Chapter 561 - 561 547 Su Zhanze Never Died

Chapter 561: Chapter 547: Su Zhanze Never Died Chapter 561: Chapter 547: Su Zhanze Never Died Su Zhanze woke up, unsure how long he had slept. He only knew that the final shock wave had broken the boat, and he was slowly being dragged by the Sea Demon to the sea bottom. He had no idea where the Dragon Slayer Sword had fallen. Desperately, he swam in the dark water until he finally managed to grab onto a piece of broken wood. After that, he remembered nothing.

When he woke up, he found himself in a grass hut and thought he might have ended up in hell.

His foot was sprained, bandaged, and throbbing with pain.

A fisherman entered. “You’re finally up!” he said.

“Where am I? How long have I been asleep?”

The fisherman said, “You’re in a small fishing village. You’ve been asleep for seven days. We thought you might never wake up! We found you clinging to a piece of wreckage in the sea and brought you in.”

“Seven days? Am I back in Central Plains?”

“Yes, this is Central Plains,” the fisherman replied.

“How long has it been since the Immortal and Demon Domains lost to the Dragon Slaying Clan?” asked Su Zhanze.

“About a month.”

“That long?”

“Yes, more than a month now.”

“Has the Dragon Slaying Clan attacked the Central Plains again?” Su Zhanze asked with a worried expression.

A woman came in with some food.

“No, we haven’t heard about any attacks on Central Plains. But, the Dragon Slaying Clan defeated the New City Sect in the Wastelands, and together with the Third Demon, they drove the remaining people of New City Sect into the Dark Zone,” the fisherman explained.

“The New City Sect of the Wastelands was defeated by the Dragon Slaying Clan?” He could hardly believe it.

“Yes, they used tricks to lure the people of the New City Sect to Tianle City. The New City Sect had no idea that the Dragon Slaying Clan had already entered the Wastelands. The Third Demon and the Dragon Slaying Clan teamed up and laid a trap, shattering Tianle City and Wasteland City, defeating the New City Sect in one fell swoop,” the fisherman elaborated.

“What about the Immortal City Sect?”

“The Immortal City Sect is doing well. However, I heard that they have a new Sect Leader named Ren Xiongbei. Apparently, their previous Sect Leader died in the attack on Dragon Slayer Island.”

“What? A new Sect Leader?” Su Zhanze’s heart dropped as he struggled up from the bed.

“They searched for a long time and confirmed that the ship carrying their Sect Leader was destroyed. The Immortal City can’t be without a leader, so they chose a new one.”

“Ren Xiongbei is the Sect Leader.” This was not the outcome Su Zhanze wanted. How could this happen?

“Young man, what’s your name?” the woman asked.

“I’m Su Zhanze.”

“Good that you’re awake. Eat some food,” she said, pushing a bowl of fish porridge towards him.

Su Zhanze hadn’t realized that a month had already passed. He’d lost his Dragon Slayer Sword, and his position as Sect Leader was gone too.

After breakfast, Su Zhanze hastily left the small fishing village.

What should he do? This was not the outcome he wanted. It was different from what he expected.

People like Guo Yuqing thought Su Zhanze was dead. They had sent out ships to search for him but found nothing after half a month. They eventually concluded that the ship had sunk.

For a whole month, they had not recovered. Feng Nianmei was weeping bitterly. Besides her sadness, Guo Yuqing also had to take care of Feng Nianmei. Slowly, everyone had accepted this harsh reality.

Jiang Ouyang had supported the attack on Dragon Slayer Island, while Ren Xiongbei had been against it. Now, the attack had failed, and many disciples from the Immortal and Demon Domains had died.

Ren Xiongbei now had grounds to speak up. Su Zhanze was dead, and all the blame fell onto Jiang Ouyang without questioning the reasons. Jiang Ouyang could only bear it without uttering a word of complaint.

Everyone was worried that the Dragon Slaying Clan would take advantage of the situation and stir up trouble in Central Plains. Especially after the arrival of Hu Nanyue from Demon Palace, they decided to elect a new Sect Leader quickly. Ren Xiongbei, without any mistake, became the new Sect Leader of the Immortal City.

After all this time, the position of Sect Leader, which he had always desired, was finally his.

When Su Hong and Qiao Fanfeng were alive, Ren Xiongbei would never have had a chance. But both of them died, and then Su Zhanze unexpectedly snatched the position of Sect Leader. It turned out that heaven was indeed on his side. Su Zhanze was dealt with, and he became the Sect Leader of the Immortal City Sect.

For several days, he was so happy he could hardly sleep.

Qiao Haoyu approached him and said, “Sect Leader, we were lucky to have listened to you and stayed back. Otherwise, we might not have been able to return.”

How could Ren Xiongbei anticipate that the Dragon Slaying Clan would invoke Sea Demons? He considered himself very lucky. Unexpectedly, he was now in power, and he felt as if the heavens had blessed him.

“You must continue to guide us in the future, Sect Leader,” Qiao Haoyu added.

Ren Xiongbei was thrilled and rendered speechless. A bad situation had turned into a good one. If Su Zhanze had succeeded in conquering Dragon Slayer Island with the people of the Immortal and Demon Domains, he would surely be neglected in the future. Even thinking about such an outcome made him restless for days. Plus, he could use this opportunity to undermine Jiang Ouyang.

“Of course,” Ren Xiongbei replied.

