Chapter 551 - 551 537 Wan Danrong
Chapter 551: Chapter 537: Wan Danrong Chapter 551: Chapter 537: Wan Danrong Longhun analyzed, “Although we severely defeated the Immortal Demon Realm, the battle under Demon Palace City wounded us significantly. As of now, we are still not enough to confront them. Even if we try to deal with Immortal City, we do not have the Dragon Slayer Sword, let alone anything else to use. Rumor has it that they have rebuilt their Defense System, not to mention there’s Demon Palace City, almost unharmed.”
Having heard that, Old Du nodded, aware of the immense burden on them.
“Don’t rush, take it slowly. This great defeat in the Immortal Demon Realm means they can’t recover and reassemble swiftly. They won’t casually attack Dragon Slayer Island again,” Longhun said.
One of the men behind him said, “If they dare to come back, we’ll let them taste the wrath of Sea Demon again.”
After some thought, Longhun said, “The Mitra Monk won’t be able to locate the Demon Valley so quickly.”
Old Du added, “As long as we keep the Wastelands stable, we can make time to deal with them slowly. Without Ye Chen’s help, let’s see who they can turn to!”
Longhun gave a faint smile and asked, “By the way, the Immortal Demon Realm, did we destroy all six ships?”
“No, I heard that two ships managed to escape,” one of his men replied.
“Two ships escaped?”
“Yes, one was Fang Ziren’s ship, the other belonged to Song Zheng’an.”
“What about the new Sect Leader of the Immortal City Sect?” Longhun asked curiously.
“The guy named Su Zhanze knew he couldn’t get rid of Sea Demon, so he led the ship alone to divert the Sea Demon, allowing Song Zheng’an and the others to escape by sheer luck.”
Longhun was slightly puzzled and said, “It’s the guy who brought the Dragon Slayer Sword to Dragon Slayer Island, right?”
“Yes, him.”
“So, where is he now?”
“No one knows. He’s probably dead? People have been saying that he’s dead.”
“But what about the Dragon Slayer Sword?” Longhun was highly astonished.
“That’s unknown as well.”
After hearing this, Old Du said, “If he’s dead, I wonder if the Dragon Slayer Sword fell into the sea.”
After some consideration, Longhun said, “It’s highly possible.”
“If that’s so, finding the Dragon Slayer Sword would be a supremely good fortune,” Old Du lit up with excitement.
Burning with a green glow in his eyes, Longhun commanded, “Let’s send our disciples to search for it, to see if they can locate the final sunken ship.”
The disciples behind him nodded promptly in agreement.
Old Du, of course, understood the importance of the Dragon Slayer Sword. If they could procure its assistance, there would be no need to fear the Immortal Demon Realm in the future. It could assuredly turn the tide in their favor.
“Ah, don’t get too excited too soon,” Longhun cautioned.
Meng Xiuluo then entered with some food, and Old Du and the other person followed her out.
Spectating the sea and giving Meng Xiuluo a glance, Longhun asked, “Are you happy to be back at Dragon Slayer Island?”
“You must think me a three-year-old girl,” Meng Xiuluo said.
“Try to be a bit cheerier!”
“I’m cheerful.”
“Yet I feel as if you’ve lost your husband.”
Shaking her head, Meng Xiuluo replied, “I don’t know, but I have a bad feeling.”
“What’s so bad about going back and finding me married to Shi Xueqin?”
“That’s not it. I heard that Ye Chen’s new bride, Wei Yiling, died.”
“And then?”
“You should know what I’m hinting at.”
“Come on, if you die, you die, who doesn’t? If he wants to seek revenge, let him come,” proclaimed the heedless Longhun.
“I’m just worried.”
“There’s nothing to worry about.”
“Well, there’s nothing I can do about it anyway.”
“Once you get back to Dragon Slayer Island, get some good rest,” Longhun said, noting that Meng Xiuluo was fatigued. However, he hadn’t had enough fun. He had to make the Immortal Demon Realm pay.
Er Gui, leading his men, had already covertly entered Wanshou City. No one took any notice of them, nor would anyone believe that these men could barge in and capture Wan Guangde’s daughter.
That day, Wan Danrong was going to visit her teacher. The teacher, also her martial arts master, had fallen ill half a year ago. He stopped teaching her martial arts and left the Wan Residence. He lived at the foot of a mountain across from West Lake.
Wan Danrong never forgot him and visited him regularly.
She was accompanied by her maid named Yi Mei, who was her most trusted attendant, and several family guards. Among the guards, the leader was a man surnamed Ding, named Ding Yunjie.
Ding Yunjie’s father was Ding Shi, a master who was responsible for teaching martial arts to the Wan Residence guards. Their family had been staying in the Wan Residence for more than twenty years. Given the size of the Wan Family, their frequent business trips required the aid of martial arts practitioners.
Ding Yunjie often stayed close to Wan Danrong to ensure her safety.
Although Ding Yunjie had feelings for Wan Danrong, given his status, he found satisfaction in just being able to protect Wan Danrong.
However, Er Gui learned about Wan Danrong’s plan to visit her master on the other side.
Er Gui was under Gui Lang’s orders to come to Wanshou City and capture Wan Danrong.
He had been in Wanshou City for half a month, but had not found an opportunity. It wasn’t easy to capture Wan Danrong on the streets, plus she was always accompanied by a few bodyguards. Despite these guards not being highly skilled in martial arts, capturing Danrong and escaping unscathed was not a simple task.
