Standing Next To You
Chapter 596: I Miss You

Chapter 596: I Miss You

There was a lot to consider before Bei Sangyun finalized the trip.

First, the job abroad. Fortunately, Butler Xin assured her he could handle everything, and there were no major events happening at the moment. He said he had enough support and encouraged her to have fun.

Zhong Cheng also reassured her that if things abroad got tough, he would send Xu Tian to help.

With three capable people working under her, Bei Sangyun finally felt at ease.

A few days later, her private jet flew across the country to the places she knew Grandma Bei would love.

They visited the Great Wall, Yellow Mountain, and every famous temple they could find.

Grandma Bei’s face was rosy as she bickered back and forth with Sister Ye about history.

Bei Sangyun laughed as she watched them argue like old friends.

The scenery was breathtaking, the food was exotic and delicious. The world felt vibrant and alive—so different from the dull and colorless life she once had.

At one of the rented cottages overlooking the mountains, Bei Sangyun spoke to Fei Chuan while watching the sunset.

"...Grandma slipped in the mud, and Sister Ye laughed her ass off. Then Grandma gave her the middle finger. Can you imagine that? It was the first time I saw Sister Ye laugh so hard I could see her tonsils. And I’ve never

seen Grandma act so childish before," Bei Sangyun said, laughing as she recalled the moment.

"Fortunately, there was a spring nearby, so we spent the rest of the day soaking in it."

Fei Chuan laughed too. "I can picture Grandma Bei’s grumpy face. But flipping the middle finger? When did she even learn that?"

"I asked the same thing! Apparently, she learned it from Guard Huang when they were abroad. Some teenagers who were confined in the same hospital loves to use the gesture a lot, so he picked it up—and then he taught Grandma."

They both chuckled, imagining Grandma Bei learning such a rebellious move.

"How about you? How was your day?" Bei Sangyun asked.

It was Fei Chuan’s turn to talk. He shared the details of his day while Bei Sangyun listened to his deep voice, as comforting as a lullaby.

The sun slowly dipped below the horizon, the world turning dark. Yet Bei Sangyun’s smile never faded. If anything, the light in her heart only glowed brighter.

With his voice in her ears, her heart felt at peace.

A soft wind blew, and Bei Sangyun recalled again Sister Ye’s laughter and Grandma Bei’s unexpected middle finger.

It had truly surprised her—to see a side of her grandmother she’d never seen before.

And when she tried to remember what they were like in her previous life, nothing came up. At first, that used to make her nervous—forgetting anything tied to her past life—but now, it didn’t matter anymore.

What mattered was that the people she loved were happy in this life. And that was a kind of bliss she would never trade for anything.

Bei Sangyun watched the darkening sky and smiled.

Her memories of the past life were fading, and for the first time, that didn’t scare her. Because the future—the unknown—would be faced with the people she loved by her side.

"I miss you," Fei Chuan’s longing voice came through the speaker.

Bei Sangyun smiled softly. There wasn’t a single day he didn’t cross her mind. She missed him dearly.

"Me too. I miss you so much."

Despite the uncertainty of the future, she found joy in waiting for whatever days lay ahead—as long as they were shared with the people she loved.

And that was all that mattered.

.....

With all the fun they were having, a week flew by.

Grandma Bei and Maid Ye Zhai were out shopping in a nearby town. Bei Sangyun hadn’t joined them; she lacked the patience to wander through market stalls, and the two of them were happily debating over trinkets she knew nothing about. So she waited outside.

Because they were gone so long, she rang Butler Xin and Zhong Cheng to check on the companies. Both assured her that nothing major was happening and urged her to keep enjoying herself.

Glancing at the date, Bei Sangyun decided they would wrap up the trip and head home tomorrow.

Just as she ended the call with Zhong Cheng, her phone rang again. Seeing Fei Chuan’s name, her face lit up.

"Hey," she said, "isn’t it around midnight there?"

"It’s fine. I just wanted to hear your voice."

"We spoke earlier," she teased, laughing softly.

"That was half a day ago. I miss you."

Her heart melted. Looking around to be sure no one could overhear, she whispered, "I miss you too."

Fei Chuan chuckled, and she laughed quietly with him. It was only a brief call, but the sound of his voice filled her with warmth.

From a distance she spotted Grandma Bei and Maid Ye Zhai heading back, so she urged Fei Chuan to get some rest, wished him good night, and ended the call.

Grandma Bei eyed her closely. Noting the bright smile and the starry look in her granddaughter’s eyes, she sighed. "I’m really going to lose my granddaughter someday."

Bei Sangyun looped her arm through Grandma’s. "Come on, Grandma—jealous?"

"Hmph. If that man ever treats you badly, come straight home. Don’t forgive him. Dump him without a second thought."

"Grandma, you’re teaching me to be heartless." Bei Sangyun chuckled.

"Exactly. Be heartless and cruel if you must. It doesn’t matter what others think—you always have a home to return to."

"I know. You’ll always be my home." She hugged Grandma’s arm. "But honestly, Fei Chuan would never hurt me. And if he did... I’d bury him myself."

Grandma Bei finally smiled and squeezed her hand. "My only priority is your happiness, so look after yourself. Live well."

Bei Sangyun pressed her cheek to Grandma’s hand. "Why do you sound like you’re sending me away?"

Grandma pinched her cheeks. "Why, don’t you have any plans to build your own family, hmm?"

Bei Sangyun blinked. Build her own family? She’d never really thought about it.

"I already have a family—you, Sister Ye Zhai, the fourth branch, and Fei Chuan."

Grandma shook her head. "Just remember what you promised me—your well-being comes first."

Bei Sangyun laughed softly and nodded. "Yes, Grandma."

She had assumed the trip would end tomorrow, but that evening Grandma Bei surprised her. "Let’s extend the journey," she said, eyes shining. "Why not go see the rest of the world?"
