Chapter 262 - 262 250 No Backaches when Standing and Talking

Chapter 262: Chapter 250: No Backaches when Standing and Talking Chapter 262: Chapter 250: No Backaches when Standing and Talking Wei Sisan had already turned around. Actually, he had seen the fight between Ye Chen and Shen Tian yesterday as well. He perceived that Ye Chen’s martial arts skills surpassed that of Shen Tian’s. He felt an intense energy inside Ye Chen, a strength that wasn’t found within anyone in the New City Sect. Only he could face off against the Zen Master, he believed that the Zen Master’s fighting prowess would most certainly top Shen Tian’s.

“Hey, we haven’t quite agreed on the arrangements yet. I’ll deal with Shen Tian and you guys take care of the Zen Master. How does that sound?” Ye Chen suggested.

Ling’er stomped over, shouting, “Can’t you have a little more self-confidence?”

“I can be confident, but I think preserving my life is the most important thing,” he responded.

Ling’er glared at Ye Chen coldly. She disliked his typical nonchalant demeanor.

“How about we let you handle it.” Ye Chen glanced at Ling’er and said: “You could charm that old man, have them surrender and join our side. Winning without fighting is the best way to victory. And I believe you could do it.”

“Let’s not lose focus.” Wei Sisan said as he descended the stone staircase along the city wall.

“Seriously, how could they do this? How could they leave the toughest challenge to me? How can they do this?” Ye Chen complained.

“Assigning the Zen Master to you means they trust you.” Ling’er replied.

“Well, I wish they wouldn’t trust me as much. I still want to live a long life.” Ye Chen said.

“You’re always quibbling.”

“Right, it’s easy for you to talk. When danger strikes, it’s me who will die.” Ye Chen retorted.

“With your thick skull, nothing can harm you.”

Wei Sisan and Jiang Zhuge, who had already descended, heard all the banter and chuckled.

Suddenly, a tremendous noise echoed, and fiery balls started flying before crashing onto the city wall. Shortly thereafter, a large group of monsters stormed in, casting a great shadow under the vast sky. Winged Dragons swarmed the sky as well, spitting enormous fireballs.

In less than half a moment, they had reached the top of the city wall. The fireballs shot across the sky just like a volcano erupting at any moment. The war cries from beyond the wall grew stronger and stronger.

The disciples of the New City Sect were ready for battle. The archers stationed on the top of the wall were in their positions, ready to unleash upon command. As the order was given, swords soared through the sky.

Despite the arrows shot at the monstrous creatures leading the charge, they didn’t seem very effective. However, the fireballs thrown from within the city were helpful. The Winged Dragons in the sky were the deadliest force at that moment.

The roar of dragons filled the air. In response, Ye Chen quickly moved to the back, keeping his distance from the chaotic fireballs that were sporadically falling within the city, setting buildings on fire.

Immediately, smoke billowed up at several places, but since they were well-prepared, the people had already been evacuated to the rear part of the city. Although buildings were on fire, they didn’t have to worry about casualties.

Since there weren’t any worries of that nature, the situation doesn’t seem as panic-stricken.

Ye Chen hid behind the city wall watching the intense aerial battles causing some Winged Dragons to fall within the city.

It was clear that there were even more Winged Dragons attacking than the day before.

In no time, black smoke clouded the surroundings.

Fireballs flew in from all directions, but Ye Chen was still somewhat unclear about the happenings.

Ling’er sat down next to Ye Chen, who wasn’t quite accustomed to her proximity and asked, “Why are you also running over here? Should’nt you go help?”

“Since you’re not going, why should I go?”

“Heh, your martial arts skills are amazing. You should go out and help. It would be a waste not to utilise such a talent.” Ye Chen said.

Ling’er knew he was making fun of her.

Seeing the catastrophe, Ye Chen sighed: “What’s the point of all this killing and fighting?”

“To fulfill the desires in their hearts.” Ling’er said.

“Whose desires are to kill and fight? I don’t see any fun in it.”

“I wouldn’t know about that.”

“If it’s for a beautiful woman, I could understand that. But to have so many die just for everyone to obey you, is it worth it!”

“Some people think it’s worth it. To control everything, isn’t that fun?”

Ye Chen occasionally glanced back and said: “Even now, I still don’t understand why they are doing all this.”

“Then you might as well ask the Zen Master today, see if he is willing to tell you.” Ling’er suggested.

“Actually, you’re not a bad person. Just that sometimes you have a bit of a temper, getting puffed up like a pufferfish, which is quite cute. You easily get annoyed, but I quite like the way you puff your face as if you’re lost. It’s just like a little child.”

“Are you saying nice things about me?” Ling’er sniffled.

“Especially when you snort, it’s quite endearing. Even that is somewhat likable.”

