Chapter 1315 - 1315 1301 Missing

Chapter 1315: Chapter 1301: Missing Chapter 1315: Chapter 1301: Missing Ye Chen ran over, and there it was, an open drawer beneath the cabinet, a spot no one would easily notice. A broken vase was stored inside the drawer, along with several severely dehydrated and wilted flowers.

The two exchanged glances.

They had been looking for Yun’er for the better part of the day, thinking she was hiding somewhere, upset. Who would have thought it would be like this? It was undeniable that a struggle had occurred here, a fight in Yun’er’s room. Without a doubt, Yun’er was involved, but who the other party was remained a mystery. However, one thing was for certain: Yun’er had lost. Had she been abducted by human traffickers? What could their motive be? Kidnapping for ransom was a possibility, and quite a likely one at that.

Clutching the jade in his hand tightly, Ye Chen ordered, “Get the innkeeper here immediately, and don’t forget the waiters and serving girls—don’t let a single one off the hook.”

Red Demonic Spirit nodded and left.

Ye Chen tapped his head, reproaching himself for his oversight. He had searched outside for an entire day and only now discovered these clues—such carelessness. He had lost an entire afternoon, and he hoped Yun’er was safe.

Someone must have broken into this room.

But who could it be? Was it really human traffickers? That was a possibility, considering how beautiful Yun’er was. It wouldn’t be surprising if she had caught someone’s eye.

Even if Yun’er had enemies, they wouldn’t follow her to Lotus Leaf Island, would they?

Could someone else have been involved in a fight here? But considering the found jade and Yun’er’s disappearance, it was easy to dismiss that idea.

The jade might have been accidentally dropped into a corner last night, but that was unlikely. It was more probable that it had been dropped during the fight. In the midst of a struggle, losing something was definitely plausible. Besides, except when drunk, Yun’er wasn’t the type to do anything to make herself look foolish. And now, it was past midnight and she hadn’t returned, which increased the likelihood of her involvement in a fight.

Proving whether it was Yun’er or not wasn’t particularly difficult, though.

Before long, Red Demonic Spirit brought the innkeeper and several serving girls, along with the waiters.

“Innkeeper, do you remember the young lady who stayed in this room?” Ye Chen asked.

If it had been someone ordinary-looking, they might not have caught attention, but a beautiful woman, with a distinct aura from the Central Plains, different from the island’s beauties, would stand out. “I remember; why do you ask?”

“Did you see her return today?” Ye Chen first wanted to confirm if Yun’er had come back.

The innkeeper shook his head and replied, “There were too many people today; I really can’t recall.”

Then, a waiter from the side said, “Around the time the sun was three poles high, I saw her return.”

Ye Chen looked at the portly waiter and asked, “Are you sure?”

The waiter explained, “Last night, that girl got drunk and vomited all over the place; I was the one who cleaned it up, so my impression of her is quite vivid.”

“That’s right, I even apologized to you then.”

“Yes, and she was indeed very beautiful, but she acted more like a boy. She seemed in a foul mood when I nearly ran into her carrying dishes. I was lucky to dodge, but she surged past me, not even apologizing, and went straight upstairs.”

“Did you see her enter her room?”

“No, I didn’t pay attention to whether she went back to her room. I had to keep serving dishes; I only saw her go upstairs.”

Suddenly, a short-statured serving girl, as if recalling something, said, “That’s right, I remember this morning there was a loud noise from the room, like something shattering.”

“A loud noise.” Yes, it must have been the sound of the vase breaking, Ye Chen asked, “Was it the sound of a vase breaking that you heard?”

“I can’t be sure, it could have been a dish too.”

Ye Chen looked around and asked, “None of you heard anything?”

The people exchanged glances, with most saying they hadn’t noticed anything. The innkeeper commented, “With the constant flow of people in the morning, even if something broke, it wouldn’t attract attention.”

“I think I did hear something since I was on the second floor, so I could hear it,” a somewhat plump girl said.

The short serving girl added, “That’s right, the two of us heard it, and we even asked each other if we had heard anything. Downstairs, with the cooking and the noisy drinking, people may not have noticed, but we on the second floor could hear it.”

Surprised, Ye Chen said, “Both of you heard the sound of something shattering, and you didn’t go check?”

The plump girl replied, “Afterward, we decided that I would go. I went to the room and knocked, asking if they needed any help.”

Ye Chen asked, “Did anyone reply?”

“A girl’s voice responded, saying that she had accidentally broken a cup.”

“And you didn’t go in to check?”

“I offered to come in and help with the situation.”

Continuing, the plump girl said, “The girl inside responded and said it was just a cup and she could handle it herself, that there was no need to trouble me.”

