Chapter 1123 - 1123 1109 Shangguan Wudi
Chapter 1123: Chapter 1109: Shangguan Wudi Chapter 1123: Chapter 1109: Shangguan Wudi Originally, Xiyue Island was split into two factions, whose leaders were Shangguan Wudi and Pan Jianglong. Initially, they were evenly matched, but through unscrupulous means, Pan Jianglong slowly gained the upper hand and suppressed Shangguan Wudi. However, Shangguan Wudi did not accept Pan Jianglong’s dominance, as Pan Jianglong was a dark and unprincipled man, so the rivalry between them persisted.
After Shangguan Wudi was captured, Pan Jianglong did not kill him because he wanted his followers to submit, but Shangguan Wudi never agreed. So, Pan Jianglong locked him up. Unexpectedly, Ye Chen rescued him. Shangguan Wudi was very grateful and he also noticed that this young man’s martial arts were quite impressive.
Ye Chen hastily paid his respects to the elder.
“So the seal on Xiyue Island has been broken, right?” He had not seen this young man before, but in the past few days, he had heard that people from the Sacred Spirit Sect had arrived, and he somewhat couldn’t believe it.
“Yes, the seal on Xiyue Island has indeed been broken. You’re not going to fight us to the death, are you? I’m not with the Sacred Spirit Sect. It was they who imprisoned you on Xiyue Island.”
Hearing this, Shangguan Wudi gave a faint smile and said, “Don’t worry, I am not an ungrateful person. You saved my life, and I will keep that in my heart.”
“You don’t need to.”
Shangguan Wudi said, “We should hurry, they might catch up to us.”
“Where should we go?”
Shangguan Wudi replied, “Our people are nearby.”
Ye Chen, it being his first time here and not knowing where to go, glanced at Ouyang Yue and asked, “Should we follow them?”
“We should go look for the Elder Uncle and the others.”
“We’re in unfamiliar territory here, and with it being the middle of the night, where do we even start to look for people? I can’t even distinguish north from south, let’s just wait for dawn,” Ye Chen was unaware of their whereabouts.
Ouyang Yue looked around and indeed did not know in which direction Nangong Yao and the others could be.
“Don’t rush, going back now would be pointless; you could be captured again at any moment.” Ye Chen was extremely tired and believed it was somewhat safer to follow that group. He added, “If you’re caught again, Silver Fox definitely won’t spare you.”
Shangguan Wudi stated, “If you trust us, follow us back first, and I will help you find them later.”
Ye Chen was overjoyed and said, “Then I really owe you thanks.” He certainly didn’t trust Shangguan Wudi that easily. It was because of the burly men he had caught the other day that he knew what kind of person Shangguan Wudi was, which is why he dared to follow them.
“No need, you saved me, I haven’t yet properly thanked you.”
These past few days, Ye Chen had come to understand that Pan Jianglong was too domineering, wanting to control Xiyue Island by himself, and Shangguan Wudi, refusing to submit, opposed him at every turn.
Ye Chen decided to follow Shangguan Wudi to their stronghold.
At the edge of a cliff, they stopped, and upon climbing the cliff, he learned that indeed a large group of people lived there; several hundred of them, almost like savages, resided atop the cliff.
When those people saw Shangguan Wudi’s return, they were thrilled and came over to pay their respects. Shangguan Wudi introduced Ye Chen and Ouyang Yue to them.
The two were settled into a cave dwelling.
Exhausted, Ye Chen said, “Don’t disturb me now, I’m really sleepy.” It was the fourth watch; if he didn’t sleep now, dawn would break.
The night passed without resolution.
Guan Xun led his men in search of Pan Jianglong’s stronghold and had just returned.
Seeing Guan Xun back, Nangong Yao hastily approached and asked, “Have you figured out the situation around here?”
To attack Pan Jianglong’s stronghold, they needed to grasp the details of the surroundings first. Guan Xun gulped down most of a bag of water and said, “I don’t know what happened at their stronghold, but they were fighting in the middle of the night.”
Nangong Yan inquired, “What do you mean?”
Guan Xun explained, “We were a step late. When we got there, it was chaos. Pan Jianglong was leading a big group searching for someone in the woods. Later, I caught two of their lackeys who told me that someone had escaped from the dungeon.”
Nangong Yan became even more puzzled and asked, “Was it Ye Chen and his group?”
“We don’t know yet, it could have been their doing. They said Silver Fox was taken hostage, and then everyone in the cages got away.”
Nangong Yan pondered for a moment and said, “If Ouyang Yue was captured, she would definitely be in the dungeon. If someone escaped from there, there’s a good chance she escaped too.”
Guan Xun thought the same and said, “Yes, maybe Ouyang Yue has also gotten away.”
Jiu Hu commented, “If that’s the case, we don’t need to hurry in searching for Pan Jianglong’s men.”
Nangong Yao instructed, “Go and find out more details; see if you can get a clearer picture.”
Guan Xun responded, “Don’t worry, I’ll find out as soon as possible.”
Nangong Yan broke out in a cold sweat; she hadn’t slept all of last night, worrying about the tortures Ye Chen and Ouyang Yue might be enduring. It seems it was a false alarm.