Finally, tonight, he had a chance.
A sneaky-looking man named Haozi ran in and said, “Boss, we’ve confirmed she’s on the mountain.”
Er Gui nodded, starting to concoct plans. If he could capture Wan Danrong, it would be a significant achievement. He asked, “When will they come down the mountain?”
Haozi replied, “They will definitely descend before dusk. It’s certain they won’t stay overnight on the mountain.”
Er Gui then asked, “How many people are with her?”
“Five or six housekeepers, and one maid.”
“Alright, I won’t let her return to the Wan Residence.” Er Gui pointed to a subordinate and said, “You go prepare the horse carriage. We must not let this girl escape.” He was practically drooling at the thought.
The subordinate withdrew to prepare the carriage.
“We mustn’t let them return to the Wan Residence.” Er Gui immediately started drawing a rough plan on paper.
Haozi started to analyze, drawing out their return route and saying, “They will come back this way. If we want to act without alarming the people in the city, we can’t let them return to the city. They can only return here after dark, and I think this spot nearby is the best location for an ambush. The only thing around here is a run-down Gourd Temple and even beggars don’t come here.
Once we capture Wan Danrong, it will take at least two hours for their people to report back and for the Wan family to find out. By then, we will have already sent Wan Danrong out of the city.”
Er Gui was ecstatic and said, “Good, let’s lie in ambush here.”
Haozi added, “Once we’re out of Wanshou City, we’ll be on our own turf.”
“Start preparations immediately.” Er Gui looked at the map as if he was savoring a delicious meal.
The sky was gradually darkening. The two housekeepers in the front each held a lantern.
Wan Danrong was talking to Yi Mei.
Yi Mei said, “Our master is so stubborn. The Wan residence is not lacking in places to stay, but he insists on running to this wilderness, just to give us a hard time.”
Wan Danrong laughed and said, “Hey, stop nagging, we only come here occasionally.”
“I just want to say he’s a stubborn old mule. Wasn’t it good staying in the original courtyard? He insists on going to this desolate and uninhabited place and we even have to bring him food often.” Yi Mei grumbled.
Wan Danrong ignored her, saying, “Let’s just tolerate it for now. We can persuade him gradually in the future.”
“What else can we do, this is the only way.”
The surroundings were pitch black with no residences around. Up ahead was the Gourd Temple. Only after going past the Gourd Temple and traveling some distance would they enter the bustling area of Wanshou City.
Suddenly, the man in the lead, Ding Yunjie, stopped. He had noticed something unusual.
Feeling puzzled, Wan Danrong asked, “What’s wrong?”
Ding Yunjie answered, “Something’s not right. There are people up ahead.”
“Are we running into bandits?”
Before Ding Yunjie could finish speaking, over a dozen men in black clothing sprang out from the front.
Looking back, another dozen masked men in black clothes had also appeared.
Ding Yunjie shouted, “Who are you? Do you know we are from the Wan Family?”
Generally speaking, even bandits would show some fear at the mention of the Wan Family. Within hundreds of miles of Wanshou City, there wasn’t a person who didn’t know about the Wan Family.
However, a man in front sneered, “We came specifically to capture the young lady of the Wan Family.”
“What!” Ding Yunjie had already drawn the long sword from his waist, shot a glance at Wan Danrong, and said, “Protect the young lady.”
Wan Danrong also drew her sword.
The men in black attacked from both sides, scaring Yi Mei into a terrified scream.
Ye Chen, drunk and half-asleep, had been sleeping since he had eaten half a bowl of noodles. Finally, he saw Ling’er in his dream, but he was awoken by a scream. He groggily opened his eyes, the sky was completely dark.
He opened a bottle of wine, took a few sips, and heard the clashing of weapons.
The sounds of battle shattered the quiet night. Ye Chen grumbled, “Damn it, what the hell is all that noise about!” He had wanted to sleep a little longer, but now that he couldn’t, he decided to step outside.
Before he could reach the entrance, he saw over twenty masked men in black chasing a few people in white. Among the people in white, two girls were running in front.
The five housekeepers with Ding Yunjie were all skilled fighters handpicked from the household staff. Despite their skills, in their attempt to break through the encirclement, three of them had been killed. But they had at least made a breakthrough.
However, the men in black closely followed, refusing to let go.
Seeing it was hard to shake them off, and with some distance still to cover to the city, Ding Yunjie quickly told Wan Danrong and Yi Mei, “Both of you, leave quickly. We will hold them off.”
Fearing they might be in danger, Wan Danrong protested, “No, I want to stay with you all.” She had already witnessed three of their comrades fall to the blades of the men in black. Leaving them behind, she feared, would put them in danger.
But Ding Yunjie insisted, “Their goal is to capture you, you are the most important one.” He yelled, “Yi Mei, hurry and take the young lady back, get help.”
Yi Mei, already terrified out of her wits, shouted, “Miss, we should hurry back and call for reinforcements to save them.” She grabbed Wan Danrong and began to run.
Ding Yunjie and his two remaining housekeepers prepared to hold off the masked men in black.
With his face covered, Er Gui asked, “Where’s Wan Danrong?”
“Up ahead.” Haozi replied.
“Son of a…, we must not let my future bride escape.”