Then they all congratulated him once again.

Jiang Ouyang could only bear it, feeling angry but unable to vent. For the sake of stability, he quickly arranged for Jiang Shizi and Yuan Jingxing to get married, hoping this would reverse their decline.

What else could Yuan Jingxing say? It was only with the support of his father-in-law and Su Zhanze that he had become the leader. Now, without their glory, the situation had turned into a mess. He couldn’t do anything else but obey his father-in-law’s wishes.

After several days, Su Zhanze returned to the Immortal City Sect, confirming along the way the truth he had heard: Ren Xiongbei had become the new Sect Leader.

He arrived back in Immortal City at noon on the same day that Yuan Jingxing and Jiang Shizi were to be wed.

The guards at the city gate were shocked. Everyone thought Su Zhanze was dead, but he had returned. It took a while to confirm the truth: Su Zhanze was back. He returned home and spoke to Feng Nianmei about what had transpired.

Feng Nianmei was simultaneously angry and overjoyed; although she had lost her position as Sect Leader, her son had returned.

Guo Yuqing couldn’t believe it. She had been devastated by the news of Su Zhanze’s death.

“Am I dreaming?” Guo Yuqing asked, looking at Su Zhanze.

“You’re not dreaming. It seems the gods didn’t want me dead yet, so they let me come back alive,” Su Zhanze replied.

Guo Yuqing burst into tears. She had been bottling up her feelings for days, caring for Feng Nianmei. She had been under so much strain, like a tightly strung string about to snap.

“Don’t cry, I’m okay,” Su Zhanze said. “Is there a celebration today?”

“Yuan Jingxing is getting married to Jiang Shizi.”

Su Zhanze nodded, but he couldn’t muster any joy.

Feng Nianmei didn’t know whether Su Zhanze already knew about Ren Xiongbei becoming the Sect Leader. Afraid that he’d be upset, she started to tell him, “Ren Xiongbei has already become the new…”

But before Feng Nianmei could finish her sentence, Su Zhanze cut her off, “I already know.”

“Ze’er, it’s okay. The position of Sect Leader is not that remarkable. Now, as long as you are alive, nothing else matters,” she reassured her son.

“I know, we should go and celebrate Yuan Jingxing and Jiang Shizi’s wedding,” Su Zhanze said, glancing at Guo Yuqing.

Guo Yuqing stopped crying.

Yuan Jingxing was welcoming the guests in attendance.

At that moment, Su Zhanze and Guo Yuqing walked in. The entire place was stunned, as if they couldn’t believe their eyes.

Yuan Jingxing and Jiang Shizi walked over. Yuan Jingxing owed his life to Su Zhanze; if it hadn’t been for him luring the Sea Demon away with a boat, he might not have survived.

Yuan Jingxing exclaimed in surprise, “Young Master Ze, am I seeing right? You really made it back alive!” He hugged Su Zhanze tightly.

Su Zhanze smiled and said, “It seems the King of Hell doesn’t want me yet. He thinks I still have things to accomplish and allowed me to return.”

“Enough of that, it’s a good thing you made it back alive,” Yuan Jingxing said.

“Congratulations on your marriage,” Su Zhanze said.

Jiang Shizi also stepped forward, saying, “Thank you for saving Yuan Jingxing’s life.”

“Let’s not talk about that today. We are both here to celebrate your big day. May you be blessed with a son soon and live together till old age,” Su Zhanze said, holding Guo Yuqing’s hand. The mood lightened considerably.

Yuan Jingxing wanted to tell Su Zhanze about recent events.

But Su Zhanze smiled and said, “Let’s not talk about that today. You should focus on your wedding.”

The news of Su Zhanze’s return was quickly conveyed to Ren Haotian, who told his father Ren Xiongbei.

Ren Haotian said, “Father, Su Zhanze is indeed alive. They say he was rescued by a fisherman.”

Ren Xiongbei smirked and murmured to himself, “It seems he truly has a survivor’s luck.”

Raising a concern, Ren Haotian asked, “Father, what about your position as Sect Leader?”

Ren Xiongbei smiled and said, “Even if he is alive, he poses no threat to my position as Sect Leader. I was elected with everyone’s approval. No one can retract their vote.”

“And what about Su Zhanze? After all, he was the previous Sect Leader.”

“He was defeated. The idea of him still being the Sect Leader is laughable,” mocked Ren Xiongbei.

Qiao Haoyu, who was nearby, chimed in, “I heard he lost the Dragon Slayer Sword.”

Ren Xiongbei replied, “Even if he hadn’t lost the Dragon Slayer Sword, he wouldn’t have a chance.”

Rather than worrying about Su Zhanze posing a threat to his position as Sect Leader, he was relieved that a new leader had been selected. Otherwise, the situation might have become complicated.

Qiao Haoyu asked, “If he is no longer the Sect Leader, then what is he?”

Ren Xiongbei pondered the question. As long he wasn’t threatened, he didn’t mind giving Su Zhanze some title. He answered, “At most, I would give him the Vice Sect Leader position.”

A vice-leader?” Qiao Haoyu echoed, surprised by his answer.

Ren Xiongbei knew he couldn’t put all the blame on Su Zhanze for the defeat, after all, they had encountered an unexpected Sea Demon. Anyone else would have faced the same fate. Most importantly, Su Zhanze managed to bring back a group of people from the Immortal City Sect.
