Chapter 67: their time of defeat

Hunter drove his car casually, occasionally glancing at Isabella, who looked anxious, her hand frequently touching her stomach.

"What’s wrong?" he asked, slightly slowing down the car. "You look tense. Are you nauseous or dizzy?"

"No..." Isabella shook her head, keeping her eyes on the road ahead. "I don’t feel anything..."

"Then don’t worry..."

"I’m worried because I don’t feel any pregnancy symptoms," Isabella explained, furrowing her brows and glancing at Hunter, who looked cool in his sunglasses. "I... I’ve just missed my period. No nausea or dizziness... What if I’m not pregnant after all? That would destroy our happiness," she continued, then turned her gaze forward again.

"But you’ve tested multiple times, and the results were always positive. I think pregnancy doesn’t always come with nausea and dizziness. Stop overthinking... I sleep with you every night. You must be pregnant," Hunter replied calmly.

Isabella sighed in frustration, glancing at Hunter, who kept showing positive responses, clearly hoping she was pregnant. Yet, her flat stomach and lack of typical pregnancy symptoms worried her that her husband might be disappointed if things didn’t turn out as expected.

"I shouldn’t have shown him the test results this morning before visiting the doctor," she thought anxiously. Then, her eyes caught sight of a black Jeep in the rearview mirror, following them aggressively.

She frowned, realizing the Jeep was speeding up and driving aggressively behind them.

"Hunter... I think you should slow down and let that Jeep pass us," she said.

"I don’t think that’s necessary," Hunter replied, occasionally glancing at the mirror. "We need to get to the hospital quickly so you can confirm whether you’re pregnant or not. I don’t like seeing you so anxious and doubtful."

"But I don’t like speeding like this... It feels dangerous."

"No one dares mess with me..."

"Not everyone knows who you are, especially since you’re in a car," Isabella argued.

Hunter smirked and glanced at Isabella. "You’re right... But don’t forget this car is custom-made for the Brown family. People recognize it, and no one wants to mess with the Browns unless they’re ready to face the consequences," he replied confidently.

Isabella gave a faint smile and shook her head.

"My husband’s gotten a bit arrogant lately," she remarked.

"I’m just stating facts, not being arrogant," Hunter replied, keeping his eyes on the road as they neared a red light. He accelerated slightly. "I hate red lights. We’ll make it through before it fully turns red," he added.

"Hunter, don’t! That’s dangerous!" Isabella yelled, reaching for his arm.

Instinctively, Hunter slowed the car down, almost coming to a stop at the red light. But suddenly, the Jeep behind them slammed into their car at full speed.

"Damn!" Hunter exclaimed as his car was thrown out of control.

"Hunter, watch out!" Isabella screamed, noticing a truck speeding toward them from the left.

"Nooo!"

"Hunter!" Isabella shouted, covering her face.

The truck collided with Hunter’s car, causing it to spin several times before stopping near a billboard pole. The scene turned chaotic as vehicles stopped, and bystanders rushed to help. Within moments, ambulances, police, and firefighters arrived to handle the situation and provide first aid.

Hunter was rushed to the ICU due to his severe injuries, while Isabella was treated in the ER. She lay on a hospital bed with bandages on her head, slowly opening her eyes and glancing around faintly.

"Awh... my head, my neck..." she groaned, noticing Juliana standing beside the bed.

"You... Um..." Isabella furrowed her brow, closing her eyes briefly before looking at Juliana, who stared at her expressionlessly.

"Are you my mother?" Isabella asked.

Juliana frowned immediately. What is she saying? Does she not recognize me? she wondered, watching Isabella intently.

"Um... Hey... I... Awh..." Isabella groaned again. "My head hurts so much... I don’t know what to do... And... why are you just standing there? Do you know me? Did you save me?" she asked weakly.

"No," Juliana replied shortly, clenching her jaw before sighing. "I saved you from an accident. But... I know you. We’ve met before, but we didn’t get the chance to be introduced," she lied.

Isabella stared at her, confused.

"What’s your name?" Juliana asked with a faint smile.

"I... I... My name?" Isabella looked increasingly puzzled, glancing down at the striped hospital blanket covering her. "I... I don’t know my name... I don’t remember anything!" she gasped, breathing heavily and glancing back at Juliana.

"I don’t remember anything. Oh God, what’s happening to me? I..." she panicked, clutching her head as it began to throb. "Oh God... Who am I? Why don’t I remember anything?"

"Hey, hey..." Juliana gently took Isabella’s hand. "Calm down... Don’t be afraid... I’ll help you!"

"But how? I don’t know my name... I don’t know myself!" Isabella said, frustrated.

"I know you’re confused... I know this is hard for you, but I’ll help you figure it all out!" Juliana said, her brows furrowed, showing sadness in her eyes. "Trust me... I’ll help you!"

Isabella took a deep breath, staring deeply at Juliana.

Who is she? Why does she want to help me if she doesn’t even know my name? Should I trust her? But... But I have no choice...

"Wait here. I’ll call the doctor... I’ll also contact a friend who can help you," Juliana said before leaving.

Isabella remained silent, letting Juliana leave. She closed her eyes, then reopened them, looking around. She touched her face and examined her fingers.

"Who am I? What was my life like before this? What’s happening to me?"

Juliana hurried down the corridor, far from the ER, pulling out her red bag and taking out her phone. She paced back and forth while calling someone, glancing around to ensure no one overheard her conversation.

"Mike! I need your help!" she said once the line connected.

"Mrs. Brown... You’re already asking for my help before even saying hello. What’s the matter?" Mike teased.

Juliana sighed, recalling Isabella’s amnesia while Hunter remained critical.

"I need you to remove the bad luck from my son’s life," she said.

"Yourself?"

"What did you say!?"

"Hahaha... The bad luck is you, Juliana Brown. You always call anything you dislike a curse for your son, even though you know he likes it."

"Mike... I’ll transfer a million dollars. Just do your job now!" Juliana hissed.

"Alright... Where are you?"

"I’m at Carlos Lorentz Hospital. Meet me here quickly, before my family arrives! I’ll wait for you in front of the ER," Juliana instructed, glancing around as if ensuring no one was listening to her plans.

"Alright... I’m on my way."

Juliana ended the call, then rushed toward the ER doors with glass windows in the middle.

"Isabella Quinn... I’ve warned you many times not to mess with me, but you’ve challenged me. I can’t tolerate this anymore... You’ve made me powerless in front of my son, made me look weak... But I know I’m right, and even God is on my side, giving me this opportunity. I won’t waste it... You’ll never be part of Hunter’s life again," she whispered, gripping her phone tightly.
