Chapter 272 - 272 260 Wei Sisans Determination
Chapter 272: Chapter 260: Wei Sisan’s Determination Chapter 272: Chapter 260: Wei Sisan’s Determination Wei Sisan knew this. If he sent one hundred men over, his plans would be exposed immediately. He couldn’t bring himself to do this. He shouted, “Don’t make things worse. Let them use the giant beasts, but don’t expect me to assign men for your use. We stick to the original plan, you must hold them off for at least one hour.”
Wei Sisan resolutely believed that the enemy would not attack from the east. How could they overlook a glaring vulnerability to target an impenetrable position? It was unthinkable.
The people who were squawking fell silent at Wei Sisan’s anger. They feared that further complaints would drive him to the edge.
“Did you hear me? Let them use our Winged Dragons and Giant Beasts, that should keep them occupied. Don’t ask me to assign men,” he declared. The stakes were high. This battle would decide the fate of their conflict with the Dragon Slaying Clan. He would not allow anyone to disrupt his focus.
Kong Sha lowered his head.
Jiang Zhuge ordered, “Kong Sha, you should also go help them.”
Kong Sha promptly left.
With the vocal crowd silenced, Sisan began to sweat coldly. He came dangerously close to being swayed. Had he not managed to maintain his composure, he might have been persuaded by their arguments.
Jiang Zhuge tentatively asked, “Sect Leader, might it be possible they’ve discovered something?”
“Impossible.”
“Their concerns are valid as well. Sending some men over would fortify our position.”
“Don’t you understand? If you move men over there, the Zen Master would see through our plans. How could he consider heading northwest then? I bet there are Zen Master’s spies in the city, watching our every move from the shadows. One slip-up and they’ll notice, exposing our entire plan.”
Jiang Zhuge nodded slightly.
Wei Sisan reassured himself by saying, “Don’t worry, the Zen Master isn’t a fool. Why would he choose a difficult point for their breakthrough? It’s not possible. I would wager that they will maintain their original plan to attack from the northwest. They are trying to deceive us and disrupt our formation. Rest assured that our disciples can hold their line. Now, we must stand our ground.”
Jiang Zhuge nodded, “Yes, the Sect Leader is right.”
Weis Sisan started to clear his mind more and grew more confident. He felt like he had suddenly calmed down. “Hurry, take care of your own position.” He was now even more certain that this was a plot to lure them out of their strategic positions and then suddenly attack from the northwest.
Weis Sisan continued, “Relax, if I’m not mistaken, in just one hour, they’ll strike from the northwest, I am willing to bet anything on that.”
Jiang Zhuge had rarely seen Wei Sisan so confident.
“Don’t worry, this is definitely part of their plan. We shouldn’t allow ourselves to be thrown into chaos before they’ve even made a move,” Wei Sisan was the most composed at the moment.
“Yes, the Sect Leader is right.”
“Stay calm, trust me.”
Soon after, Jiang Zhuge left.
Weis Sisan glanced around uncomfortably. The atmosphere was indeed tense, any misstep could cause chaos. He knew that it was crucial to remain steady, only then would they have a chance to seize the moment.
As expected, after Wei Sisan’s address, the panic in the air eased. With the Giant Beasts and Winged Dragons supporting them, they were under immense pressure, but they managed to hold on without any major mishaps.
Meanwhile, Ye Chen was still duelling with the Zen Master.
“Everyone says you cannot deal with me, and I you. You didn’t believe me then. Are you starting to believe me now?” questioned Ye Chen.
The Zen Master shot Ye Chen a cold glance.
“Such a shame,” Ye Chen sighed, “If we got the chance, I would love to discuss with you how I could improve my Martial arts skills as quickly as possible.”
“Discussions… I could blow you away with one swing.” The Zen Master, as though provoked, summoned a bolt of lightning, grabbed a sculpture that stood two meters tall, and launched it straight at Ye Chen.
Ye Chen released a beam of light that sliced through the sculpture like a knife, splitting it in two halves. With a swift dodge, he passed straight through the divided halves.
The Zen Master, in a fit of rage, started throwing anything he could get his hands on at Ye Chen, his hands crackling with electricity much like the raging tantrums of a scorned woman.
Ye Chen, growing weary of dodging the colossal objects being hurled at him, retaliated with two bolts of lightning, which gradually subdued the Zen Master’s violent frenzy.
The Zen Master appeared exhausted, significantly less ferocious than when the fight started.
Spotting an opportunity, Ye Chen said, “Now, it’s my turn.”
