Chapter 603 - 603 589

Chapter 603: 589 Chapter 603: 589 “I would be very upset if I had to kill Lin Wei and his son, and got you involved in the process,” Ye Chen said.

Wan Danrong looked at Ye Chen and said, “I’ll be careful.”

“Revenge, if not this time, can still be sought next time. But a person’s life only has one chance, and once it’s gone, it can’t be relived.” Ye Chen, having seen too much life and death, understood this principle deeply.

Night fell, and Ye Chen, along with Wan Guangcai and Zhong Yao, were already in an inn opposite the Hongyun Building.

Wan Danrong led her team to the planned ambush site.

The Hongyun Building was indeed the busiest restaurant in Wanshou City. It was as crowded as a vegetable market, with red lanterns hanging on the streets, even more lively than during the day.

There were all sorts of people coming and going.

Some families had already arrived, entering the Hongyun Building one after another.

Suddenly, a large group of people appeared and alarmed both sides of the street.

Zhong Yao said, “It’s Lin Wei and his son, Lin Yongwen.”

Wan Guangcai smiled slightly and said, “It’s good that they’re here, as long as they’re here.”

Indeed, Lin Wei’s appearance immediately sparked cheers from both sides of the street, with people congratulating him.

“Let’s see if he survives long enough to enjoy it,” Zhong Yao said.

The damned Lin Wei brought quite a few people with him indeed.

Wan Guangcai said, “Ye Chen, can we handle it?”

“Don’t worry.” Ye Chen carefully surveyed the surrounding terrain.

“When the time comes, you tie up a group in the Hongyun Building, and Zhong Yao will lead another group to block people at the main entrance. He’s sure to try and retreat back to his residence,” Wan Guangcai said.

He had already arranged his men inside the Hongyun Building, and also hidden quite a few people at the main entrance.

As they were getting closer, Wan Guangcai said, “If everything is fine, I’ll go meet with Rong’er.”

“Rest assured, we can handle it here.”

Today’s Wanshou City seemed to be prepared for Lin Wei. Although he was not yet the city lord, everyone was already congratulating him in advance, knowing that he had brought Luo Hai in and had close ties with the Third Demon. These people feared the Third Demon and dared not oppose him.

Wan Guangcai turned and left with two others.

Suddenly, only Zhong Yao and Ye Chen were left.

Ye Chen and Zhong Yao both understood that whether or not they could kill Lin Wei and his son depended on how many people they could hold back here.

“At that time, you hold back as many as you can, and I’ll deal with the rest at the main entrance,” Zhong Yao said.

“Alright, everyone be careful.” Before Lin Wei entered the Hongyun Building, Ye Chen quickly went in first. Hidden inside the Hongyun Building were more than twenty death warriors, all carefully selected.

Ye Chen went in to join them, leaving Zhong Yao outside the Hongyun Building.

Lin Wei had never been as glamorous as he was tonight. The whole way was filled with congratulations, and everyone of importance in Wanshou City came to wish him well.

They quickly entered the Hongyun Building, and the people inside cheered.

Lin Yongwen opened the way for his father, saying, “They are all on the second floor.”

All the influential people of Wanshou City’s major families were already waiting for Lin Wei on the second floor.

Lin Wei also acted modestly. He had never been modest before, but this time he was thoroughly so.

It seemed like everyone had forgotten about Wan Guangde.

Once they reached the second floor, there was indeed a group of people guarding Lin Wei and his son.

All of a sudden, several streaks of lightning blasted out, and with a loud bang, aimed at Lin Wei amongst the crowd. Instantly, seven or eight people fell down.

Lin Yongwen could be heard shouting, “There are assassins!”

With startled cries echoing, Ye Chen made a leap, releasing another streak of lightning and killing his way through. A few of Lin Wei’s men drew their swords to intercept him, but a wave of energy sent them flying.

Lin Wei was shocked, he hadn’t expected that someone would dare to attack him in the Hongyun Building tonight.

Ye Chen charged directly at Lin Wei.

Lin Wei roared, “How dare you, someone actually dares to kill me today!” He counterattacked with a palm strike towards Ye Chen.

However, how could his skills match Ye Chen’s? An energy wave sent him spinning out and falling, smashing plates and dishes. If his skills hadn’t absorbed half of the force, that palm strike would surely have taken his life. Truly, a formidable assassin.

With Ye Chen’s action, the disguised people hiding around also drew their swords and charged out, creating chaos. People were running in all directions.

Lin Yongwen shouted in alarm, “What are you people doing? Someone is trying to kill the city lord today. Don’t just stand there, help quickly. Kill this villain!”

Ye Chen retorted, “Today we are avenging the people who died in the Wan Residence. The Lin family father and son, in their eagerness for the position of city lord, secretly killed Lord Wan. Our revenge for the dead is just and fair. Whoever helps them, I will kill.”

Those leading figures had of course heard a lot about Lin Wei secretly harming the Wan Residence.

They had more or less some feelings for the people of the Wan Residence.

Hearing this from the newcomer, they didn’t dare to assist anymore. Furthermore, Lin Wei was not yet the official city lord, the confirmation would only happen tonight. It wasn’t worth risking their lives for Lin Wei, so they all began to scramble away in fear, causing chaos throughout the Hongyun Building.

Ye Chen had taken aim at Lin Wei, releasing Green Dragon, lightning, and Light Waves — all of his attacks, not missing a single one, towards the crowd. If he had the chance, he wanted to take out Lin Wei right there. However, the underlings Lin Wei brought along seemed utterly fearless of death.

