Chapter 1360 - 1360 1346 Silly (19)
Chapter 1360: Chapter 1346: Silly (19) Chapter 1360: Chapter 1346: Silly (19) Who knows how long they had been walking, but it was certainly dark now. The woods, already somewhat gloomy, became even more sinister as night fell.
The sound of footsteps grew clearer, the occasional call of a monkey sending shivers down one’s spine.
After about four hours, suddenly two men appeared ahead, likely the two subordinates left behind to guard the cave entrance.
Meng Xiuluo asked, “Is the person still inside?”
Both subordinates nodded almost simultaneously.
Meng Xiuluo, leading the way, still felt some fear. At this moment, it was uncertain whether that guy was truly possessed by demons. If he was, none of their group of over twenty would likely leave alive.
The ability to fight that wretched woman in the afternoon was not because her martial arts were particularly strong, but because the Magic Power hadn’t fully taken control of his body. The wretched woman’s influence on him lessened the impact. If he were truly possessed, then the wretched woman would not be able to influence him, which means the Wolf King would essentially be under the control of the Magic Power.
That would be a very different situation.
Guo Yuyun followed behind her, and Meng Xiuluo, still somewhat scared, said, “You’ve been calling for her all day long. Since you’re so eager to meet her, you go ahead.”
Guo Yuyun said, “Your martial arts are better. It’s better for you to lead.”
“If he’s truly possessed, compared to him, no one’s martial arts will be good enough,” said Meng Xiuluo with a smile.
Entering the mouth of the cave, the inside appeared even more ominous, and despite carrying torches, it still felt very dark.
A ghastly wind seemed to sweep out from inside, chilling to the bone and causing goosebumps to rise.
Meng Xiuluo asked the two subordinates behind her, “Did you hear any strange noises afterward?”
The two subordinates, unsure of what she meant, glanced at each other.
Meng Xiuluo added, “I mean sounds like a monster, similar to the mournful howl of a ferocious wolf.”
“It seems not,” one of the taller men said.
“Seems? So you’re not certain!” She was trying to determine if the young man was possessed, and continued, “You need to think carefully. This is no joke. If you heard something, say it; if not, say no.”
After considering for a moment, one of the shorter men said, “There should be none.”
Guo Yuyun, who was listening, was clearly frightened.
“Well, that’s good. If there were wolf howls, it would indicate he might be possessed.”
Hearing Meng Xiuluo analyze the situation, Guo Yuyun seemed to feel a bit better.
But Meng Xiuluo threw a damper on her hopes, “That doesn’t prove anything, though. Maybe he’s just tired and doesn’t want to make a sound.”
“Can you stop talking nonsense?” Guo Yuyun did not like hearing her say that.
Meng Xiuluo said, “Even if you don’t want to admit it, you must. If he’s truly possessed, I advise you not to get close.”
Guo Yuyun knew the other was just scaring her, making fun of her fears.
“Let our hunting dogs go first,” Meng Xiuluo said.
Inside, the space was quite large, and the deeper they went, the more sinister it felt.
The hunting dogs seemed to pick up a scent and hurried forward.
The people behind were still a bit scared. Several of the seniors had been seriously injured by the last shockwave. If not for their profound strength, they would have died, so it was natural for them to be frightened.
“Hurry up and walk, you’ve been eager to see him; why are you hiding behind me now?” Meng Xiuluo said.
An indignant Guo Yuyun retorted, “Who’s hiding behind you?” and she quickened her pace.
Suddenly, the person leading the hunting dogs stopped.
They must have found something.
Meng Xiuluo stopped talking and hurriedly instructed the people behind her to walk lightly, so as not to startle him if he was indeed possessed.
Meng Xiuluo told those people to stay back and sneaked ahead with Guo Yuyun.
“Is it him?” Meng Xiuluo asked the man with the hunting dogs.
The man glanced ahead and nodded.
She also asked whether the person ahead had long hair or not, as if he had long hair, it would mean he had become the Wolf King; if not, there might still be a chance to save him.
“No long hair, his upper body is bare,” the young man replied.
Impatient, Guo Yuyun quickened her steps, turning from three steps into two, and soon spotted a person.
She quickly saw a man lying on a rock, his upper body naked and covered in pitch-black, like a dead corpse. Indeed, it was Ye Chen, and Guo Yuyun, no longer concerned with caution, rushed over.
“Hey, we haven’t confirmed he’s normal yet,” called Meng Xiuluo.
But Guo Yuyun wasn’t listening anymore; even if the man suddenly jumped up and snapped her neck, she wouldn’t regret it.
The hunting dogs were already dead in the corner, their bodies reduced to lumps of flesh, their blood congealed on the ground.
The surroundings bore many claw marks, some stones appeared to have been recently cleaved, as if struck by some giant axe, and bloodstains remained on the walls. It seemed the place had witnessed a fierce battle.
