Chapter 1059 - 1059 1045 Compromise
Chapter 1059: Chapter 1045: Compromise Chapter 1059: Chapter 1045: Compromise “Then why did you say that if he doesn’t agree to cooperate with you, you would kill him?” Nangong Yan asked.
Shao Hengjiang was stunned for a moment and asked, “He said that?”
“Yes, he did. I know that if we have no value to you, you won’t let us go, but I’ve told you, none of this has anything to do with him from start to finish. Don’t push him. If you want to kill someone, kill me,” Nangong Yan was still furious.
Shao Hengjiang suddenly understood. Indeed, she still didn’t know she was his daughter. Otherwise, how could he convince people that he would let them go? He said, “Yes, that’s right, I did intend to do that. If you have no value, why would I keep you? I have to kill one to warn a hundred.”
“Then just kill me, and let him go.”
Upon hearing this, Shao Hengjiang said, “That won’t do. The terms I discussed with him include you. He made me promise to spare you before he would cooperate with me. How could I possibly kill you?”
Nangong Yan glanced over furiously, this old man really was full of cunning schemes. She said, “I already told you, it has nothing to do with him.”
Shao Hengjiang smiled faintly and said, “So, just because you say it’s unrelated, it becomes unrelated? Right now, it’s not what you say that matters, it’s what he and I have agreed on.”
Nangong Yan was so angry she could not speak and shouted, “Aren’t you afraid I’ll set the boat on fire?”
“It would be best to wait until you disembark first.”
Nangong Yan, glaring through flared nostrils, found herself at a loss for words, when suddenly she was drawn to a painting hanging above Shao Hengjiang’s head. She had only stolen one painting last time; how come there was another one, and it was of her mother, portrayed with even more emotion? She walked over and shouted, “You perverse old man, how dare you hang a painting of my mother in your room!” and reached to take it down.
Two people were about to come in to stop her but were waved off by Shao Hengjiang.
“You really have no shame, just hanging up other people’s portraits so casually.” The more she thought about her mother’s painting being in this dead man’s room, the angrier she got.
“What exactly is your relationship with my mother?” she demanded.
“Fellow disciples,” Shao Hengjiang replied.
“You were formerly of the Sacred Spirit Sect as well?” Nangong Yan asked, curious.
“Yes.”
Growing more curious, Nangong Yan asked, “Then, why did you leave?”
“I did something wrong.”
Nangong Yan hadn’t really heard her father mention this.
Ye Chen changed into his clothes, Li Mo was released by someone, and he was even told which room Ye Chen was in. Li Mo couldn’t quite believe it and came over. He had no idea what had happened and asked, “Ye Chen, what exactly is going on?”
Seeing Li Mo released made Ye Chen very happy. He hurriedly welcomed Li Mo inside.
Ye Chen briefed him on the situation but didn’t mention that Nangong Yan was Shao Hengjiang’s daughter.
“So you mean to say, you’re planning to cooperate with Shao Hengjiang?” Li Mo asked.
“Yes, I have no other choice.”
“Can this person be trusted? Won’t something go wrong with the Sacred Spirit Stone in his hands?”
Ye Chen replied, “From what I understand, this person can be trusted.”
“It seems you’re set on cooperating with him then,” Li Mo was still a bit surprised.
“Yes, let’s cooperate. Black Demonic Spirit was right; I can’t succeed alone, so cooperation is the only choice. Maybe it’ll work out.” He had thought it over seriously in just half a day.
“As Sect Leader, you know I would definitely support your decision.”
“Hungry? Come and eat something quickly.”
Li Mo asked, “What about the young lady?”
“I guess she’s gone to lash out at her dad,” Ye Chen replied.
These words startled Li Mo, and he asked, “What, lashing out at her dad?”
Ye Chen answered, “I only just found out myself, but I promised Shao Hengjiang I wouldn’t tell the girl. I guess if she knew the truth, she’d definitely go crazy.”
Probably nothing could be more shocking than this news. Li Mo asked, “Are you serious? She really is Shao Hengjiang’s daughter?”
“From what I know, there shouldn’t be any mistake. She is Shao Hengjiang’s daughter. But you mustn’t tell her,” Ye Chen said.
“No wonder Shao Hengjiang isn’t mad. So that’s what’s going on.” Li Mo said as he came over to have lunch.
“Let those two, father and daughter, sort it out slowly. Just don’t let the word get out.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t spill the beans,” Li Mo found the situation increasingly amusing.
“We’ve also been cooped up in the chicken and duck cabin for so long, let’s just enjoy being lords for once,” Ye Chen exhaled in relief, now it was up to Shao Hengjiang to decide what to do next.
“This father and daughter pair really are something else.”
“More than just interesting—it’s downright melodramatic. Is there anything more dramatic than a daughter poisoning her own father?”
Li Mo laughed, looked around, and remarked, “This room is decorated like a bridal chamber.”
