Chapter 1129 - 1129 1115 The Invisible Danger
Chapter 1129: Chapter 1115: The Invisible Danger Chapter 1129: Chapter 1115: The Invisible Danger Hearing Hai Jingtian’s analysis,
Qiandu Xiang suddenly smiled faintly and said, “As long as they come for the Sacred Spirit Stone, I’ve been waiting for them.”
Gu Feng said, “I will immediately send a pigeon to inform Baili He to bring the ships over.”
“Good, make sure they aren’t discovered,” Qiandu Xiang believed that a great misfortune survived must herald future blessings.
Qiandu Ao became much calmer as well.
Hai Jingtian said, “Nangong Yao will definitely be careless now, with Pan Jianglong’s people gone, it’s our perfect opportunity. We must seize the time to prepare thoroughly and catch them off guard; we can certainly snatch the Sacred Spirit Stone.”
Qiandu Xiang said, “I want every detail clarified, leaving no stone unturned in understanding our surroundings.”
Hai Jingtian nodded and then withdrew.
Qiandu Xiang sneered and said, “It’s not about how many people we have, as long as we have enough. They think they’ve won? They haven’t seen what I’m capable of, and I haven’t given my consent yet.”
Qiandu Ao felt some newfound confidence, and seeing Qiandu Xiang like this, he too became excited and said, “Good, we’ll take them on. It’s not yet certain whose game it will be.”
Shao Hengjiang and Nangong Yao, having joined forces to defeat Pan Jianglong, had secured the situation and could now proceed to Sacred Spirit Island without further concerns. They decided to take four hundred men with them.
Too many people would not be useful. He needed to leave enough behind to watch this area, fearing that someone might land on the island. A month had passed since the resurgence of Xiyue Island, and the news must surely have spread everywhere; some island masters might be heading this way.
Ye Chen would certainly be participating as well.
Nangong Yan had been suppressing her feelings for many days, and today she finally felt relieved, not having to worry about ambushes. After passing through the devastated area with collapsed cliffs and mudslides, her eyes widened in shock, asserting, “Qiandu Xiang couldn’t possibly have survived that.”
Ye Chen said, “Don’t be so arrogant; we must be cautious with troublesome matters.”
“You are just too cautious, to the point of paranoia,” Nangong Yan teased.
Ye Chen scoffed and said, “Maybe so.”
“With everything collapsed like this, how could anyone still be alive?” Nangong Yan remarked.
“That’s just what you think. No matter how bad it gets, there are always those who survive.” Ye Chen followed the large group, steadily moving forward, quickly passing through the devastated area.
Shao Hengjiang remained very cautious, which was why he had brought four hundred people along. Even though Pan Jianglong had been eliminated, there were still remnants. Not knowing their exact number, he dared not be careless.
Ouyang Yue gazed at the ruins, hoping Qiandu Xiang was buried underneath. Although she couldn’t take his life with her own hands, it would serve as revenge, allowing her to bid farewell to her godfather and Si Nanyu in heaven.
Nangong Yan tugged at Ouyang Yue and said, “Sister, what are you mulling over?” while holding the roasted meat.
“I still regret not being able to kill Qiandu Xiang myself,” Ouyang Yue admitted.
Knowing how oppressed Ouyang Yue had felt recently, Nangong Yan said, “Don’t be sad; we’ll be by your side.”
“It’s okay, don’t worry, I’m fine now.”
Nangong Yao called from ahead, “We’re going to stop and rest ahead.”
Before they knew it, another day had gone by.
Ye Chen found a lotus pond ahead, took a bath, and caught two wild chickens with the Black Demonic Spirit’s help. He had scarcely wrapped them in lotus leaves and coated them with mud before making a fire, to create Beggar’s Chicken.
After searching for a long while, Nangong Yan hadn’t found Ye Chen and approached Ouyang Yue, asking, “Where’s that monkey?” while carrying the roasted meat.
“He said he wanted to go wash up in the pond,” Ouyang Yue responded.
Nangong Yan puzzled, “He still hasn’t come back?”
“I haven’t seen him return, anyway.”
“You must be joking. Bathing doesn’t take more than two hours.”
Ouyang Yue, sensing Nangong Yan’s urgency, joked, “Maybe he met some fairy.”
“I’m afraid he’s encountered a monster,” Nangong Yan grew even more curious and stood up.
“You’re going to look for him? He’s stripped, bathing, and you’re not afraid?”
Nangong Yan blushed but couldn’t relax until she had checked; if something had happened to him, what then? As her worry mounted, she said, “I have to go see for myself what takes him two hours to wash.”
Ouyang Yue laughed and remarked, “Go ahead, you’ll catch him just in time. Anyway, you’re already thinking about marrying someone else, so you shouldn’t be afraid.”
“Don’t talk nonsense. There’s nothing like that.” Nangong Yan’s face reddened further. Truly concerned for the other’s safety and ignoring Ouyang Yue’s teasing, she headed towards the pond.
The glow of sunset was about to vanish, and the surroundings were deathly quiet.