Guo Yuyun was still very cautious, not knowing whether he was dead or alive. She crouched down and extended a finger to check for his breath. His breath was still there, albeit weak. His body was covered in wounds, and he was injured. She had no idea how he had gotten like this.
There was a strong wet dog smell, and that ring was still around his neck.
“Is he dead?” Meng Xiuluo asked.
Guo Yuyun really didn’t like the way she asked. Meng Xiuluo seemed to have become much more timid, not approaching immediately. Guo Yuyun certainly wasn’t recklessly courageous; after all, he wasn’t her beloved.
Seeing his body full of wounds, and that face, not knowing which rock he had hit, was terribly heart-wrenching. Tears welled up and fell onto his body.
“I advise you to come back, he might have already succumbed to demonic possession,” Meng Xiuluo said.
Guo Yuyun ignored her, still being overly sentimental.
Suddenly, his eyes opened, followed by a reaction like that of a corpse brought back to life. He sprang up all at once, startling Guo Yuyun into tumbling backwards twice. She had already been a bit scared by what Meng Xiuluo had said, so how could she not be frightened when Ye Chen suddenly opened his eyes?
“Is it raining?” Ye Chen’s voice was somewhat hoarse. He touched his face, felt the tears, and licked one. It tasted salty.
Meng Xiuluo unsheathed her long sword and took a defensive stance.
Ye Chen gave a cold laugh, stretched lazily, and asked, “Is there any good food? I’m really hungry,” while patting his stomach.
After such a day’s ordeal, how could he not be hungry?
Guo Yuyun got up from the ground, confirmed he was acting normal, and threw herself at him like a tiger pouncing on a rabbit, not caring about the onlookers. She hugged Ye Chen tightly and burst into tears.
“Hey, there are others watching. Can you calm down a bit?” Ye Chen would have liked to push her away, but it was useless.
“Those tears just now, they were yours, weren’t they?” Ye Chen asked.
Meng Xiuluo, convinced he was behaving normally, put her sword back.
“Looks like it wasn’t easy for you,” she remarked, noticing many scratches on the walls.
Ye Chen called out, “Could someone give me a shirt? I’m still bare-chested. Although my physique is quite impressive, I don’t want to show it off to just anyone.”
Meng Xiuluo snorted coldly, “Who do you think you are? If someone gave you their clothes, what would they wear?”
“True, if someone took off their clothes to give to him, what would they wear?”
“Alright, girl, am I not still alive?” Ye Chen finally managed to pull off the vise-like hands.
“That you haven’t gone mad is a miracle,” Meng Xiuluo said, looking at the body of the hunting dog.
“Who thrust the Silver Needle?” Ye Chen asked.
“Of course, it was me. Was my aim accurate?” Meng Xiuluo inquired.
“Were you trying to make another hole in the back of my head?”
“Heh, when I threw it, if 80% hit the mark, that was already quite good.”
And really, the handful of Silver Needles she threw did help a lot. If they hadn’t worn him down first, and without the help of the Silver Needles, he might have really succumbed to demonic possession by now. It was a lucky misfortune.
Feeling like he had been fallen apart, Ye Chen wiped away Guo Yuyun’s tears and said, “Stop crying. I’m not dead yet. You can have a good cry when I’m gone.”
A slap landed right on his injured arm.
“My arm was just put back in place after being dislocated. Can’t you be a little more gentle with me?”
“You deserve it,” said Guo Yuyun.
Meng Xiuluo led the way out of the cave first.
Ye Chen looked at the hunting dog split in two, paused for a moment. Although he could not remember how he killed the dog, he was sure it was his doing. He said, “Do you understand why I didn’t want you to come near me? If you don’t listen, the dog’s fate could be yours.”
Guo Yuyun glared at Ye Chen.
“I’m telling the truth. When a person dies, there’s no difference from a dead hunting dog. It’s just two lumps of meat. At least the dog can be washed and cooked in a hot pot, but a dead person is gone for good.”
“Can you stop talking nonsense?”
“I’m not. What I’m saying are facts. I’m sure you don’t want to end up like that dog. Behave yourself and stay away from me, and you’ll live a long and healthy life.” Ye Chen followed behind Guo Yuyun.
Meng Xiuluo walked ahead of them.
“So, how could I possibly be with you?”
“Can’t you stop thinking all this nonsense?”
“Is this nonsense? It’s our reality. We have to admit, it’s very dangerous. Do you want me to live the rest of my life in regret?”
“I think you’re overthinking it.” Guo Yuyun had thought all this through since she decided to break up with Song Xizhi.
Shaking his head, Ye Chen said, “It seems the split dog didn’t scare you enough.”
“I will not leave you, no matter what happens in the future,” she declared firmly.
“You’re so silly.”
