Chapter 1015 - 1015 1001 The Mysterious Qian Manor Master
Chapter 1015: Chapter 1001: The Mysterious Qian Manor Master Chapter 1015: Chapter 1001: The Mysterious Qian Manor Master Nangong Yan pinched her nose and still didn’t want to enter, as Ye Chen said, “Hurry up, it was hard enough for us to sneak in here, and you still want to leave? I won’t go down again.”
Nangong Yan, upon hearing this, complained, “Your idea just sucks. We can think of something else, like getting a room.”
“Heh, you’re really funny. Are we here on a trip? This Sauntering Vessel is the ship of the Iron Ten Thousand Bandits. With so many people guarding and watching, all under their control, and you’re a major merchant! I think this place is best, the safest, with no one keeping an eye on us.”
Nangong Yan stormed out with an air of fury.
Ye Chen quickly followed, “I know your relationship with the Iron Ten Thousand Bandits isn’t all that great. If they find out you’re the daughter of the Immortal Medicine Island Master, kidnapping you to blackmail your daddy is a possibility. I suggest you keep a low profile.”
“It’s all your fault! I thought you had a good plan, but you came up with such a lousy idea.”
“This is the height of my wit—managing to think of a way to sneak you in here is already quite something. Don’t keep complaining here; try to appreciate it a little,” said Ye Chen as he gazed at the sea.
This ship wouldn’t leave until tomorrow morning, and he too was eager to reach Sacred Spirit Island.
“There’s food here, and people to protect us. They’re pirates, so we probably won’t encounter other pirates, which means we can rest easy.” Ye Chen finally managed to rest for the night. He pulled Nangong Yan inside and said, “Stop causing trouble. You’re injured. If you really get caught, you’ll end up having to bear children for them, which I bet isn’t something you want.”
Nangong Yan was still reluctant.
“The corridor is windy, and you’re already weak. Catching a cold would make things worse, and by the time we get to Sacred Spirit Island, you’d just have to recuperate quietly,” said Ye Chen, pushing her inside. The men were comparing their shoulder muscles as if others had never seen such a thing, which especially disgusted Nangong Yan.
Pointing to a spot inside, Ye Chen said, “You sleep there, no one will take advantage of you.” Ye Chen slept next to her, effectively separating her from the others.
The snoring sounded rhythmically like singing, loud and lively in the quiet night, each one more remarkable than the last, almost driving Nangong Yan to jump up.
But, after deep thought, she realized she was heading to Sacred Spirit Island. Missing out on Sacred Spirit Island, everything would be over—what a pity that would be! No, delays must absolutely be avoided; she must endure, everything will pass.
She wasn’t sure how long it took, but it was deep into the night when she finally fell asleep.
The night passed unknowingly.
“Hey, you lot, you think you’re here to sleep in? Get up and start working!” The shout came from the same rotund man from the reception area yesterday, his belly like a smiling Buddha, issuing commands at the entrance.
Nangong Yan was awakened by the shout, but it felt like someone was pressing down on her, making it difficult to breathe.
She had no idea when that damned person got on top of her without her noticing at all, his breathing fogging up and spraying steam into her ear.
She pushed him away and checked herself to see if she had been molested.
Once she was sure everything was normal, she felt relieved.
The rotund man was about to explode with rage, having already walked in. Ye Chen was also woken up by the noise, but he really didn’t want to wake up, squinting his eyes. The rotund man yelled, “Don’t act like a delicate lady with me. The ship is leaving. If you anger me, I’ll throw you all into the sea.” He really looked the part of a pirate—a habit that seemed unchangeable.
They gave Ye Chen some food, but before he was full, someone came to take them to the chicken and duck cabin. The strong smell of chicken feces almost suffocated them. Cows and sheep were bleating and ducks quacking; it now made sense why someone said that after sleeping in there, you could smell chicken feces all day.
The man, holding his nose, pointed inside and said, “Here’s the list and the feed; handle it yourselves. Make sure you take good care of them, or you’ll be held responsible if anything happens. Someone will come to check later. I advise you not to be lazy. If you get caught slacking, I won’t be the one getting whipped, and who knows, you might be thrown into the sea.”
“Don’t worry, we’ll do as told,” Ye Chen replied, bending over in respect.
“And clean up all the droppings properly, make sure it’s clean. When you’re done, lock up and remember—don’t be curious. Just do your job and that’s it.” The man had already left.
The cabin wasn’t large, but it housed quite a few animals. They really knew how to enjoy themselves, keeping so many live ones around, freshening up the place.
Nangong Yan stood at the door in a huff, her emotions seemingly drained.
Ye Chen called out, “My dear miss, could you please lend a hand? Do you really need to be thrown into the sea to be content?” He had already walked in.