Astonished, Ye Chen said, “You didn’t suspect anything? That was a broken vase, not a cup. Is the sound of breaking a cup the same as that of a vase?” pointing towards the open drawer.

The plump girl admitted, “Of course, I had my suspicions, but we are only serving girls; we can’t just barge in based on suspicion. However, I did stand outside and listen for a while to verify there were no more sounds before leaving.”

“Didn’t you go downstairs to inform the innkeeper?”

“At that time, the shopkeeper was busy managing the front of house, and there were many people going in and out,”

The shopkeeper quickly said, “Yes, there were particularly many people coming and going, they were either eating or checking out, and we were almost too busy to cope.”

“Did you then confirm that there was no sound?” Ye Chen asked the slightly plump maid.

“No, there was no sound, nor anyone talking.”

“Was the girl’s voice that was talking sharp or deep? Can you judge her age?”

“She should be around twenty, but, you remind me—actually, come to think of it, her voice was a bit deep, with a neutral tone.”

“Are you sure?”

The slightly plump maid said, “Regarding the voice, if it’s ordinary and doesn’t have any particular features, people might not remember it, but a somewhat neutral tone would unconsciously leave a deep impression.”

Ye Chen nodded repeatedly and said, “Yes, you’re right.”

The customers outside were already calling out, probably looking for the waiter, so the shopkeeper sent a waiter downstairs.

Ye Chen quickly asked again, “Did any of you see that girl leaving?”

The people looked at each other and shook their heads in succession.

“Then, has anyone seen others enter this room?”

They were still shaking their heads.

At this point, Ye Chen could almost confirm that Yun’er must have been kidnapped, because her voice wasn’t neutral, and among those who kidnapped her, there must be a young girl with a neutral voice.

Ye Chen then asked, “Shopkeeper, do you have any girl around twenty years old in the inn, with a slightly deep and neutral voice?”

The shopkeeper shook his head and said, “I really don’t recall.”

“You can’t be serious, you’re at the counter and don’t have any memory of her?”

The doubt in his voice made the middle-aged shopkeeper a bit uncomfortable, but from the attire, he could guess that the young man asking was some kind of leader, who had arrived yesterday with a group of people that seemed to all be martial artists. Although he was somewhat impatient, he dared not complain. It was best to be as polite as possible on these islands, for one’s own benefit. He said, “It isn’t always me at the counter; sometimes it’s our lady boss.”

Ye Chen pondered that there should be some memory of her and said, “Then, may I meet the lady boss?”

“You may,” the shopkeeper then asked, “And these people?”

“You all can go back first, if there’s anything, I’ll come find you,” Ye Chen apologetically said, “I’m sorry for the trouble, but the maid who stayed in this room has gone missing, and there are clear signs of a struggle. That broken vase was hidden in the cupboard.”

The shopkeeper quickly nodded and said, “If there’s anything you need, just let me know.” Then he led the group away, dispersing them all.

Red Demonic Spirit said, “It seems Yun’er has been kidnapped.”

“That’s right, and the one who had the conversation with the maid in the room wasn’t Yun’er.”

Red Demonic Spirit nodded and said, “Yes, Yun’er’s voice isn’t neutral or deep.”

“She must have been captured by that time.”

“Then who could have kidnapped her?”

“On this kind of desolate island, there are many men without wives. Seeing how beautiful Yun’er is, it’s very possible that traffickers have spotted her.”

Red Demonic Spirit was shocked and said, “Then Yun’er is in danger.”

“You should quickly have someone inquire about whether there’s any trafficker organization on this island.”

Red Demonic Spirit was stunned for a moment, then said, “Could it be beyond traffickers, like flower-thieves and the like.”

Ye Chen looked at him and said, “Flower-thieves, are there female ones as well?”

“That’s true, but the girl mentioned a voice that was somewhat neutral; could it be a man disguising his voice as a woman’s?”

“It’s possible, but it must be an extremely urgent situation to disguise a male voice as a female’s so suddenly, which would be somewhat difficult.”

“So it’s unlikely to be flower-thieves.”

“Forget it, just inquire about it all, most importantly about traffickers, especially those who abduct young girls,” Ye Chen said. Recently, there indeed hadn’t been a shortage of news about the kidnapping of young girls, and it happened quite frequently.

Ye Chen reflected that if she was really kidnapped, it would be terrible. He then said, “Send someone to the seashore to check those ships that set out.” He didn’t know what else could be done.

Seeing Ye Chen’s urgency, Red Demonic Spirit said, “I’ll go right away.”

Ye Chen nodded.

It wasn’t long before the lady boss came. She was a woman in her thirties with a prosperous look about her. She seemed to have learned of the situation from the shopkeeper and appeared anxious and hard-pressed to believe the events were real.
