Chapter 562 - 562 548 Vice Sect Leader
Chapter 562: Chapter 548: Vice Sect Leader Chapter 562: Chapter 548: Vice Sect Leader Ren Xiongbei and Jiang Ouyang immediately summoned all the leaders of the Immortal City Sect.
Ren Xiongbei spoke courteously, “Nephew, it’s good to see you alive. You scared the wits out of us; we thought you were dead. We were searching for more than a month without any trace of you. Some are still out there looking for you now.”
“Thank you, uncle.” Su Zhanze looked at Ren Xiongbei, the man was clearly pleased–he must have come to enjoy his misfortune.
“No need for thanks; this is our responsibility. No one wished for such a situation, but it happened nonetheless.” Ren Xiongbei continued, “I believe you already know that I have become the new Sect Leader. Out of necessity, the Dragon Slaying Clan could wreak havoc on the Central Plains at any moment and we need a unified command. Everybody agreed, and we all thought you were dead, so a new Sect Leader was chosen.”
Su Zhanze remained silent.
Yuan Jingxing said, “This election shouldn’t count. We should hold a new one.”
Hearing this, Ren Haotian retorted, “What nonsense are you talking about? So you’re saying the previous votes were a child’s game and we can hold new elections at will?”
“But at the time everyone assumed Su Zhanze was dead. That’s why such a decision was made.” Yuan Jingxing said, voicing his disagreement.
“Even if that was the case, what’s happened, happened. If we declare that a decision doesn’t count when it suits us, wouldn’t that mean we can overturn anything we don’t like in the future?” Ren Xiongbei glanced at Jiang Ouyang.
The old men behind them continued to argue among themselves.
However, most were of the opinion that a re-election was unnecessary. Jiang Ouyang also found it difficult to say anything.
Yuan Jingxing stated, “This time, although the Immortal City Sect was defeated by the Demon Domain, it was not our fault. Whoever went to Dragon Slayer Island would have faced the same result. If it were someone else, we might not have even made it back alive.”
These words struck a chord with those who had been saved by Su Zhanze. They were all grateful to him. If it hadn’t been for Su Zhanze’s distraction of the Sea Soul, they might not have made it back alive.”
All of a sudden, a large portion of the people sided with Su Zhanze.
The atmosphere turned suddenly tense.
Ren Xiongbei added, “I do not wish to place blame on anyone. But the fact remains, the Immortal City Sect has chosen a new leader. Surely, we can’t go back on what’s been done. If we disregard what we all voted for, wouldn’t that reduce our actions to a childish play?”
“But Su Zhanze is also a Sect Leader,” argued Yuan Jingxing, standing up for Su Zhanze.
Debate continued among them, but the majority still sided with Ren Xiongbei, especially in the aftermath of the failed attack on Dragon Slayer Island. Furthermore, Su Zhanze had lost the Dragon Slayer Sword – a fact known to all. This made them trust Ren Xiongbei even more.
Ren Xiongbei stepped back. “Now, there is still the position of Vice Sect Leader in the Immortal City Sect, we can let Su Zhanze assume this position.”
Those who had voted for Ren Xiongbei to become the Sect Leader all voiced their approval in unison.
Yuan Jingxing desired to say something.
However, Su Zhanze already saw through the inevitability of the situation. He said, “I concur with Sect Leader Ren.”
Yuan Jingxing looked at Su Zhanze.
Ren Xiongbei then turned to Jiang Ouyang, “Brother Jiang, what’s your take?”
Jiang Ouyang observed the situation and realized that even if they held a re-election, Ren Xiongbei would likely emerge as the winner, causing more strife. Now that Ren Xiongbei had offered Su Zhanze the Vice Sect Leader position, it wasn’t too terrible. Su Zhanze was still technically on their side. Though Ren Xiongbei had gained more power, it should still be manageable. It was better than facing it all alone. He analyzed the situation then said, “I agree with Sect Leader Ren and what Su Zhanze said.”
This immediately resulted in Su Zhanze being selected as the Vice Sect Leader.
Though it felt like a demotion for Su Zhanze, he had to bear it. Compared to when he was the main Sect Leader, it was a slight blow to his ego, but there was no other choice. He had to adapt to the circumstances. The others were yet to blame him for the many deaths of the Immortal City Sect disciples.
When he reminisced about the initial situation, Ren Xiongbei was in strong opposition back then, but now he was using this issue against them. What could he do? He had lost the Dragon Slayer Sword too.
With the Vice Sect Leader elected, Ren Xiongbei heaved a sigh of relief knowing his position was secured. He was now the top authority in the Immortal City Sect. Ren Xiongbei courteously exclaimed, “We are all part of the Immortal City Sect. Regardless of past conflicts, we should unite. Only then can we manage the Sect’s affairs efficiently.”
Su Zhanze understood this fake politeness, but he had nothing to say. Very soon, everyone dispersed.
Yuan Jingxing followed Su Zhanze outside and said, “Young Master Ze, don’t take this to heart.”
Su Zhanze gave a faint smile and said, “What difference would it make if I did? Being alive right now, that’s enough for me to be grateful for.”
Yuan Jingxing nodded.
“Don’t worry, I’m fine, really.”
“We will have another chance.”
Su Zhanze, however, had no clue where that damned Dragon Slayer Sword was lost. Even if he wanted to find it, it was pitch black that night. Who knew, if they returned to the battlefield, how could they be ensured of not encountering the Sea Demon again?