Ye Chen tended a fire and asked, “Red Demonic Spirit, do you miss that girl?”
“Who?”
“Guo Yuyun, don’t play dumb.”
“What do I have to miss? For all I know, she could’ve been married by now. I’m not worried about her getting married, but I fear she might think you’re dead and take her own life.” The Black Demonic Spirit wasn’t very familiar with Yun’er, but had heard quite a bit about Guo Yuyun.
“Shut your crow’s mouth,” Ye Chen continued, “Lately, I don’t know why, but I keep thinking of her.”
“What are you thinking about her? You want to tell me that you might have fallen for her and can’t forget her,” Red Demonic Spirit twirled around.
The setting sun cast slanted beams of light, bathing everything in red.
Ye Chen remained silent for a moment before replying, “I don’t know; I think it’s more about my concern for her.” Even though he had left, he knew that the girl genuinely cared for him—this was undeniably true.
“And then what? You want to tell me that if things get better, you’ll go back to find her, right?”
“Maybe,” Ye Chen mused, “life is too short for people. You never know how much you’ve missed out on, but finding someone who truly cares for you and living a simple life with them is pretty good. There’s no need to think so much about everything else.” The words he spoke were from his heart, and he did not know if it was because he was truly tired, but suddenly, he just started thinking this way. Perhaps defeating Pan Jianglong had given him hope, and these past days he had even dreamt of Guo Yuyun.
“As long as you’re clear about it, that’s good. Hesitation is what I fear most for you.”
“I don’t like to hesitate either,” Ye Chen added a couple of logs to the fire.
The glow of the evening sky faded, and there was still some time left.
“Maybe she’s already married,” Black Demonic Spirit sneered.
Ye Chen too smiled faintly.
“Is it really so impossible? Even her sister liked you, but in the end, she married someone else. Anything can happen, and thinking about it now is pointless,” Black Demonic Spirit said.
Ye Chen laughed, “She wouldn’t be in such a rush.”
But Black Demonic Spirit retorted, “She thought you were dead. Do you expect her to stay a widow for you? Don’t kid yourself. At most, after three months, three months, all promises turn into lies. I know this all too well; promises are idealistic, all the talk about loving each other so much it hurts—it’s all bullshit. In a person’s life, it all comes down to the mundane details.”
Red Demonic Spirit laughed by the side.
Ye Chen glanced at Black Demonic Spirit and said, “The way you talk, it’s like you understand it all.”
Black Demonic Spirit scoffed, “What’s there to understand? Isn’t it simple! Just like you said, we are indeed insignificant compared to the world. We’re so small, we might be less than a grain of sand. A grain of sand will always exist, but eventually, people die and then there’s nothing left, so we’re worse off than a grain of sand.”
“Don’t preach so much to me,” Ye Chen called out.
“Right, those are all grand principles, but I know when it’s time to enjoy life, just enjoy it. Everything else is a waste of life. Love, just listen to it, but never take it seriously. If you do, it will cause you great pain.”
Nangong Yan, who had walked over, heard this and said, “Don’t listen to Black Demonic Spirit’s nonsense. I still believe in love.”
“Of course you do, which makes you foolish,” Black Demonic Spirit replied.
“You’re the fool.”
“Only fools believe in love, only the naive truly believe it.”
After hearing Black Demonic Spirit’s words, Nangong Yan became defiant, exclaiming, “I think you’ve been hurt by love, that’s why you’re so cynical.”
At that, Red Demonic Spirit started to laugh.
Anxious, Nangong Yan asked, “Red Demonic Spirit, I’m right, aren’t I?”
Black Demonic Spirit glared at Red Demonic Spirit, who didn’t dare to speak.
“I guessed right, didn’t I? In this life, if we don’t have some beautiful aspirations, how can we succeed? We need to believe in love,” Nangong Yan said.
“Sooner or later, you’ll get hurt, and it will be severe, to the point where you’ll never believe again,” Black Demonic Spirit spoke.
“I don’t know about that, but I won’t end up like you,” she replied.
“Just wait until you come back to grieve slowly, silly girl,” Black Demonic Spirit said coldly.
Not wanting to bother with him, Nangong Yan looked at Ye Chen, who was digging out two large mud clumps from under the fire and said, “What are you cooking? Aren’t you hungry? I’ve been looking for you half the day; I even thought the water monster had grabbed you.”
Ye Chen turned around and replied, “I thought you were sneaking a peek at me bathing.”
Nangong Yan slapped him.
Ye Chen couldn’t dodge in time.
“What are you cooking?” Nangong Yan inquired.
“Beggar’s Chicken. Have you ever tried it?”
“You mean there’s a chicken in the mud?”
“Yes,” Ye Chen answered.
“Is it tasty?”
“I don’t know, but it will take a while longer to cook.”
Nangong Yan found a spot to sit down opposite him and asked, “What were you all talking about?”
“Don’t worry; we weren’t talking about you,” Black Demonic Spirit said.
“Buzz off, climb up a tree. Don’t disturb us,” Nangong Yan called out.
Black Demonic Spirit snatched a piece of meat she had brought and left.
