Chapter 661: Chapter 661 Grandfather’s Memorable Scene_1

"Oh? You actually have friends from the Demon Clan?" Green Fox tilted his head back for a sip of wine, expressing slight surprise.

"Yes, I’ve signed a soul contract with them. Unfortunately, they’ve set off on their own journey of growth and I have no idea when we’ll meet again."

Su Chengyu felt a pang of longing for Bai Qiu and Ao Tian. Bai Qiu, in his Little White Cat form, was adorably gawky. Ao Tian, though tactless, loquacious, and fond of showing off, was truly loyal to his friends.

"If they willingly signed a soul contract with you, without coercion, it means that they regard you as a significant figure in their lives, ready to face life and death alongside you."

Green Fox continued his conversation as he sipped his wine, "Do you know why the officials of Xia Country ruthlessly exterminate the Demon Clan?"

Su Chengyu responded lightly, "The official reason of the government is that the Demon Clan is a source of chaos and evil. But this law of killing the demons is not exclusive to Xia Country. Since ancient times, it’s been said that humans and demons walk distinct paths, and those who do not belong to our clan must have divergent motives. However, I’m more inclined to believe that this strategy is driven by self-interest. Presently, the Human Clan reigns supreme while the Demon Clan, with their immense power, poses a threat to human rule, leading to wars. Xia Country was involved in the Great War a century ago, a bloody lesson indeed."

Green Fox set down his wine jar, "Well said, all strife in the world is driven by self-interest. The Human Clan and Demon Clan are destined to find it difficult to peacefully coexist. However, Xia Country’s measures against the Demon Clan have been the harshest throughout history, turning the two clans into mortal enemies. This involves a major secret."

Su Chengyu, having dealt with Bai Qiu and Ao Tian, was relatively more knowledgeable about the Demon Clan.

Though there have always been conflicts between humans and demons, it is normal to a certain extent, because even within the Human Clan, and even between countries, battles ensue. It wasn’t like the Human Clan and Demon Clan were always antagonistic. There used to be instances of intermarriages and love stories between the two as well.

The "Talented Young Man and Fox Demon" and "Female Ghost Scholar" stories in the books were not entirely fictional.

After the founding of Xia Country, their crackdown on the Demon Clan became unprecedentedly severe. They were ruthless, obliging a policy of exterminating demons at first sight. The cause behind their methods was something even Su Chengyu was unsure of. Bai Qiu and Ao Tian were also perplexed about why after several hundred years, the Human and Demon Clans were so hostile, striving to wipe each other out completely.

"Please enlighten me," respectfully asked Su Chengyu.

Since my grandfather was the first-generation Envoy of the Demon Slayer Department, he must be connected to this secret. Su Chengyu was subtly attempting to glean some clues from Green Fox.

Green Fox stroked his beard, "These matters are of no consequence to you. Even what I know isn’t entirely accurate."

Upon Green Fox’s refusal to divulge, Su Chengyu felt disappointed, secretly blaming Green Fox: If you weren’t going to share, why raise the topic at all?

"After all, the Dragon Slayer Sword once severed one of your tails. You must be acquainted with its previous owner, right?"

Su Chengyu decided to be more direct and not dance around the topic with Green Fox anymore.

"Of course! The most outstanding figure from the ancient Su family in nearly five hundred years, known world-over, the epitome of magnificence, who wouldn’t know him? Back then at Mount Taihua, he shattered the void with a single sword. He could have ascended to the Immortal World, but he chose to sever the Fairy Bridge with another sword, staying behind in the mortal world, considered invincible amongst mankind."

When Green Fox mentioned the owner of the Dragon Slayer Sword, a profound respect emerged that he didn’t even attempt to veil.

Su Chengyu’s heart fluttered with waves of emotion. He knew his grandfather was a Land Immortal, but he didn’t think Green Fox would hold him in such high regard. His grandfather was the strongest figure in the Su Clan in the past five hundred years.

He was also unaware that his grandfather had the ability to shatter the void and ascend to the Immortal World, but for some reason, he had chosen not to ascend. According to Su Chengyu’s knowledge, no one had ascended for several years. The Immortal World was the highest realm for every cultivator.

No one who practices cultivation doesn’t dream of ascending to the Immortal World to pursue higher levels and power. But why did Grandfather, who had shattered the void, sever the Fairy Bridge too? Su Chengyu found it hard to imagine, as numerous doubts began to plague him.

If these words came from the mouth of a demon, they could not be false.

"Was he really that remarkable?" Su Chengyu feigned a skeptical expression.

Green Fox snorted coldly, "I’ve met many influential figures among the Human Clan. But only two and a half people have truly earned my admiration in this world. The owner of the Dragon Slayer Sword tops the list, and is the one I respect most. As the one who has obtained the Dragon Slayer Sword, don’t you know anything about him?"

Su Chengyu shook his head, "I really do not know. The Dragon Slayer Sword was gifted to me. The one who gifted it merely mentioned that the sword once lorded over the world, but over time it gathered dust and lost its past might. He, however, did not speak much of the sword’s owner."

Su Chengyu felt that the conversation was flourishing, and Green Fox appeared to know a great deal about his grandfather’s affairs. This delighted Su Chengyu internally, but also caused him to hesitate whether he should reveal his identity to Green Fox. Perhaps then Green Fox would speak more straightforwardly, saving him the trouble of beating around the bush.

However, it was a risky move, so Su Chengyu decided to probe a bit further.

"Senior, would you be willing to tell me about the exploits of the Master of the Dragon Slayer Sword?" asked Su Chengyu earnestly.

"I can," Green Fox nodded affirmatively.

Su Chengyu was overjoyed and excited. He knew very little about his grandfather’s accomplishments. Now he had the opportunity to learn more from Green Fox, and it was exhilarating. Su Chengyu listened attentively, afraid to miss even the tiniest bit of information.

After waiting for a while, Green Fox did not speak. Growing anxious, Su Chengyu could not help but ask, "Senior, aren’t you going to tell the story?"

"Are you in a hurry? I can certainly tell you about the achievements of the Dragon Slayer Sword’s master, but should you not disclose your relationship with him? Despite its current worn-out state, it is still the Dragon Slayer Sword after all. The person who received it will not casually gift it to an irrelevant individual. Young man, don’t think I don’t see what you’re doing. The way you’re carrying on, you’re just trying to get information about the Master of the Dragon Slayer Sword, aren’t you?"

True to his reputation, Green Fox was a shrewd old fox. He saw through Su Chengyu’s intentions, revealing them with a smile.

Internally cursing Green Fox as a cunning old fox, Su Chengyu conceded that deceiving him was no easy task. He then fell silent. After a moment’s consideration of his choice of words, he said, "My surname is Su and my name is Su Chengyu."

Green Fox stroked his beard, "Your surname is Su... Just as I suspected, you’re from the Su Clan. Since you’re from the Su Clan, you should know more about him than me, why ask me?"

"I’m not from the Su Clan. I’ve never set foot in the Su Clan. I was born in Lin Jiang and I have never met my parents. I was raised solely by my grandfather."

Given the circumstances, Su Chengyu saw no reason to hide the truth. He hoped that his honesty could help him learn more about his grandfather from Green Fox.

"Your grandfather, would be Su Linyuan," Green Fox stated assertively.
