Chapter 1635 - 1636: Sword Intent
Chapter 1635: Chapter 1636: Sword Intent
"Do you really need me to introduce myself? If I tell you my identity and origins, will you willingly slit your own throat in front of me?"
Su Chengyu stood alone before his opponent, silently coordinating with Bai Qiu, who waited in the shadows for the perfect moment to strike.
Yet, even as Su Chengyu’s actions unsettled the opponent’s mind state, Bai Qiu still found no opportunity to launch a surprise attack.
"You sharp-tongued rascal! After I deal with this Quanzhen Sect Daoist, I’ll show you what it means to know your place!"
The Luo Clan Hollow Vacuum spoke and unleashed yet another water dragon, attempting to pierce through the sword array to strike Su Chengyu. However, Wan Qiu, stationed at the center, merely sneered, and the Neck-Kissing Sword Shadow formed a dense wall between heaven and earth, swallowing the water dragon completely.
Wan Qiu’s expression was not particularly good, but he lifted his head with a light laugh and said, "Save such talk for after you’ve managed to defeat me."
"Courting death!"
The Luo Clan Hollow Vacuum was enraged. Fully aware that unless he dealt with this troublesome opponent first, he wouldn’t be able to accomplish anything, he consolidated his focus, devoting all his attention to Wan Qiu.
Su Chengyu watched with unease as the scene unfolded.
Although he had just arrived, he could clearly see that Wan Qiu Daoist was in a highly disadvantageous state.
The sword array had indeed trapped the opponent, but it was also a self-imposed cage for Wan Qiu, rendering him unable to escape.
Even worse, Wan Qiu’s aura was noticeably weak. Though Su Chengyu trusted in the ability of Wan Qiu’s sword array to neutralize the threat completely, could Wan Qiu himself hold out long enough?
"Little White?"
Growing increasingly anxious, Su Chengyu sent a telepathic message to Bai Qiu.
"There’s no way. This sword array is an impenetrable fortress brimming with killing intent. Finding a way to intervene without taking damage myself is already extraordinarily difficult, let alone targeting either of them directly."
Bai Qiu’s response left Su Chengyu feeling even more cornered. As Su Chengyu struggled with indecision, Wan Qiu Daoist’s voice suddenly echoed in his mind.
"Leave now. I know you wish to help me, but with your current strength, what can you possibly achieve?"
"Elder, you..."
Su Chengyu was stunned, not expecting Wan Qiu Daoist to have enough energy left to initiate telepathic communication while controlling the sword array.
"Don’t misunderstand. I have no intention of dying here for your sake. I intend to uphold the agreement between us, first for the Supreme Daoist Scripture, and second for that disciple of yours."
"Yan’er?"
Though Bai Huang was a figure of importance, his matters remained confined to those concerning the Qingqiu Fox Clan. Su Chengyu couldn’t fathom any connection with Wan Qiu Daoist.
Wan Qiu Daoist’s words led Su Chengyu to the only possible link—Yu Yanshu, who remained an enigma wrapped in mystery.
"She’s a rare talent, perhaps the only one under the heavens who could truly master my Sword Dao and Sword Intent. Unfortunately, I cannot be her mentor. The things you’ve taught her, I cannot teach."
"Huh?"
Su Chengyu’s mind momentarily froze, completely unable to decipher the meaning behind Wan Qiu Daoist’s words.
Deep down, Su Chengyu always felt he owed Yu Yanshu the most. Despite being her teacher, what he had imparted to her was pitifully little.
"Elder, I don’t understand your meaning,"
Su Chengyu replied earnestly, not only because the speaker was Wan Qiu Daoist—an elder merely half a step away from becoming an Earth Immortal,
but more importantly, because the matter at hand involved Yu Yanshu.
"I teach swordsmanship, not humanity. That young girl lacks nothing when it comes to Ascending Dao techniques, but among all under heaven, the only one who can teach her how to be a person, is you."
Upon hearing this, understanding dawned on Su Chengyu. An isolated swordsman like Wan Qiu Daoist teaching only swordsmanship seemed entirely reasonable.