With a swish, a torrent of energy engulfed the Zen Master, who managed fend off the first two attacks but appeared to tire under the relentless onslaught.
An excitement surged within Ye Chen, “My turn now!” he exclaimed.
Before anyone could utter a word, the Zen Master launched a fire dragon, swiftly charging towards them. The entire fire dragon, roaring with flames, set everything in its path on fire. In an instant, it entangled Ye Chen, who couldn’t afford to take it lightly. He fought fiercely with the fire dragon, but in the blink of an eye, he couldn’t find the Zen Master in the chaos.
Shen Tian quickly broke free from Wei Sisan’s men.
Once again encountering the Zen Master, he asked a disciple beside him, “What’s the situation?”
An underling reported back, “Mmm, the flaws in their defense are becoming increasingly obvious.”
The Zen Master nodded upon hearing this.
“I’ll lead the assault to breach their defense,” Shen Tian said.
“No, let me lead,” Zen Master replied.
“Forget it, let me handle this dangerous task.”
“No, I will.”
“Then let me assist you, help you break their defenses.”
“No, we can’t both be involved in the breach. We need someone to stay outside in case something happens. Someone must be responsible, and we only have two men who can handle it: you and me. So it’s either you or me, one of us must stay outside. You should stay.”
Shen Tian could only reply, “Alright, I will follow your instructions.”
The warrior battling Shen Tian suddenly found himself engulfed in a smoke screen, and Shen Tian vanished. His men immediately reported to Wei Sisan. On seeing the situation on Ye Chen’s end, where the latter was entwined by a fire dragon and the Zen Master had disappeared, he shouted, “Jiang Zhuge, come over here quickly!”
Jiang Zhuge had no idea what was happening.
Wei Sisan said, “They must be planning to breach our defenses.”
“From where?”
“The northwest corner, definitely the northwest corner.”
Jiang Zhuge had no idea how Wei Sisan knew, he looked bewildered as the northwest corner showed no signs of activity.
Wei Sisan said, “Trust me, it’s the northwest corner. The Zen Master has disappeared, and it won’t be long before they launch their attack. Keep your eyes open, you’re in charge here. I need to head to the northwest corner.”
Jiang Zhuge nodded in agreement.
“Hold your ground, understand?”
“Understood.”
Wei Sisan ran towards the other side to assist Ye Chen against the fire dragon. Ye Chen was growing impatient. With Wei Sisan’s support, dealing with this untouchable fire dragon was indeed challenging.
Wei Sisan shouted, “Ye Chen!”
Ye Chen turned back to look at him and Wei Sisan signaled towards the northwest corner. Ye Chen understood Wei Sisan’s intentions and quickly said, “You go ahead; within two moves, I will deal with this gigantic grasshopper.”
Composing himself, Ye Chen suddenly marshaled an energy burst. Like an eel, the fire dragon thrashed violently. It came quickly, presenting no real danger, but it moved so erratically — left to right, then front to back — that Ye Chen could barely track it. Every time, it evaded his attack by a hair’s breadth.
This time, Ye Chen remained calm, awaiting its approach. He faked a move and released a hand, the dragon—aware of Ye Chen’s prowess—dodged quickly. However, Ye Chen had not truly made his move. Only when it charged at him again did he strike for real. His opponents usually would have hurried to dodge, but boom, a burst of energy was unleashed. It didn’t hit the fire dragon directly but instead hit a building behind, creating a shockwave. The strong energy released caused the dragon to stagger, and at that time, three palms struck the dragon directly.
It was cut down, a jet of flame flew away, instantly reducing the fire dragon to nothingness.
Suddenly, thick smoke rose from the northwest, and the smoke piled on to create an impenetrable fog, plunging the area into an abyss-like darkness.
Ye Chen swiftly descended to see a large group of people eagerly waiting and taking advantage of the thick dark smoke, penetrating the city walls of the northwest corner and entering the city. They were quickly halted by the defenders, but those hiding did not immediately come out—this was Wei Sisan’s plan.
They had to wait for the intruders to venture further in. If the defenders rushed out now, they could potentially scare off the Dragon Slaying Clan.
Ye Chen found Wei Sisan hiding in a corner of the wall. They divided themselves into three corners, forming a triangle, waiting for the continuing influx of intruders.
A large group of mutant beasts, seemingly starving, were licking their tongues, eagerly waiting for the intruders.
At this point, Wei Sisan felt relieved. Fortunately, they had been persistent; otherwise, they might have missed this opportunity.
Wei Sisan signaled to the men on the other two sides to wait for his command.
Everyone was waiting.
