Chapter 1130 - 1130 1116 Entering the Cave
Chapter 1130: Chapter 1116: Entering the Cave Chapter 1130: Chapter 1116: Entering the Cave Silver Fox led those two hundred-plus people to meet with Yin Qi.
Though Yin Qi felt annoyed, he didn’t show it, because he knew there was no need; however, he couldn’t fully trust Silver Fox anymore. If Silver Fox could abandon Pan Jianglong, he could just as well abandon him.
Excited, Silver Fox spoke, “You made it out, thank heavens!”
“Ah, I was just lucky enough to escape,” Yin Qi said softly.
“You don’t blame me, do you? I really had no other choice at the time. If it were possible, how could I not go back to save people? It was truly a last resort,” Silver Fox said earnestly, clearly embarrassed.
Yin Qi replied, “If you were going to flee, you should have let us know.” Although he didn’t openly reprimand him, not saying something wouldn’t have been right either.
Silver Fox quickly said, “I sent someone to tell you all to retreat and look out for yourselves first.”
Yin Qi sneered, “I never saw anyone from your side come to tell me that.”
Frantically, Silver Fox replied, “Perhaps that guy got killed on the way, please don’t blame me for it.”
“Ah, given the urgency of the situation then, what else could be done? We could only look out for ourselves. The boss wasn’t as lucky as us, he got singled out and there was nothing that could be done about it.”
Silver Fox immediately said, “Don’t worry, I will certainly avenge our boss.” He pondered that he still needed to cooperate with Yin Qi—who, besides leading another two hundred people, had a more agile mind and paid better attention to detail than he did.
“That vengeance is a must. The boss held them off so that we could escape from there,”
“Indeed, damn Shangguan Wudi, we should have killed him when we had the chance. If we had taken him out, none of this would have happened, what a pity,” Silver Fox lamented.
“Ah, let us not talk about that now; we should carefully consider our next steps,” Yin Qi said.
“Right, we are still brothers. As long as we join forces, we will certainly have a chance. Once we get the Sacred Spirit Stone, we’ll be able to avenge our boss,” Silver Fox fantasized.
Yin Qi nodded in agreement, “Mm, revenge is a must. Whatever happens, we’re good brothers. The boss’s death is in the past now; we need to come together.”
Silver Fox continued, “I found out they’re heading to Sacred Spirit Mountain to get the Sacred Spirit Stone. Even though our entrance here is blocked, both you and I know that there’s a secret passage that leads to the western cliff of Sacred Spirit Mountain.”
Yin Qi nodded, thinking the same.
Again Silver Fox said, “We must cooperate. Only by joining forces do we stand a chance of success.”
Yin Qi said softly, “Of course, otherwise, why would I have come to see you?”
“You’re not angry with me, are you?”
“We’re brothers. Given how chaotic things were, it’s understandable to feel afraid. If we want to turn the tables, we must get our hands on the Sacred Spirit Stone.”
Agreeing, Silver Fox nodded and said, “Right, right now we may only have four hundred people, but if we can secure the Sacred Spirit Stone, many will heed its call and join us directly. Then we’ll be able to use the Sacred Spirit Stone to defeat them, avenge our boss and eliminate that damned Shangguan Wudi.”
Yin Qi said, “Brother, don’t say too much now. I know that Shao Hengjiang is leading a big group to Sacred Spirit Mountain. If we don’t set off soon, by the time we get there, they’ll have already taken the Sacred Spirit Stone.”
Hurriedly, Silver Fox said, “Exactly. We must depart immediately, no delays.” He called out to the people behind him and led Yin Qi into the cabin, adding, “We can discuss the rest at leisure.”
Yin Qi, skilled at concealing his thoughts, responded, “Good, I would like to have a drink.”
“I always knew you, the third brother, could make it out,” said Silver Fox.
“I suppose I’m just lucky; heaven doesn’t want me yet,” Yin Qi replied.
“I really sent someone to tell you to retreat,” Silver Fox reiterated.
“I believe you. I know what kind of person you, Second Brother, are. It’s likely the messenger was killed on his way back,” Yin Qi said.
Coldly, Silver Fox said, “Who would have thought that damned Shangguan Wudi would team up with Shao Hengjiang’s men? Otherwise, how could they have beaten us?”
“Everything was chaotic at that moment.”
The night was pitch-black.
Ouyang Yue also came over and saw the two sitting by the fire.
Turning her head, Nangong Yan said, “Sister Ouyang Yue, come over quickly. We’ve got something delicious.”
Ouyang Yue replied, “I thought you two were frolicking in the water; I was worried about disturbing you.” Since Nangong Yan had left, more than two hours had passed without any sign of her return, and Ouyang Yue was genuinely concerned that some creature might have appeared in the pond. Unable to hold back any longer, she came over.
Ye Chen turned around and smiled, “What a pity, we’ve already finished playing in the water. If you had come earlier, you could have joined us.”
Nangong Yan playfully hit Ye Chen and rebuked, “Can you stop talking nonsense?”
