Ye Chen had been puzzling over something all last night and could not figure it out. He just felt that something was off.

He woke up to a foggy morning in the valley. The darkness had made visibility difficult the previous night, but he could finally observe his surroundings somewhat clearly now, even through the dense fog.

Some disciples were already up, preparing their morning meals. The otherwise silent mountain started bustling when some animals started to emerge from the woods.

Jiang Zhuge walked up to him and asked, “Ye Chen, did you sleep well?”

“I had a nightmare where someone was attacking Wasteland City,” Ye Chen replied.

Kong Sha chuckled lightly and responded, “That’s unlikely. You’re probably just too anxious. I’m sure Wasteland City is the safest place right now.”

Ye Chen feigned a smile and said, “Perhaps.” He then stood up and got ready.

Jiang Zhuge speculated, “Ye Chen, you must have had that dream because you are so concerned about Wasteland City.”

“Hmm, how’s the situation ahead?”

“Our scouts haven’t returned yet, but they should send us a messenger pigeon soon.”

Kong Sha added, “They know we’ve arrived. They’re bound to have packed up and left.”

Just as he was speaking, a disciple came running with a messenger pigeon carrying news.

Jiang Zhuge opened the message and his expression turned serious.

Ye Chen asked, “What happened?”

“They are still fiercely attacking Sky Domain City.”

“A fierce attack?” Ye Chen seemed incredulous. “Elder Jiang, do you think that’s reasonable?”

Jiang Zhuge cast a glance at Ye Chen.

Ye Chen further explained, “There’s no way they don’t know we’re on our way. And the people at Sky Domain City must also be aware of our arrival. They would have been prepared. They’ve been resisting the attack for the past couple of days. They can’t possibly fail to hold out now. Isn’t it out of character for the Zen Master to launch such a fierce attack without a care? Doesn’t he worry about getting sandwiched like dumplings?”

Jiang Zhuge conceded, “You have a point.”

Kong Sha raised a doubt, “Could there be something wrong here?”

“Unless they’re planning to lure us into an ambush…” Ye Chen looked at Jiang Zhuge.

Jiang Zhuge, as if having an epiphany, asked, “What?”

“Unless they’re drawing us in to ambush us, or they intend to strike Wasteland City.”

“How is that possible? There’s just their gang. They couldn’t possibly make a move against us,” Kong Sha said in disbelief.

Ye Chen fell silent for a while before expressing, “Regardless, the whole situation is illogical. They shouldn’t still be attacking Sky Domain City right now, and certainly not so fiercely. It doesn’t make sense.”

Jiang Zhuge too fell silent before deducing, “To set up an ambush, or to assault Wasteland City, they need to bring people into the city. But Slaughter Saint and his men are already being watched by the immortal-demon realm.”

Ye Chen retorted, “What if it’s not Slaughter Saint’s men? You should remember, Dragon Slaying Clan has many more powerful fighters, such as Mutant Winged Dragon, Mitra Monk, and so on.”

“If that’s the case, then it’s dangerous,” Jiang Zhuge stated.

“But we haven’t noticed any suspicious movement around us. Could we really be walking into an ambush?” Kong Sha asked.

Gazing at the map, Ye Chen hypothesized, “Either they’re planning to ambush us, or target Wasteland City. If they plan to ambush us, they’ll surely be waiting right in front of us. If they plan on attacking Wasteland City, they won’t allow us to return so easily.”

Having listened to Ye Chen, Jiang Zhuge asked, “So, what are we supposed to do?”

Jiang Zhuge shook his head and replied, “Everything’s normal over there.”

And yet, Ye Chen said, “Even if something happened, it wouldn’t be possible for us to receive the news so soon.” He left that sentence unfinished.

Jiang Zhuge suggested, “You’re worried about a sneak attack on Wasteland City.”

Ye Chen merely nodded.

“With you saying that, I’m now feeling uneasy too.”

“Let’s go back.”

“Go back? Now? What if all this is just your baseless conjecture?” Kong Sha inquired.

Yet Ye Chen said, “If they don’t want me to return, they’ll surely block our way from behind.” We’ll just have to run for an extra four hours.

Just then, someone brought news, saying, “It seems that we have fewer of the Zen Master’s men.”

Jiang Zhuge was taken aback as well, saying, “Ye Chen, I agree with you. We should run for another four hours. If they really are ambushing us, they will definitely appear behind us.”

Ye Chen was curious to see if his predictions would come true.

Jiang Zhuge woke everyone up, regardless of whether the people had eaten enough or not. He began to worry. If something bad had happened in Wasteland City, it would be disastrous. Currently, Wasteland City was already short-staffed, yet so many people had been pulled away.

Kong Sha said, “Could it really be as Ye Chen said?”
