Chapter 1375 - 1375 1361 The Strange Cave

Chapter 1375: Chapter 1361: The Strange Cave Chapter 1375: Chapter 1361: The Strange Cave “What are you looking at?” Guo Yuyun also looked ahead.

“Did this cave exist when we came here yesterday?” Ye Chen seemed to remember that he hadn’t seen the cave in their previous visits.

After a moment of recollection, Guo Yuyun said, “It seems we really haven’t seen it before.”

“Right, we haven’t seen this cave in our last two visits.”

Guo Yuyun looked around and said, “But this cave doesn’t seem to have formed just now.”

“Yeah, look at the trees around, they’re clearly very old. If it had formed just now, the trees at the entrance couldn’t have grown so quickly.”

“Yes, but there definitely wasn’t a cave here the other day.”

Suddenly, a cave appeared, three Zhang high, interrupting the argument between the two.

With curiosity and confusion, Ye Chen strode towards the cave entrance.

“What are you doing?”

“Of course I’m going inside to take a look.”

“Hey, forget it. What’s there to see inside? We better not go in.” That kind of eerie feeling made it seem as if dark clouds were looming overhead.

“What’s there to be afraid of? Hurry up.” Spending every day climbing here, and a master at threading through woods, Ye Chen couldn’t let go of such a curious event.

“Hey, didn’t you hear what I said?”

Ye Chen wanted to figure out what was going on.

But Guo Yuyun worried whether there was any danger ahead.

“You don’t play ‘Beast and Beauty.’ What’s so fun about climbing every day?” Ye Chen couldn’t be held back.

“I feel something is weird. Let’s not go.”

“I don’t think so.” Ye Chen’s curiosity grew even stronger, determined to understand the situation.

Guo Yuyun forgot to continue probing into her sister’s matters, instead following closely behind Ye Chen.

“Strange, really strange. How could a cave suddenly appear out of nowhere? It doesn’t make sense.”

Indeed, in this wild and desolate land, a cave should not have appeared out of thin air, Guo Yuyun thought, as she tightly clung to one of Ye Chen’s arms, staring straight into the depths of the cave entrance.

“Hold on tight, I won’t look after you when the time comes,” said Ye Chen, getting a bit nervous with her grip, yet enjoying the thrill of it all, muttering, “Maybe there’s treasure.”

“Treasure my foot, I bet there’s some big monster waiting inside.” Looking at the claw marks at the entrance, she had every reason to be suspicious.

“Monsters? We’ve been here for over a month and have never seen any.”

The cave entrance suddenly widened, and the sound of dripping water could be heard coming from inside, darkening the place and making it feel much more sinister.

“We really shouldn’t go in. I think it’s dangerous.”

Curiosity had already filled Ye Chen’s mind; he needed to figure out what was going on.

“Really, let’s just leave quickly.”

“Don’t you want to know what’s inside?”

Who would say Guo Yuyun didn’t want to know? But she feared danger even more.

“There might actually be gold and jewels.”

“If you want gold and jewels, I can give them to you. Why take the risk?”

“What you give me and what I find myself are not the same,” said Ye Chen, bolstering his courage to continue forward.

“Look how exhilarating this is.” Ye Chen became a bit more excited and added, “You must stick close to me, otherwise I might really leave you behind later.”

Guo Yuyun was still a bit scared. If they truly encountered a monster, wouldn’t that be awful? The people at the foot of the mountain didn’t even know what was happening up here. She said, “Monkey, we should just stick to playing ‘Beast and Beauty.’ Let’s not go any further.” She felt a chill up her spine.

Ye Chen just smiled and said, “We’ll save ‘Beast and Beauty’ for later. Today we’re on a grand adventure.”

Suddenly, a cave in the mountain—no wonder it invited suspicion. How could Guo Yuyun not be worried?

Thumping breathing sounds came through, as if a bizarre wind was blowing inside the cave.

Guo Yuyun stopped walking and asked, “What’s that sound?”

“It sounds like breathing,” Ye Chen felt as if he heard the panting of a tired buffalo.

“What, how can breathing sound like the wind?” Goosebumps continuously emerged as Guo Yuyun murmured, “There couldn’t really be a monster, could there?”

“Don’t scare yourself.” But Ye Chen admitted she was right—how large must a monster be for its breath to sound like the wind?

“Let’s just leave.”

“Come on, this is so much fun, so exhilarating,” Ye Chen became even more excited.

“Exhilarating my head, what if we can’t run fast enough later on?”

“That’s because you eat so much, getting so fat.”

“You’re the fat one.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll stand in front of you when it comes down to it.”

“How’s that possible? You’ll just have me in front and run off first,” she retorted.

Ye Chen chuckled and said, “No, I wouldn’t do that. I’m so nice to you, how could I possibly abandon you?”