Curious, Ouyang Yue asked, “What delicacy are you making?”
Nangong Yan answered, “Beggar’s Chicken, come on over. It’s truly delicious.”
“It must not be that tasty if you didn’t come back to call me,” Ouyang Yue remarked, but indeed, she could smell the rich aroma of chicken.
“I was just about to go back and call you,” Nangong Yan said.
Ouyang Yue took a seat next to them, and Nangong Yan tore off a piece of chicken leg for her.
Ouyang Yue inquired, “Did you cook this, Monkey?”
Ye Chen laughed, “Do you really think this girl knows how to cook?”
Ouyang Yue cracked a slight smile.
The surroundings became quieter and quieter, and the cold air kept invading, making everyone add a couple more pieces of firewood to the fire to make it burn more vigorously.
Ouyang Yue said, “I didn’t interrupt your conversation, did I?”
“There wasn’t much to our chat, just the same few words back and forth,” came the reply.
Ouyang Yue smiled, “It’s really quite delicious, but there’s only one. I’m not quite satisfied yet.”
Nangong Yan said, “There’s still another one which we can open now.” As she spoke, she glanced at Ye Chen, who nodded in agreement.
Soon, the second Beggar’s Chicken was opened, and this time, without any help from Ye Chen. Nangong Yan struck it with a rock, cracking it open directly. In that moment, a tantalizing aroma burst forth as though it had been stewing for years, and mixed with the scent of the lotus leaves, the fragrance grew stronger and stronger.
Before they knew it, it was midnight, and they all went back to sleep. Ye Chen found a spot where he could lean back to rest. Thankfully there was a mountain cave; many people huddled inside to avoid the dew of the woods, which could make for an uncomfortable night. If drenched by the dew all night, the next day would undoubtedly be especially tiring, and Ye Chen certainly didn’t want that.
All fell quiet, save for the fire that continued to burn. Nangong Yan leaned close to Ye Chen, who held an unfinished bamboo flute in his hands.
“You should get some sleep,” Nangong Yan urged.
Ye Chen didn’t respond to her, continuing his work on the flute.
The wood in the fire popped and cracked, sounding much like little firecrackers.
A sliver of moonlight filtered through the cave entrance, casting its light upon Ye Chen’s face.
“You really are worried about that girl getting married, aren’t you?” Nangong Yan just couldn’t help but ask.
“No,” Ye Chen replied.
“I overheard your conversation.”
Ye Chen let out a light chuckle and continued to work on the flute.
“To be honest, what do you think of me as a person?” she asked.
“Do you want me to say you’re good, or that you’re foolish?”
“Hey, can you not put me down like that?”
Ye Chen chuckled, “You’re alright, just a bit impulsive. If you were to calm down and think things through when you’re doing something, it would be better. Otherwise, it could lead to trouble sooner or later.”
Nangong Yan glared at Ye Chen.
Ye Chen added, “Seriously, you got lucky this time, running into your own father. Next time you might not be so fortunate. You can’t always expect to be that lucky.”
Nangong Yan pouted, “I don’t want to talk about this with you. All I want to know is what you think of how I’ve treated you.”
Ye Chen glanced at her and remarked, “I haven’t noticed much.”
“Forget it, talking with you is pointless.”
Ye Chen heard this and just smiled.
By morning, the fog gradually lifted.
Guan Xun came over, greeted Nangong Yao, who asked, “What’s happening?”
“They really did have some people on Sacred Spirit Mountain, but they’ve left. I think they might know about Pan Jianglong’s death,” Guan Xun replied.
Nangong Yao nodded, then said, “We can’t be careless. Even though they’ve left, that doesn’t necessarily mean all of them are gone. What if they’ve set up an ambush on the mountain?”
Ouyang Yue said, “Wan Liyun is blocking the sea route, Silver Fox and Yin Qi won’t be able to make it to the shore.”
Yet Nangong Yao was still cautious, “We absolutely can’t let our guard down.” He then asked Guan Xun, “You didn’t find any members of the Sacred Spirit Sect, did you?”
Guan Xun answered, “No, they’re probably all dead.”
“If that’s the case, then that’s for the best.”
The team kept moving forward, already entering Sacred Spirit Mountain. There was a huge cave there, sculpted by the magnificent hand of nature, with passageways crisscrossing in all directions, comparable to a magnified wasp nest.
Ye Chen followed them into the cave, feeling a bit frightened. The deeper they went, the darker it became, and they lit torches to see.
Shao Hengjiang sent people ahead to scout.
Ye Chen shook his head and said, “I don’t think it’s a good idea for such a big group to go in like this.”
Nangong Yan, who was beside Ye Chen, heard this and said, “You’re not thinking of giving up, are you?”
“I mean, an attack could come at any moment,” he replied.
“Nonsense, we have scouts ahead. Any abnormality will be quickly detected,” she insisted.
Ye Chen responded with a cold smile, “It’s not so easy to detect.”
“Don’t scare us,” she chided.
“I’m serious. I’d rather stay outside. If something were to happen inside, you could very well end up buried alive.”