“You’re the one with an inflated ego!” Ling’er shouted.

“Go down, stop staying here, okay? You’re causing people to worry. Go and help out below, see if there are people who need help, try to save some of them, don’t just stay here.”

“When the Zen Master comes later, I’m really not sure what to do. I might not even be able to protect myself. I need to prepare myself mentally.”

Wan Lan blissfully ignored Ling’er’s words. That morning, everything was so silent. Just as expected, it didn’t take long for Meng Yan to come out of the house. Wan Lan immediately followed her, unsure where this girl was heading to. The girl was acting very sneaky and cautious, raising Wan Lan’s suspicions about her. She followed swiftly.

At the moment, the outside had turned into a battlefield. Most people dared not wander on the streets for fear that a winged dragon might swoop down. But the girl seemed unfazed and headed forward.

Despite having some martial arts skills, Wan Lan felt apprehensive, worrying that a Winged Dragon might indeed swoop down. The fireballs shooting through the sky were also a frightening sight.

A fireball came exactly from the right, with a loud explosion that made Wan Lan scream. But Meng Yan in front remained calm and collected as if this was an everyday occurrence, nothing like a vulnerable girl.

Her scream was heard by Meng Yan who realised someone was following her. She prepared to turn around but then decided against it.

Realizing she was discovered by the person ahead, Wan Lan quickly hid behind.

Meng Yan was taken aback. She heard the footsteps and realized her mistake. How could she not notice she was being followed? That stubborn girl still wouldn’t believe her after what happened last night. Cursed, what should she do, kill her? No, she can’t do that. If this girl was allowed to follow her, she must have had permission. If something happened to her, wouldn’t that also expose herself? Killing her would only leave no room for retreat.

She hurriedly quickened her steps to escape her pursuer. But she couldn’t use her martial arts. Last night, she had managed to dispel their suspicions. Exposing her martial arts now would be unwise. She took advantage of the scattered, collapsed buildings to try to shake off her pursuer.

A thick smoke billowed up, the front turned blurry. By the time Wan Lan got through it, Meng Yan was nowhere to be seen. She looked around, unwilling to admit defeat. But by now, she had, indeed, lost Meng Yan’s trace.

Meng Yan disappeared so quickly, before Wan Lan even had a chance to react. That girl must definitely be hiding something, Wan Lan thought. She managed to shake her off so easily, and seemed extremely alert, as if she had become a completely different person.

The rumbling sounds kept coming, reaching the peak of tension. Smoke filled the air everywhere. If she didn’t leave now, she might be in danger. How could a person without any martial arts skills dare to enter this battlefield? And how could she slip away from her so quickly? Impossible.

Such a pity, what was she about to do? Was she out to meet someone?

What a shame, she was so close. Those damned fireballs gave her away. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have alerted the person in front. Well, it was pointless to say anything now.

Ye Chen watched the melee below unfold. He felt he could no longer hold back. It was time for him to take action.

Can Mo came over.

Ye Chen asked, “What’s the situation at the city walls?”

“Not bad. They won’t be able to easily climb up,” answered Can Mo.

“I believe in you.”

“Set them on fire, unleash the monsters, and fight with them.”

“Don’t worry, we are currently working on it,” Can Mo said.

“We have to deploy all our monsters too. We can’t just let their monsters invade the city. Let ours guard the city walls. Having them spit fire would be useful too. Perhaps at a crucial moment, they can block a blade for us.”

Can Mo smirked.

At this moment, a few flying giant turtles suddenly leapt out of the fog, jumped over the city walls, and entered the city. Their hard shells were impervious to blades and spears.

They crushed several buildings.

Ye Chen murmured, “What the hell are these things? Since when can turtles fly?”

“Carnivorous Giant Turtles,” Can Mo said.

Ye Chen asked, “What’s a Carnivorous Giant Turtle?”

“Legend says that there are Carnivorous Giant Turtles that can fly on the Fire Mountain of Eastern Island.”

“You don’t mean these are them, do you?”

Ling’er stood up and shouted, “What are you waiting for? Go and help now!” She ran out and jumped down first.

About a dozen giant turtles had settled inside. The Carnivorous Giant Turtle’s massive limbs were like armor shells. With a swing, they could knock down a house.

No one dared to approach. No arrows could penetrate their thick shells. They retracted their heads and focused on demolishing the houses, one with each swing.

Ye Chen struck it with his palm, but it had no effect on the shell.

Ye Chen, feeling defiant, increased his energy release. With a loud bang, he sent one of them flying into the air. It crashed back down with a thud, surprisingly unscathed.

Damn, this couldn’t go on. They couldn’t beat these creatures with brute force. They had to come up with a plan. A solution had to be found.

Ling’er saw that Ye Chen had struck twice without any effect. She asked, “What should we do now?”
