Chapter 1075 - 1075 1061 Saving Lives
Chapter 1075: Chapter 1061: Saving Lives Chapter 1075: Chapter 1061: Saving Lives The sword rain came slashing down, like a firestorm.
The flesh worm had no choice but to defend itself. Despite its thick skin, the searing heat caused it considerable discomfort.
Shao Hengjiang, though he had taken a punch, was able to counter with his palms, nullifying seventy percent of the force, so it was not much of an issue for him. With his deep martial arts foundation, he was naturally able to withstand it.
The flesh worm had to return to deal with Shao Hengjiang.
Ye Chen quickly took advantage of the flesh worm’s momentary neglect to dodge and evade the energy attack.
When the flesh worm matched its fire against Shao Hengjiang, the latter’s energy was incredibly powerful, but after such a substantial drain, he couldn’t withstand the charging energy. He quickly dodged to avoid the head-on clash, and Ye Chen seized the opportunity to jump out and narrowly escaped with his life.
But the problem before them was that the flesh worm was impervious to weapons, and its energy was much more formidable than they had anticipated; the attacks Ye Chen made were no threat to the flesh worm.
Moreover, the ship was rocking more and more violently.
It could be swallowed by the sea at any moment.
“Are you sure that once we get out of this storm cloud, you’ll be able to figure out a way to deal with this flesh worm?” Ye Chen asked.
“No, I just think that if we can get out of this tempest, the winds won’t be as strong, and we won’t be in as much danger.”
“What you say is as useful as a fart, we still haven’t found an effective method.”
“Can you find an effective method?” Shao Hengjiang shot back.
“Let’s work together and see if it’s really invulnerable to swords and spears.” Ye Chen started to doubt the creature’s invulnerability, believing that while the flesh worm could only focus on one of them, they were two.
A fireball pressed down, about to strike them, Ye Chen unleashed a palm strike as loud as thunder, splitting the fireball in two like a great saber.
Shao Hengjiang passed through and immediately struck out with both palms, aiming straight for the flesh worm’s chest. But the flesh worm spat out a Fire Dragon that blocked the energy released by Shao Hengjiang.
While Shao Hengjiang was tied up with the creature, Ye Chen circled around and executed the Gathering of Ten Thousand Spirits. His hands morphed into a sword, thrusting directly at the flesh worm’s chest, with a myriad of lightning bolts crushing down upon it.
This was totally unexpected for the flesh worm.
With a torrent of energy released, the flesh worm’s chest was struck and in that instant, it let out a howl and was thrown off by Shao Hengjiang. With a Swift Movement Technique, another palm strike sent it flying, and with a thunderous impact, it hit the flesh worm’s head. The flesh worm plunged into the water.
Ye Chen quickly shouted, “What are you waiting for? Start the ship, stop gawking!” He knew that those two strikes weren’t lethal for the flesh worm, which would likely mount a counterattack very soon.
But at that moment, a dense swarm, the size of coconut shells and resembling bats, rushed towards them. There were thousands of them, unafraid of the stormy weather, charging over with a roar.
They assailed the ship, like bats with blood-red eyes and full of sharp teeth, but larger, swooping directly at people’s faces. Several crewmembers were knocked down and dragged into the sea.
These creatures must have been very hungry. Although one or two didn’t pose much of a threat, a whole swarm was different. Ye Chen only had two hands, and no matter how fast he was, there was only so much he could do against so many fearless, squealing creatures, leaving him somewhat overwhelmed.
He could only release a few shockwaves, turning his energy into glowing waves, crushing through them, leaving a ground littered with their corpses.
Just then, that damned flesh worm began to surface again, but this time, it didn’t go after Ye Chen and Shao Hengjiang; instead, it targeted the ship, spewing Fireballs as it attacked.
With only a distance of three or four zhang separating it from the ship, the threat was immense. If the ship were to be breached with several holes, it would be nothing but a sunken wreck. It seemed the flesh worm had grown smarter and was not so simple at all.
Ye Chen and Shao Hengjiang couldn’t just let it continue. They quickly moved to intercept, but the cunning flesh worm kept lobbing Fireballs near them, forcing the two to run back and forth, deflecting the projectiles attacking the ship. Some that weren’t blocked exploded with great force; although they couldn’t sink the ship, a single Fireball could blow through two layers of the deck. This situation was untenable.
Ye Chen couldn’t keep up this passive defense any longer, swiftly conjuring energy; flashes of lightning, shadowy blades, and even a conjured Green Dragon surged towards the flesh worm. While these weren’t lethal to the beast, they did hurt it and made it uncomfortable. It had no choice but to return and defend itself.
Shao Hengjiang also saw a chance and drew his Illusion Blade, greeting the creature directly with it. The two of them took positions on either side and surprisingly managed to draw its attention back. The ship continued to move forward, the flesh worm following closely on one side.