“You, you’re really something, ending up with such a lousy job,” Nangong Yan complained.
“Hey, you heard it last night, if we don’t work, we can’t board the ship.” Ye Chen picked up a shovel and added, “You’re used to the luxurious life at home and don’t know the hardships of the servants. You should experience this; it’s good for you.” He handed the shovel to her.
“I wish I could smack you dead with this shovel.”
“The faster we finish, the sooner we rest. I don’t want to reek of chicken poop, and I bet you don’t either.” Ye Chen had already gone inside.
Nangong Yan had never suffered like this, looking at the clucking hens and yelling, “I’m going to roast all of them, turn them into roast chicken.” She had always been served by others, but now it was her turn to serve these bleating, quacking, clucking creatures, and it was truly uncomfortable.
Ye Chen charged in and got busy. He covered his nose with a gauze, which made it a bit more bearable.
I didn’t know how long I had been busy for, but having cleaned all sorts of droppings within the cabin, and distributed the feed according to the list, the sun had already climbed halfway up the sky before I realized it.
“This time will make you remember a lesson and, who knows, it might even cultivate some feelings between you and your family’s servants.”
Nangong Yan had been resting on a pile of hay for a while and had by now forgotten the stink, probably used to it.
The sound of rushing water came through, along with vibrations, suddenly grabbing the attention of both.
Nangong Yan stood up and walked toward a corner of the cabin, where there was a secret door, probably leading to a secretive chamber. The sound of water, along with the vibrations, was coming from that chamber.
“It seems like it’s coming from inside there.”
The sounds of clattering and banging grew clearer and clearer, there was definitely something inside, and it was no ordinary thing; one could feel the floor vibrating. Just as their curiosity peaked to know what was inside, four or five people came in carrying two baskets of fish.
A bald man with a freckled face led the way, bellowing, “Hey, what are you two doing?”.
He knew that two new keepers had come.
“There seems to be something inside,” Ye Chen pointed out.
“Didn’t I tell you not to be curious!” the bald man continued, “Is your work done or not?”
Ye Chen quickly said, “Yes, all done.”
The bald-faced man glanced around, noticed that everything was indeed very clean, and that the feed had been distributed into the bins. He seemed quite satisfied and said, “Then quickly go out, and don’t be curious. It can cost you your lives, you know?”
Ye Chen quickly pulled Nangong Yan to leave.
Nangong Yan watched as the two baskets of fish were carried in, which couldn’t possibly be for feeding the domestic fowl. She said, “There’s definitely something shady in that chamber. Their fish must be for feeding whatever is inside.”
“Hey, can you not be so curious, please? We’re here to go to Sacred Spirit Island. Beyond that, there’s nothing else,” Ye Chen led her outside.
“I must find out what is inside there,” Nangong Yan said, her curiosity insatiable. The more people didn’t want her to know, the more she wanted to find out.
“I’m hungry, aren’t you?” Ye Chen patted his stomach.
“Do I still smell like chicken dung?” Nangong Yan kept sniffing herself.
“You’ll get used to it, you always have to. Knowing that life isn’t easy, you should treat your family’s servants better,” Ye Chen headed toward the stairs, adding, “A bit of sea breeze will get rid of the smell of chicken dung.”
The two lingered for a while, Nangong Yan still murmuring, “I must find out what is exactly inside there.”
“Why seek trouble for yourself?” murmured Ye Chen.
After they had been out in the sea breeze for half an hour, a group of about a dozen people approached. They looked like wealthy merchants, with one walking at the front, a square-faced middle-aged man with an imposing build, exuding an aura of dominance. He must have been their leader, and despite his middle age, his charming and confident face could not be hidden, he must have been incredibly popular when he was younger.
Somone behind him was saying, “Qian Manor Master, rest assured, we will handle the task you’ve given us perfectly.”
“Hmm, I trust your capabilities. If I didn’t trust you, I wouldn’t have entrusted this to you.”
Ye Chen followed Nangong Yan, who had quickly stepped aside to give way.
Mulling it over, Nangong Yan thought that since this was the Iron Ten Thousand Bandits’ ship, they would definitely be on board. However, she had never seen the Iron Ten Thousand Bandits, and figuring out who was Shao Hengjiang or Wan Liyun might come in handy sometime.
The group had already passed by then.
Nangong Yan nudged Ye Chen and said, “Let’s go too.”
“Where to?”
“To eat.” She followed behind the group, heading to the food storage.
“You don’t smell like chicken dung anymore.”
A hefty slap landed on Ye Chen’s back.
“You don’t have a crush on that guy, do you? He might seem rich, but he’s also quite old and might already have three wives and four concubines at home,” Ye Chen said.
