was able to fight him on equal footing. The Nether Wraith felt burning anger—he, a Peak Gold rank expert, failed to kill puny Iron grade warriors. This was just humiliating. If word were to spread, he would become a laughingstock in the whole community.

Although he had heard Red Caped-Demon had formidable soul strength, to reach this level was impossible!

"There is something wrong with this human; he is definitely a monstrous genius of the human race.

"If I could kill him today and report the matter..."

The Nether Wraith’s eyes flashed with a dangerous glint.

The air crackled loudly like a banshee; darkness around the Nether Wraith king’s figure twisted and contorted wildly.

The atmosphere felt suffocating. The pressure of peak Gold rank was like a mighty wave that struck Dawn’s body like a hammer, each strike more powerful than the last.

Dawn’s heart beat like a war drum, thundering inside his chest. Slowly, all the sound around him faded; the only sound he could hear was "Badum! Badum!"

His face started to turn slightly hot; an unknown emotion seemed to have emerged from his heart.

Dawn didn’t know what this emotion was... but it definitely wasn’t fear.

Unknowingly, a wide grin had appeared across his face, spreading ear to ear. He wanted to laugh like a madman.

"That is it... let go of everything, and blast this bastard to the shadow realm."

His eyes blinked, and the world around him started to fade as if reality itself was ceasing to exist.

The darkness disappeared; the two girls whom he needed to save disappeared.

The worry that he was putting his life in danger disappeared—everything disappeared from Dawn’s mind.

"The Nether Wraith king had to die."

This was the only thing that remained in his mind. Without Dawn realizing it, his aura changed, going from cautious—one who was afraid of the consequences of his actions—to utterly brazen.

Unknown to everyone in the cavern, a purplish aura seemed to have slowly emerged from the void and gradually covered Dawn’s small body.

Even the Nether Wraith couldn’t see this aura, but his battle instinct screamed as if in front of him was not a puny human but death itself.

"No... I will have to react fast."

The Nether Wraith shook his head to get rid of the uncanny feeling, but no matter what he did, he couldn’t get rid of it.

He suddenly gritted his teeth and roared, "Die!"

Following the Nether Wraith king’s guttural roar, the atmosphere, which had already reached a boiling point, suddenly erupted.

The darkness which flowed like liquid suddenly seemed to have solidified, turning into a meat grinder that wanted to turn the air itself into shreds.

Dawn’s Suit of Righteousness and Eternal Valor, which could resist the attacks of Peak Silver rank, shook, and numerous tears appeared all over Dawn’s body.

Although Dawn felt as if the weight of the entire world had fallen upon his body, his gaze didn’t change; it was still cold and emotionless.

At this point, he wasn’t afraid of anything.

Jasmine and Mira, who were watching everything from the sidelines, felt their bodies crushed under tremendous pressure.

"Cough!"

Mira directly coughed up blood. Jasmine’s state was no different; blood kept leaking from the corner of her mouth, but she didn’t seem to care.

Her silvery white eyes were on the tiny man facing the Nether Wraith without blinking.

There was nothing in those blue eyes—no fear, no happiness—only strange emotions that sent chills running down her spine.

Just at this moment, those blue eyes suddenly glowed with bright red light.

In the next moment, the whole cavern was filled with the color of crimson; however, if you looked closely, there seemed to be a sliver of purple mixed in as well.

"..."

This time there was no explosion. The Nether Wraith king looked at the scene in front of him with wide eyes.

The soul-burning pain that he was expecting didn’t arrive. Moments passed, and the Nether Wraith king felt nothing, not even a slight itch.

"Hahahaha... Indeed, I was overthinking for nothing. How could an ant make me—"

The Nether Wraith King smirked—then frowned. A strange sensation spread across his form, slow at first, like ink seeping into fabric.

He looked down. His fingers were gone. No, not severed—missing.

His smirk wavered as the purple light crawled over him, erasing his body piece by piece, as if the universe itself had decided he was a mistake to be corrected.

His mouth opened, but no sound came out.

In the next moment, he was gone.

The poor fellow didn’t even realize how he died.

Dawn blinked. The world returned to him in pieces—the cavern, the blood, the silence.

The Nether Wraith King was gone. No corpse. No trace. Just... gone.

His heart should have been racing, but it wasn’t. Instead, a strange numbness filled him, like he had just woken from a dream that still clung to his skin.

He exhaled, a slow, shaky breath. "...That was new."

He understood what happened: the 3% chance to kill enemies in one hit had activated, directly wiping the Nether Wraith king from existence.

Mira also watched this scene with a look of horror in her eyes.

Just a moment ago, she felt a strong presence that almost drove her mad, as if an evil god was directly staring at her soul.

The feeling quickly vanished as fast as it came.

In the next moment, her eyes seemed to have rolled in her head, and she fainted.

However, just as Mira was about to fall to the ground, Jasmine quickly came forward and grabbed her.

Jasmine tightened her grip on Mira’s unconscious form. Her silvery eyes never left Dawn.

There was something in his expression, something distant—like he wasn’t fully here.

This was the man she had tried to control in the past, the one who had stood against a Peak Gold-rank enemy and survived... suddenly a chill filled her heart.

Dawn didn’t care about the two ladies’ shock; he gazed at the disappearing darkness with a blank look.

"The Nether Wraith king’s mana didn’t return to the environment!"

Under Dawn’s gaze, the poor guy just disappeared; there was no phenomenon of mana returning to the surroundings.

Thinking about it for a moment, Dawn shook his head.

"Forget it." His gaze moved to the lone crystal lying on the ground.

A Gold rank stat crystal!! He had more important things to care now.