Just as he was speaking, Nangong Yan, bristling with anger and still in her bridal gown, returned. Ye Chen’s clothes were replaced on another chair.
Li Mo became even more puzzled and asked, “Don’t tell me you two got married.”
Ye Chen replied, “I was brought here against my will; it wasn’t my intention.”
Nangong Yan gurgled her tea, her mother’s painting hung in Shao Hengjiang’s room, she felt embarrassed to ask, guessing that Shao Hengjiang had a thing for her mother when he was younger. Asking would just make things awkward, so she refrained.
“You didn’t consummate the marriage, did you?” Li Mo became anxious, looking at Ye Chen.
Ye Chen curled his lips into a sneer, gave him a pat, and said, “You really think too much. Hurry up and eat, then go back and rest well.”
“You’re just living together then.” It was clear Li Mo was not at ease, a man and a woman living together like this, who could guarantee nothing would happen? Of course, he was worried.
“Should I leave and let the two of you live together?” Ye Chen asked.
“That won’t be necessary, but you must be reserved, consider others more. There are people still waiting for you in the Central Plains.”
“Always have to add your two cents, don’t you?”
Li Mo picked up a plate of food and said, “Hey, I’d better not disturb you two anymore.” He walked out the door and saw an underling, shouting, “Hurry up and arrange a room for me.”
The lad was stunned for a moment.
“What are you looking at? We are guests of your boss, get moving!”
The lad nodded and went down.
Suddenly, only Ye Chen and Nangong Yan were left in the room. Nangong Yan was very angry, lying on the bed realizing she had no recourse and had just returned like this.
Ye Chen probably guessed the situation and asked with a chuckle, “So, did you reach an agreement or not?”
Nangong Yan ignored him.
Ye Chen continued, “Actually, you should take some time to understand Shao Hengjiang.”
“Why should I spend time to understand him? Who is he to me!” Nangong Yan fumed.
Ye Chen hurriedly said, “I’m just saying, you’re prejudiced against him, give it some time, perhaps the prejudice will fade, and he won’t seem as bad anymore.”
Thinking of Shao Hengjiang using his underhanded tactics to coerce Ye Chen, how could Nangong Yan possibly change her opinion? She retorted, “He’s threatening you like that, and you’re still saying I’m prejudiced and should spend time to get to know him? You must be joking.”
“Of course, you’ve done so many beheading offenses, and he didn’t parade you through the streets already shows he’s got a conscience. What more do you want? Now you feel innocent, but I’m the one you’ve implicated.”
Remembering what Shao Hengjiang had said, that she was part of the deal, she felt somewhat touched. How else could Shao Hengjiang have let her go? She also felt a deep sense of self-reproach.
Ye Chen went on, “I can save you once, but you can’t keep making trouble; you need to restrain yourself. If you really make a mess, there’s no way I can help you. Think about what you’re going to do.”
“I never asked you to save me.” She said so, but how could she not feel a bit touched? Yet now, aboard this ship, what could he possibly do?
“It seems you truly are a heartless person.”
“Don’t worry, I know to restrain myself, okay?”
“That’s for the best. Just don’t say I didn’t try hard enough if you provoke someone into losing their temper,” Ye Chen said.
The day slowly turned to evening again.
Nangong Yan knew she couldn’t persuade Ye Chen; she’d been saying it all day long. She walked out, feeling incredibly dejected.
Ye Chen asked, “You’re not really going to set a fire, are you?”
“If I were to set a fire, I’d burn you all alive.”
“Have some conscience will you, and don’t be so impulsive,” Ye Chen called out after her.
“I am just that impulsive.”
Ye Chen stood up; he couldn’t let this girl go out and cause havoc, feeling uneasy in his heart, he quickly followed her.
Nangong Yan glared at him, knowing this guy was keeping an eye on her, she snapped, “I’m going to the toilet, are you coming too?”
“Together, keep each other company,” Ye Chen said.
Nangong Yan snorted.
Ye Chen continued, “Don’t be like that, you can negotiate properly with Shao Hengjiang. He is also from the Sacred Spirit Sect, and your fathers are sworn brothers.”
“Now you’re both in this together, of course you’d say that.”
“I’m in this together with you as well.”
“Who’s joining you? Stop talking nonsense,” Nangong Yan said as she headed to the deck. Stars were slowly creeping out, and the ship sailed on with no one following them.
Lying in the cabin, Nangong Yan was lost in wild thoughts.
Having experienced two incidences, Ye Chen knew this girl was impulsive, capable of actions beyond anyone’s imagination. He said, “You’re not brooding over how to deal with Shao Hengjiang again, are you?”
Nangong Yan prayed that this time, Shao Hengjiang would fail to follow the Jinglong, and in agreeing to cooperate, she had compromised.
“Put aside your prejudice and take some time to really understand what kind of person Shao Hengjiang is,” Ye Chen said, intending to bridge the gap between father and daughter, but he had to be subtle about it. He knew he had to take it step by step, or else things could take a wrong turn.