“It’s a shame that we lost the Dragon Slayer Sword, we need to think of a way to retrieve it.” Yuan Jingxing said.
“We can’t risk it, who knows if that unpredictable monster will appear again.”
“True, after escaping with our lives, we can’t take such a risk.”
“Damn Dragon Slaying Clan, how can they control the Sea Demon.”
“It should be the red mist that night that drew it here.” Yuan Jingxing said.
Su Zhanze remembered and nodded slightly.
“It must have been that mist, they can’t control the Sea Demon, it was the mist that attracted it.” Yuan Jingxing said.
“We should take it slow.” Su Zhanze said.
“I believe no one knows where exactly the Dragon Slayer Sword was lost. As long as we find the Dragon Slayer Sword, take it slow, we can rise again, Ren Xiongbei only has the upper hand for now.”
Su Zhanze nodded, though he himself didn’t know where he wrecked the boat.
Yuan Jingxing said, “Everyone is glad you’re alive, really, we are all very happy.”
Su Zhanze turned his head and asked, “What about Wasteland City?”
Yuan Jingxing explained, “The New City Sect really had bad luck. Longhun defeated us on Dragon Slayer Island and lured the Sea Demon to deal with us. They secretly entered the Wastelands, but no news had come back from Dragon Slayer Island by that time. No one could expect that the Dragon Slaying Clan would collude with the Third Demon. By the time the people of the New City Sect learned the news of Dragon Slayer Island, they had already fallen into a trap.”
“How did Longhun get in touch with the third demon so quickly?”
“No, the Mitra Monk had already entered the Wastelands when Longhun did. The one who colluded with the third demon was the Mitra Monk. He brought along Longhun’s plans, and had already discussed with the people of the third demon. As soon as Longhun entered, the third demon would attack Tianle city.” Yuan Jingxing continued. “The Third Demon challenged the New City Sect to a fight, and the New City Sect did not expect this to be a trap.
When the battle was evenly matched, Longhun’s men suddenly attacked and broke Tianle city at once. The people of the New City Sect abandoned Tianle City, planning to escape back to the Wastelands, but they were blocked by the Mitra Monk who was lying in ambush in the valley and almost surrounded by him.
They barely escaped the encirclement but paid a heavy price. But when they returned to Wasteland City, it was taken over by the Dragon Slaying Clan and the third demon. I heard that the daughter of the former Sect Leader Wei Sisan, a girl named Wei Yiling who was paralyzed, also died in the incident.”
“Wasn’t it said that Wei Yiling was going to get married to Ye Chen?”
“On the day of the wedding, the Third Demon wanted to attack Dragon Slayer Island, so Ye Chen led the people of the New City Sect out.”
“What happened to the people of the New City Sect?”
“The New City Sect is now left with only a bunch of remnant soldiers, not many people. The Third Demon controlled most of the Wastelands in an instant, so they had no place to stand. The people of the New City Sect could only escape to the dark areas not controlled by the Third Demon.”
“And what about the people of the Dragon Slaying Clan?”
“After Shi Yin Zun’s death, Dragon Slayer Island lost its leader, which is equivalent to the Dragon Slaying Clan losing its chief. Longhun should have taken people back to Dragon Slayer Island. After all, he was to inherit the position of Island Master. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to control all the people of the Dragon Slaying Clan.”
“Shi Yin Zun died?” Su Zhanze found it hard to believe.
Yuan Jingxing quickly said, “We are also very puzzled. The news from Dragon Slayer Island said that Shi Yin Zun was killed by people from our Immortal Demon Realm, but we are not clear who killed him. At that time, it was total chaos. Fang Ziren fled with people ahead of time, you were also present at the scene, you hurt Shi Yin Zun, the Sea Demon attacked, and he also fled. After that, we all left.”
“Although I hurt him, it shouldn’t have been that serious, he shouldn’t have died from it.”
“Yes, I thought the same, but in fact, Shi Yin Zun is really dead, this cannot be false. The people of the Dragon Slaying Clan all said that it was us from the Immortal Demon Realm who killed Shi Yin Zun.”
Su Zhanze was silent for a moment before saying, “No, it’s likely that Longhun killed Shi Yin Zun and shifted the blame onto us. He had a motive to kill Shi Yin Zun. After Shi Yin Zun died, he became the leader of the island, he became the leader of the Dragon Slaying Clan. He absolutely had a motive to kill Shi Yin Zun.”
Yuan Jingxing immediately reacted, saying, “Yes, your analysis is correct. I heard that Longhun and Shi Yin Zun had a very stiff relationship when they were competing for the position of island leader.”
“It seems we were set up. They lured us to Dragon Slayer Island, and used the Sea Demon to defeat us. They also shifted the blame for killing Shi Yin Zun onto us. It’s like killing two birds with one stone.”
When Yuan Jingxing heard this, he was enlightened, “If that’s the case, we really were set up by others.”
“Surely we were set up. There’s nothing to doubt.”
“Longhun is too smart. He not only killed two birds with one stone, but he also defeated the New City Sect and took his revenge thoroughly, and colluded with the third demon. That’s quite impressive. He thought it all out.” Yuan Jingxing was somewhat shocked.
Su Zhanze also paused, saying, “Don’t think too much.” He didn’t expect such a big turnaround.
“We have to be extra careful with Longhun in the future, this person is too smart.”