Ye Chen said, “We absolutely can’t let this damn flesh worm get close.” Those claws were too sharp; one swipe would leave five marks. The two of them gained a bit of experience, each guarding a side and coordinating with each other. Since there was only one flesh worm, it could only focus on one person, allowing the other to find an opportunity. As long as they didn’t give it a chance to approach, they would be alright.
But just then, cries for help came from below. The voice belonged to Nangong Yan. Thousands of carnivorous creatures capable of flight had burrowed into the cabin, either in search of food or to capture people. The vessel was on the brink of collapse, many parts were already leaking, and they were severely understaffed to deal with these creatures while barely managing to fend for themselves.
“Not good,” Shao Hengjiang heard Nangong Yan’s cries for help. Worried that she was in danger, he couldn’t let anything happen to his daughter, especially as some people had already been torn into over a dozen pieces by those pitch-black creatures.
Ye Chen thought they had found a chance to stand their ground against the flesh worm and were just waiting for the ship to get through the stormy area.
But Shao Hengjiang said, “I’ll leave this to you.” And with a flash, he disappeared behind.
Ye Chen was stunned. The old man had left him alone with the flesh worm for the sake of his daughter.
Seeing Shao Hengjiang leave, the Phoenix Monster saw an opportunity and opened its mouth to release a Fire Dragon straight at Ye Chen. He hurried to defend himself; otherwise, the energy would hit the ship. The Fire Dragon could puncture the bottom of the ship; if it broke through, sinking would be inevitable. He wouldn’t allow such a thing to happen and had to withstand it by force.
Had Shao Hengjiang been there, he would have assisted him in dealing with the Phoenix Monster, but now he had to face the ordeal alone.
Ye Chen didn’t know what to do and exploded with a boom, breaking through the deck.
Still, he managed to dissipate much of the energy, and it did not cause the bottom of the ship to burst open. Wounded, Ye Chen couldn’t care less. He knew the flesh worm would surely destroy the ship next, so he hastily got up again, and sure enough, the flesh worm gathered energy, preparing to destroy the ship. But before it could strike, Ye Chen hadn’t waited for its attack.
With a punch like a meteor, he struck the flesh worm, which hadn’t expected him to recover so quickly. Although the strike didn’t stop it from releasing its energy, it changed the direction of the energy’s release.
Fortunately, this allowed the ship to narrowly escape a disaster. If not for that jolt, the energy would have punctured the vessel, but the flesh worm had clearly not succeeded.
Soon enough, the flesh worm’s attention was on Ye Chen. It was evidently furious; the score for the two lost teeth hadn’t been settled yet, and now this. It was determined to kill him.
An energy wave was about to strike, and Ye Chen quickly summoned the Red Demonic Spirit and the Black Demonic Spirit, shouting, “Go and disrupt that flesh worm!” he released both spirits, and like two swords, they shot out, tangling around the flesh worm like an octopus.
Both the Red Demonic Spirit and the Black Demonic Spirit were scared, knowing they had to escape quickly or they might not get the chance. Taking advantage of a moment before the flesh worm’s energy could bear down, they quickly freed themselves from Ye Chen.
Nangong Yan’s room had already been blasted apart, water constantly pouring in. The ship was rocking violently, and that was the least of their worries. The most dangerous aspect was the invasion by the flying and aggressive Blood-sucking Bats, which came straight for the crew to capture them.
She drew her sword and started slashing, killing a dozen under her blade. Although her martial arts skills were indeed impressive and she could handle a dozen with no problem, and even thirty-odd bats were manageable, a hundred became overwhelming, and Li Mo was also entangled by a hundred of them.
The large hole continued to allow more Blood-sucking Bats to pour in.
There would always be a moment when she got caught off guard, and just as she made a horizontal slash, one of the bats leaped from behind, grabbing onto her clothes—a drag, a fall backward, and she hit the ground hard.
Her sword was nowhere to be found.
Now without her sword, the Blood-sucking Bats would not be polite; they swarmed her. What remained was a feeding frenzy, ready to carry her off. Li Mo couldn’t free his hands or feet; he was overwhelmed.
Nangong Yan kept slapping at them, but the dozen or so Blood-sucking Bats, like executioners, were ready to lift her away forcefully. Many others on the ship had been carried away by the bats in the same way.
And she was about to be flown out the collapsed roof.
But just then, whoosh, a dark figure flew in, and a hundred sword shadows lashed out, seizing the prey from the tiger’s mouth without a hitch. The dozen Blood-sucking Bats were struck; blood burst forth, Nangong Yan fell, and Shao Hengjiang hurriedly flew in to catch her.
Nangong Yan, feeling like she had escaped from death, thought it was Ye Chen who came to her aid, only to find it wasn’t him but the very Shao Hengjiang she found so annoying, the one she wanted dead. She was incredulous that her rescuer was the man she had intended to poison.
Seeing the frightened Nangong Yan, Shao Hengjiang even asked, “Girl, are you alright?”
Nangong Yan quickly shook her head, saying, “I’m fine, go save Li Mo quickly.”