It was getting darker and darker. The interior was somewhat damp, and there was an array of stalactites standing erect, as if they had grown right out of the ground, taller than a person. It must have taken so many years to form them.

The tremors were getting closer and closer, the ground quaking in waves.

“There really is danger,” she said.

“Don’t worry, I’m indestructible,” Ye Chen wasn’t about to pass up such an opportunity to tease her. Suddenly turning his head, he scared Guo Yuyun so much she almost jumped.

“What are you doing?” Guo Yuyun demanded.

“Just preparing you mentally,” he replied.

Guo Yuyun shivered.

Seeing her nervousness, Ye Chen found it even more amusing—it was more exciting than playing with wild beasts and beauties in the forest.

“You dead guy, how dare you suddenly startle me.” She was about to punch him when suddenly, a roar sounded.

This time it wasn’t Ye Chen. The roar resonated like thunder, with a continuous cracking sound, causing the entire cave to tremble violently.

Ye Chen, too, began to feel anxious, his skin crawling with goosebumps.

“What was that noise?” Ye Chen asked, already retreating behind Guo Yuyun.

“Do you plan to push me out there?” asked Guo Yuyun.

“Your flesh is a bit thicker, and you can’t escape. It would be better if you were in front.”

“You jerk, I’m not playing this game anymore, I’m leaving,” Guo Yuyun said, trying to leave.

“Don’t, we’ve come all this way. We must see whether it’s a person or a ghost before we can leave content,” Ye Chen implored her, pulling Guo Yuyun, who was ready to leave.

Guo Yuyun was dragged onward by him.

Her heart pounded wildly, but the greater the fear, the stronger the curiosity.

“Hurry up.”

“What is there to see?”

“Aren’t you curious about what kind of ‘ghost’ it is?”

“I’m not curious.”

Meng Xiuluo had already climbed up and Xiang Yi was following right behind him, but they couldn’t spot any trace of Ye Chen, which they found strange. “Are you sure these two climbed up this mountain?” There were several large mountains on the island, but this one stood apart. You couldn’t reach another mountain from this one directly. If they were on this mountain, they should at least be able to climb to a spot where they could be heard, but there was no sign of them.

“You really came up here to look for them,” Xiang Yi stated.

“Don’t you find it strange?”

“How could it be strange? Those two probably found themselves a cave or a patch of woods to engage in their mischief. They came to climb the mountain under pretense, but once they got up here, they dived into the bushes.”

“You seem to be very experienced in these matters.”

“What else could it be? It’s exhausting to climb mountains every other day. They definitely chose secluded spots in the mountains because they were afraid of being seen below; it’s too embarrassing. So, they escape to the top, where they can be alone together, with nothing but nature around them.”

Meng Xiuluo furrowed his brow.

“You think I’m just making this up,” she said.

“No, your experiences seem very rich.”

“It’s not about being rich with experiences; anyone could figure this out with their eyes closed. Those two, climbing the mountain every few days, if they’re not up to something indecent, what else would they be doing? They’re too ashamed to do anything in a cave at night, so they seize the day to go up the mountain where no one will bother them. How perfect is that—they could even play ‘beauty and the beast’ without an issue.”

“That’s true, in this forest, they can play however they like,” Meng Xiuluo said, looking around and pointing in the direction of the hillside. “It looks like there’s a pond over there.”

Xiang Yi saw it too and remarked, “Maybe they’re in the pond, playing ducks and drakes. Would you feel right going over to watch?”

“Why feel awkward about watching? If they dare to put on a live show, I’ll go and enjoy the spectacle,” saying this, she was already getting up to go down for a look.

At that moment feeling a bit thirsty, she wanted to go down and wash her face thoroughly, murmuring, “But you’re right, at night, with so many people around, they wouldn’t dare do anything. Only during the day can they come up to the mountain.”

“Of course, I think they’re quite crafty with their antics.”

Upon reaching the pond, the water was indeed crystal clear. Meng Xiuluo glanced around, not seeing the frolicking couple Xiang Yi mentioned, which sparked a thought, “I need to take a bath.”

“What, you want to take a bath?”

“Yes, don’t you think it’s hot? It would be great to bathe here.”

“But it’s out in the open.”

“Yeah, the view is endless!”

“Aren’t you afraid that those two might emerge from the woods at any moment and then you won’t be able to dress quickly enough?”

Meng Xiuluo looked around and said, “That shouldn’t happen.”

“You’re seriously considering taking a bath?”

“Of course, I haven’t bathed in a long while, I’m covered in sweat. Down below, although I had this idea, I didn’t dare to bathe, too many people, always a chance of running into someone. Here it’s different.”

Xiang Yi stared wide-eyed.

“Really, it’s perfect to cool off properly. Do you want to join?” Meng Xiuluo asked.

“I don’t think so,” Xiang Yi replied, as she wasn’t that bold.

“Then watch the surroundings for me. If anyone comes, let me know immediately.”