But why would Su Chengyu alone have the qualifications to teach Yu Yan’er about life? Su Chengyu still couldn’t quite grasp the reasoning.
"Are you made of wood?"
Su Chengyu blinked, unable to respond.
"I don’t have time to waste words with you. Let’s get straight to the point. I’ll hold this fellow here by myself; you two need to leave immediately. If something happens to me... take this Kiss Neck Sword Spirit and pass it on to that girl."
Suddenly, a golden light flew out from the sword array, landing directly in Su Chengyu’s Sea of Consciousness.
Before Su Chengyu could react, the Heaven-Mending Stone within his Sea of Consciousness detected the movement and immediately spoke.
"Extraordinary potential for immortality."
Su Chengyu was stunned. The Heaven-Mending Stone had once given a similar assessment for the Soul of the Dragon Slayer Sword.
At that time, the Heaven-Mending Stone explained that as the Dragon Slayer Sword continued to evolve, it had the potential to become a true Immortal Artifact.
Swords and Magic Artifacts alike required their Artifact Spirit to be of the highest caliber in order to ascend to Immortal status. While their physical vessel could be changed, a weak Artifact Spirit meant that, regardless of the materials used, the item would not surpass the level of a Holy Artifact.
According to the Heaven-Mending Stone, a "Holy Artifact" was merely a failed attempt at creating an Immortal Artifact.
"Elder, I..."
"I’m talking about ’if.’ Don’t misunderstand—I don’t share your master’s righteousness, going to certain death without hesitation. But I do want my Sword Dao and Sword Intent to be passed on if I fall here."
Su Chengyu swallowed hard, realizing the value of the Sword Spirit now embedded within his Sea of Consciousness.
It contained Wan Qiu’s lifetime of Sword Dao and True Intent. Even if others couldn’t comprehend its essence as Yu Yan’er might, it would undoubtedly simplify the path to Nascent Soul compared to ordinary cultivators.
Watching Wan Qiu continue to wield the sword array with undiminished power despite losing the Kiss Neck Sword Spirit, Su Chengyu took a deep breath.
"Since Elder holds Yan’er in such regard, this junior will no longer hesitate. Once I..."
"Enough with your dithering! This is what I can’t stand about you! Begone!"
For the first time, Wan Qiu True Master spoke aloud. With a single wave of his hand, countless Sword Qi surged toward Su Chengyu.
These Sword Qi were not meant to harm him. Instead, they supported and propelled Su Chengyu, sending him toward the entrance of Qingqiu Mausoleum.
Su Chengyu did not resist, allowing the Sword Qi to carry him deeper into Qingqiu Mausoleum. He turned toward Wan Qiu True Master, his gaze filled with respect.
"Kid, don’t say I didn’t warn you. Inside, dealing with the Luo Clan Martial God is one thing, but watch out for those other interlopers who’ve sneaked in amidst the chaos."
"Understood, Elder."
Su Chengyu respectfully bowed toward Wan Qiu as he spoke.
Though Wan Qiu True Master declared he hadn’t intended to die here, Su Chengyu knew this elder had already made peace with the worst possible outcome.
Having missed Cang Qing True Master’s final moments, Su Chengyu couldn’t help but associate Wan Qiu Daoist with the figure of Cang Qing True Master.
They were worlds apart, yet both commanded awe and reverence.
"Bai Qiu!"
With a loud shout, Bai Qiu, realizing there was nothing more they could do, turned and followed Su Chengyu deeper into Qingqiu Mausoleum.
The previously crowded graveyard fell silent in an instant, leaving only Wan Qiu and the Luo Clan Hollow Vacuum.
Watching helplessly as Su Chengyu vanished into the depths of Qingqiu Mausoleum, the Luo Clan Hollow Vacuum’s eyes burned with killing intent as he fixed his gaze on Wan Qiu Daoist.
"Old goat, looks like you’re ready to die, huh?"
"Die?"
Wan Qiu sneered, and the sword array, which had been on the defensive, transformed completely.
The killing intent saturating the sword array was now suffocating in its intensity. Wan Qiu rose with his sword, speaking coldly.
"Who dies first remains to be seen."
