Chapter 1361 - 1361 1347 Came Back to Life Again

Chapter 1361: Chapter 1347: Came Back to Life Again Chapter 1361: Chapter 1347: Came Back to Life Again Ye Chen had a narrow escape from death, and it felt like he was clawing his way back from hell itself, realizing with each passing moment that he didn’t have much time left.

Guo Yuyun didn’t want to think about all that mess. To her, the most important thing was to make the best of the upcoming days; everything else was not her concern.

Meng Xiuluo left them a torch, saying, “You better keep up. If you get lost, that’s not our problem.” She didn’t like hearing such cheesy words, maybe because she no longer believed in love.

“Can’t you just stop thinking and live our lives?” Guo Yuyun turned her head and asked.

Ye Chen smiled and countered, “I might turn into a mad dog at any moment. Shouldn’t we take that into account?”

“Why can’t you be like me and live well while we’re still alive?”

“That’s too naive.”

“You’re too complicated.”

“We’ve been over this so many times, there’s no point in continuing. It’s not going to solve anything.”

Guo Yuyun said, “Yeah, you know I won’t give up. Why do you still try to convince me?”

It seemed that this girl wasn’t worried about the possibility of him turning her into a dog that’s been split in two someday.

“Without you, I lose my soul. I know that one day you might really leave. Can I willingly accompany you on that journey?”

Her eyes, bright and watery under the firelight, were impossible to refuse.

“Really, no matter what happens in the future, at least we should cherish the days we have together. The future might be bleak, and one day one of us will have to leave first. Can’t you just indulge me and cherish every day that follows?” Guo Yuyun didn’t know if there was any salvation for him. If she left now, she was sure to regret it.

She was stubborn indeed. Why did his nose feel sour all of a sudden?

“We can’t control our destiny tomorrow, but we can live today well. You know I’d never leave you, no matter what methods you try. Why keep struggling? Better to willingly accept it. Whether tomorrow is the end of the world or whatever doesn’t matter.”

She had made up her mind, completely regardless of the consequences. But there was one thing Ye Chen knew—he couldn’t shake off this clingy ‘dog-skin plaster.’

“Why bother? It just makes both of us unhappy. Better to accept it openly.”

“I’m impressed by you. Everyone else is trying to stay away from me. After what happened today, you’re not scared at all. If you haven’t gone mad, then you must be foolish to be so persistent.”

“It’s not bad to be foolish once in a while, to enjoy being foolish wholeheartedly.”

Ye Chen had no recollection of how he reached that cave, only realizing how dense the forest was.

The dark forest was full of strange animal noises.

“I should have brought some explosives with me,” Ye Chen muttered.

“Explosives! What do you mean?” Guo Yuyun asked, puzzled.

“It’s too painful. When I can’t bear it anymore, I could use it to end it quickly, rather than continue to suffer.”

“A quick ascent to heaven, then?”

“Yes, otherwise it would be too torturous not to be able to die when I want to.”

Hearing these negative thoughts, Guo Yuyun really wanted to hit him and said, “Do you need me to hang one around your neck right now?”

“Let’s not. If I accidentally set myself off, that would be bad,” Ye Chen replied.

“Then you won’t have time when you’re in agony,” Guo Yuyun said with a hint of sarcasm.

“Ah, better not,” Ye Chen continued to ponder. “Seems like I need to find someone to carry on my legacy. Otherwise, dying like this would be such a waste of my excellent genes.”

“Yes, start sowing your seeds, scatter them far and wide,” replied Guo Yuyun.

“That won’t do. I need someone compassionate at least. Growing up, I lived like a child without a father. It was painful. I can’t inflict that on someone else. At the very least, I have to consider whether the mother has a loving heart.”

Small animals scurried back and forth through the woods.

They quickly returned to camp.

Xiang Yi was astonished to see that the boy hadn’t gone mad and was only half-naked. It was a miracle; she had thought he was beyond saving.

Ye Chen glanced around. People were setting up tents as if building a stage, and though it was past midnight, they didn’t rest. A large area was cleared, like a hole dug in the middle of the woods, with a pond not far off, and the sound of a creek flowing nearby, brightly lit all around.

“Are they planning to settle here?” Ye Chen wondered aloud.

“The ship sank. They’ll need to build another, which will take at least a month or two,” replied Guo Yuyun.

“What, we’re going to stay here for a month or two?”

Meng Xiuluo, overhearing from a distance, chimed in, “Then cut a log and float back yourself.”