But it was too astonishing. Could all of this really be Ye Chen’s doing? And how did he accomplish it?
To know what happened, they could only wait for them to come back and tell the story.
Nangong Yao went to Shao Hengjiang and said, “If this is true, we can take a break.”
Shao Hengjiang agreed with Nangong Yao’s words.
Feeling increasingly certain that Ye Chen was behind the incident, Nangong Yan hoped that they had all managed to escape.
Li Mo hurried over and asked, “I heard that last night someone kidnapped Silver Fox and released the people from the dungeon. Is that true?”
Nangong Yan replied, “Yes, it is true. I just heard from Guan Xun. Guan Xun arrived a step too late; by the time he got there, everyone had scattered. It’s still not certain whether it was Monkey’s doing.”
Li Mo nodded in acknowledgment.
“Hey, don’t worry. If they’ve escaped, they’ll surely come back to find us.”
Only then did Li Mo breathe a sigh of relief.
The sun had already climbed up, and the mist in the Canyon slowly dissipated. Birds came out in flocks to look for food, making the Canyon livelier. Ye Chen slowly opened his eyes—it really was like a paradise on earth. Standing at the cliff’s edge, looking down at the Canyon, still shrouded in a lingering mist that slowly cleared under the sunlight.
He had not expected such a place to exist in the human world.
A ray of sunlight broke through and fell upon Ouyang Yue’s face. She slowly opened her eyes as if disturbed.
The door to the room was knocked. Ye Chen hurried to open it, and a girl dressed in a white gown, carrying food in her hands, walked in. She placed the food on the table and said, “If you need anything else, just let me know,” before she withdrew.
The locals here, for the most part, dressed in the same fashion: white gowns that, despite their simplicity, were vibrant and full of life.
Ouyang Yue quickly got up and said, “We need to find my martial uncle quickly; they might rashly attack Pan Jianglong.” She feared they would fall into someone else’s trap.
“Hey, let’s fill our stomachs first. Nangong Yao and Shao Hengjiang are not impulsive people.” He still had faith in these two.
Ouyang Yue pondered for a moment.
“Only I would rush in to rescue you at the risk of danger.”
“Does that mean I should offer my body in gratitude?”
Ye Chen chuckled and said, “That won’t be necessary; just having the intention is enough.”
Ouyang Yue muttered, “We still need to figure out a way to find my martial uncle. They don’t yet know we’ve been rescued, and they might head there to kill someone.” She knew that today, there would be boats coming over, and perhaps her martial uncle would act against Pan Jianglong prematurely to save her.
Ye Chen ate the food.
After Shangguan Wudi returned, his subordinates came flocking in, and following a discussion, Shangguan Wudi learned of the situation—that a large group of people had arrived on Xiyue Island.
The feud between Shangguan Wudi and Pan Jianglong dated back many years, neither side yielding to the other. The hatred grew deeper over the years; Pan Jianglong was unscrupulous. Ever since he had been captured, his people had suffered substantial blows, weakening day by day, until they had to reside atop the cliffs.
He had never expected so many events to unfold in such a short time.
Suddenly, his assistant suggested, “Should we join forces with the people who have entered?” With their current strength, it was impossible to be a match for Pan Jianglong; however, if they wanted revenge, that could be considered.
Another man said, “You want to ally with newcomers, but they don’t even know who we are. How can we trust them?”
Hearing this, the assistant replied, “I think that young man must be related to those who arrived on the island. We could use him to form an alliance with Nangong Yao and Shao Hengjiang. Perhaps they will help us; they’ve suffered a lot recently too and want to deal with Pan Jianglong.”
“Don’t know if those two young ones really possess such capability.”
The assistant said, “We should at least consult about it. We should seize this opportunity to eliminate Pan Jianglong. Then, Xiyue Island will be ours. It’s a rare opportunity.”
Shangguan Wudi listened intently.
“Don’t just seal Xiyue Island for others, forcing us to stay here for a hundred years,” the big man said apprehensively.
“All this, we need to discuss clearly with the people who have entered the island.”
“I don’t think we should discuss with them. If there’s a chance, we should take the Sacred Spiritual Stone for ourselves.”
The assistant cracked a slight smile and said, “I don’t want it. I just want to get out of this godforsaken place as soon as possible so we’re not sealed in again.”
Someone else spoke up, “Let’s settle our deep-seated grudge with Pan Jianglong first.”
Ye Chen was finishing his meal.
Two people walked in, the one in front was the old man from last night who had proclaimed himself Shangguan Wudi. However, he had cleaned himself up now, tidied his beard, and looked much more like a grandmaster with well-kept hair.
Upon arrival, Shangguan Wudi asked with concern, “How’s the food?”
Ouyang Yue said, “We want to go down the cliff.”
“Okay, but I really want to know if you’re planning to deal with Pan Jianglong.” Shangguan Wudi, hands clasped behind his back, paced back and forth like a master.
Ouyang Yue looked over and answered, “Yes, we aim to exterminate Pan Jianglong. This scoundrel has committed numerous atrocities, killed many of our people. We must have our revenge; we cannot allow such a person to live.”
“In that case, we have something to discuss.” Shangguan Wudi sat down on a stool.