Those minor leaders did their best to hide by retreating into rooms.

Lin Wei was surrounded by a substantial number of people.

Ye Chen focused on Lin Wei and attacked those who protected him with blasts of energy.

The Inn was in total chaos, it was hard to tell north from south, east from west.

The people Ye Chen slew were sent flying all over the place.

The spectacle scared Lin Wei out of his wits. He was terrified. Even though he had many subordinates, who could guarantee with absolute certainty his safety? A single moment of negligence in protection could lead to his death. And given the fierce determination of his adversary, who obviously came prepared, it would be best to retreat and deal with them later using a fresh batch of hired hands.

Lin Yongwen exclaimed, “Those damn cowards didn’t help at all! Father, we should leave this place immediately. There’s no need to linger here. As for the remaining foes, we can deal with them slowly in due time.”

Lin Wei agreed, quickly heading downstairs with an escort of his men, while shouting, “Go on, get rid of those pests.” He ordered his underlings to go upstairs, while he himself scampered downstairs.

Ye Chen started a mass slaughter. Joined by his twenty-odd disciples, they clashed with hundreds of the Lin Family’s henchmen, creating total chaos inside the Hongyun Building.

Finally reaching the entrance of the Hongyun Building, Zhong Yao charged out once again, entangling a large group of enemies.

In a fit of fury, Lin Wei barked, “Damn it, when I get back, I’ll bring more people. None of them will escape. They must be tired of living to behave so recklessly. I’ll shorten their lifespan.”

Guiding his father, Lin Yongwen said, “They surely won’t survive this night. Let them have their moment of bravado.”

A small group remained, less than half the number that had arrived, escorting Lin Wei as they continued to distance themselves from the Hongyun Inn.

Lin Wei sneered, “You dream of killing me? With this many people, none of you will escape today.” He had already escaped from the Hongyun Building, where upstairs cries of pain echoed and debris flew haphazardly.

“Don’t worry, as soon as I return, I’ll bring reinforcements.”

Lin Wei still heard the clash of weapons behind him.

Lin Yongwen continued, “It must be those old clutter who helped; only then could the remnants of the Wan Residence infiltrate the city.”

Lin Wei chuckled coldly, “Once I become the city lord, I will deal with these bastards one by one. Those who betray their own side, nostalgic for Wan Guangde’s kindness, huh? When the time comes, I’ll send them to accompany Wan Guangde in death, so he won’t be lonely.” He continued to flee like a defeated stray dog.

As long as he becomes the city lord, he will ruthlessly eliminate those dissenting old folks.

He continually headed towards the Lin Residence, turning into a secluded street.

Here, it suddenly fell silent and the sounds of battle gradually grew distant.

Lin Wei suddenly grew suspicious and asked, “Did you see Wan Guangcai earlier?”

Lin Yongwen, leading the way, remarked, “I don’t think I saw him.”

“Not good, the real location of my assassination should not be the Hongyun Building…”

Before he could finish his sentence, fireballs and all sorts of covert weapons suddenly emerged from both sides.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of poison arrows.

With a dozen men already fallen, multiple fireballs came flying overhead. Boom, Boom, Boom! The explosions sent people in front, including Lin Yongwen who was leading the way, flying out dozens of feet before crashing down hard. His face was barely recognizable when he fell.

With a shocked expression, Lin Wei retreated backward, repeatedly crying out, “My son…” From both sides, men ambushed upstairs and downstairs rushed down and attacked Lin Wei’s group.

Wan Guangcai shouted, “Lin Wei, you dog thief, today you will pay for the lives lost from the Wan Residence.”

“It really is you, you bastard. You’ll pay with your life for my son,” Lin Wei retorted, standing up furiously.

“His death was well-deserved. After all the havoc you’ve wrought, it’s fitting you should die without a son to mourn you,” Wan Guangcai retorted and led his men and Rong’er in a ferocious attack.

At this point, all those hiding on both sides had made their move.

This wave of fireballs and concealed weapons had killed another half of Lin Wei’s men.

There weren’t many men left by Lin Wei’s side.

With a sword in hand, Wan Guangcai, along with Rong’er and a few other subordinates, attacked Lin Wei.

Ye Chen noticed the deafening sounds from afar, realizing that Wan Guangcai and the others had started their assault.

Unbeknownst to him, an hour had already passed. His forces significantly dwindled by now. If they didn’t retreat soon, all of them would be in grave danger. Zhong Yao, who was still engaged in battle, glanced at the billowing smoke from the distant street realizing that it was pointless to continue this indecisive struggle.

Zhong Yao called out, “Ye Chen, we have to retreat.”

Ye Chen glanced at the people by his side. Of the twenty-odd men who came with him, only a few remained. He said, “We need to retreat.”

Gathering two strong surges of energy, he launched attacks to the left and the right, and then released the thick smoke they had prepared. As the surroundings plunged into chaos, Ye Chen led the remaining men to quickly jump out of the second floor window. They immediately ran to regroup with Zhong Yao and his men.

Zhong Yao suggested, “Let’s wait for them at the city gate.”

At this time, there were many who were injured and in need of medical attention.

However, Ye Chen declared, “Zhong Yao, take these men to the city gate. I’ll go check on the others.” He still had lingering concerns about Wan Guangcai and Rong’er.