Guo Yuyun whispered, “They don’t want to go back so soon. I bet everyone from the Thirty-Six Islands and the Immortal-Demon Realm is out there searching for them. They want to hide out in the Dark Sea Territory for a while.”

“I wanted to seize this opportunity to sow my seeds far and wide, but it looks like I’ve failed again.”

Guo Yuyun glared at him.

“Hey, I’m just joking. Who would be as crazy as you to have a crush on me?” Ye Chen quickly moved forward to get a piece of clothing. Although it wasn’t a perfect fit, it was better than remaining shirtless. His physique was not bad, but that was no reason to give them a free show.

Approaching a fire pit, he grabbed some roasted meat and asked, “Got any wine?”

Hearing this, Guo Yuyun said, “Do you have a death wish?” Having just stabilized, now he wanted to drink? He really was looking for trouble.

Ye Chen explained, “My whole body is in pain. I just want a drink to numb myself and not feel so miserable. You know how it is with someone like me, living day to day, not knowing when I’ll die. If I don’t take the chance to enjoy life now, I’ll probably regret it when my time comes.”

“Then shall I get some beautiful women to come over and give you a massage? Wouldn’t that be even more comfortable?”

“Stop joking. How could you ever allow something like that to happen?”

“How about I give you a massage then?”

“With a hammer? I’ll pass.” Ye Chen didn’t find any help and found a spot to sit down. Luckily there are more than just you and me stranded here, a whole bunch of people. Otherwise, we could only play the role of a mating pair of monkeys here. I bet no one would come to this godforsaken place for a hundred years, I’m sure of it.”

Guo Yuyun also sat down next to him. Having been worried all day, she hadn’t eaten much and was only now feeling a bit of appetite, so she devoured her food hungrily and said, “If you want to be the male monkey, go ahead.”

“Do you think they’ll assume we’re dead?” In a month or two, anything could happen outside.

“Who could miss you more than I do?”

“There is someone, your sister.”

Those words were obviously intentional, making Guo Yuyun so mad she couldn’t speak and said, “Are you only happy when you make me feel terrible?”

“Aw, come on, I was only kidding. I know you must’ve been really worried this afternoon, probably even thinking about joining me in death.”

“There’s no way I’d do that,” Guo Yuyun said, biting fiercely into a piece of meat.

“It’s surprising I’m still alive; I’m starting to admire myself,” Ye Chen said after a narrow escape, feeling somewhat contemplative. It’s like getting old and suddenly feeling nostalgic about one’s youth. Perhaps not knowing when to bid farewell to this world, one tends to reminisce and become more sentimental, and added, “I feel myself growing more and more fond of reminiscing about the past.”

“Reminiscing about the past?”

“Yeah, about when I was a kid.”

“You’re reminiscing about your first trip to Immortal City?”

“Wow, how did you know? That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking about.” Ye Chen fell into thought and said, “If I hadn’t gone to Immortal City, none of what followed would have happened.”

“Then, your life would have been destined to end as a country bumpkin.”

Ye Chen laughed and said, “I never thought I’d hear someone else use the term ‘country bumpkin’.”

“I wonder how Little Hua is doing. She’s probably had several pups by now.”

“Little Hua? Who’s that?”

“She’d probably be a village girl by now. If I hadn’t left, that mutt would never have had a chance,” Ye Chen said, taking another bite of meat and washing it down with a swig of water.

“You really have some strange thoughts.”

Ye Chen continued, “Yeah, maybe I’d be an uneducated country bumpkin, but at least I wouldn’t be in such a sorry state now, not even sure how long I’ll live. It’s truly sad.”

“You really are getting sentimental.”

“Am I? I feel it too. Maybe it’s true that getting old makes you sentimental.”

“You’re hardly old enough to be saying that.”

“It’s not the flesh that’s getting old, but the heart. Who can withstand such turmoil?” Ye Chen said.

This guy always had a comeback. She challenged, “I see you’re still up for some mischief. We could find a few girls and have some fun together.”

“I can barely handle you, let alone bring in a few more women for fun. You must be joking.”

“So, you’ve decided to stay with me?”

“I never said that.”

“You can’t outlast me; you have to admit that,” Guo Yuyun said confidently, sensing his resistance weakening.

“Well, that might not be necessarily true. But I am indeed tired. I might only have a few months left, so better not to make a fuss and just enjoy life while I can.”
