Chapter 592: Match making II
Chapter 592: Match making II
The odd day continued.
Because right after her shift, she received a call from her brother—inviting her out to eat.
Lin Sunji: ??
She got into her brother’s car and settled in the passenger seat. "What’s the occasion? Why are you suddenly inviting me out to eat?" As far as she could remember, the only time they ate together was during family dinners. And ever since Lin Sanju had become the official heir, he rarely joineed the family dinner.
"It was Fei Chuan who invited us," Lin Sanju replied as he started the engine.
That answer surprised Lin Sunji even more. "Are you sure it’s me he invited? Not Bei Sangyun?"
"I asked him twice. He said yes."
Lin Sunji: ??
They arrived at the restaurant as instructed, and both siblings were surprised when they entered the private room.
Fei Chuan was already there, sitting at the dining table—with another guest.
"Xu Tian?" Lin Sanju said aloud, startled.
Xu Tian was just as stunned.
"It’s really you!" Lin Sanju smiled as he walked over. "How do you two know each other?"
The two men hugged, and Lin Sanju’s usually stoic expression softened into one of genuine happiness at seeing his old friend.
Xu Tian, who rarely smiled, had one on his face now. "My boss introduced him to me. I’m currently training under him."
"How envious. I wanted to train under you too, Fei Chuan," Lin Sanju commented with a grin.
"You’ll do fine without me. You don’t need my help," Fei Chuan replied casually.
Lin Sunji remained silent as the three men exchanged greetings. She watched them with a confused expression. This feels like a boys’ hangout... why am I even here?
"Ah, right. This is my twin sister," Lin Sanju finally remembered, gesturing toward her. "Lin Sunji."
Xu Tian looked at her, and Lin Sunji looked right back. When their eyes met, they both froze for a second.
A flash of surprise crossed Xu Tian’s face. He looked her up and down, as if to confirm he wasn’t mistaken. "Aren’t you... the seller girl?"
Lin Sunji’s lips twitched. So he remembers. And she remembered him too—her dearest customer. To be precise, her only customer.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about. This is our first time meeting," Lin Sunji said coolly, pretending not to recognize him. She reached out her hand. "I’m Lin Sunji. Nice to meet you."
Xu Tian frowned, clearly doubting either his memory or her words. Still, he took her hand. "...I must have mistaken you for someone else."
Fei Chuan watched the exchange carefully. When the brief introduction ended, he called Lin Sanju to sit across from him, leaving Lin Sunji to sit directly across from Xu Tian.
The conversation over dinner mostly revolved around business. Lin Sanju and Fei Chuan led the discussion, occasionally seeking Xu Tian’s opinion. Lin Sunji, however, was largely left out.
If this had been the past, she would’ve felt insulted and left. She used to crave attention and hated being excluded from any conversation. But after going through ups and downs, joining the company as a regular employee, and facing isolation, she had learned to keep her peace—even when she felt out of place.
She quietly ate her meal, listening to their conversation. The day had been going surprisingly well so far, and she wasn’t going to let this small discomfort ruin it.
But perhaps she was enjoying her food a bit too much. Something got stuck in her throat. She coughed, knocking lightly on her chest, and just as she reached for her glass—
A glass of water was already placed in front of her.
Lin Sunji was stunned. She looked up at Xu Tian, who had handed her the water. He didn’t say anything—just gave her a brief glance before returning to the conversation like nothing had happened.
She took the glass and sipped slowly, her mind swirling.
Was he... paying attention to me just now?
She snuck a glance at him—and their eyes met.
Lin Sunji: !
She quickly looked away, pretending to calmly eat, even though her hand trembled slightly as she held her chopsticks.
He was looking at me... right?
What’s his deal?
Despite her annoyed thoughts, her heart was racing. Maybe from surprise... or maybe something more.
...
When the two finally left, Fei Chuan and Xu Tian got back into the car. Fei Chuan shook his head."You’re so slow. How many dinners will it take for you to ask for her number or even her social media?"
Xu Tian blinked. "Huh?"
Fei Chuan looked at him in disappointment."You’ve got a sharp eye for business and you’re a fast worker. So why didn’t you grab the opportunity earlier?"
"What are you talking about?" Xu Tian asked, genuinely confused.
"Lin Sunji. You like her."
Xu Tian frowned. "I just met her today. How can you say I like her? We barely even talked."
"See?" Fei Chuan smirked. "If you didn’t like her, you would’ve just shrugged it off with a ’think whatever you want.’ But instead, you got defensive. Besides, it didn’t look like you two were meeting for the first time."
"You’re delusional," Xu Tian said flatly. "You’re trying way too hard to push me toward someone. I’ve already told you—I’m not trying to steal your girl. I have zero intention of that."
Fei Chuan raised an eyebrow. "My girlfriend’s too pretty and charming. I don’t trust any single man around her. Even people in relationships might be tempted."
"I thought you said she wasn’t your girlfriend," Xu Tian retorted.
Fei Chuan froze at that. A realization dawned on him."...I haven’t asked her yet."
They had been sweet to each other, acted like a couple, even exchanged I love yous—but somehow, he’d never officially asked her to be his girlfriend.
Xu Tian looked at him and couldn’t help smirking."You’re building fences around her, but you haven’t even asked her out yet? You’re sharp and usually quick to act—what happened this time?"
"You must really like her. You’ve never mocked me like this before," Fei Chuan said, narrowing his eyes. Xu Tian had grown bold—using Fei Chuan’s own words against him.
Xu Tian narrowed his eyes too. "If you don’t like being mocked, then stop meddling in my life. I’m not looking to be in a relationship right now. If you push this, it might just mess things up. Let me handle things in my own way."
Fei Chuan met Xu Tian’s serious gaze and eventually sighed. Xu Tian meant every word."Alright. But don’t stop me from inviting them out to eat. I’ll just set the stage. What happens next is up to you."
"Whatever. Just focus on your own life first."
Fei Chuan fell silent.
Right. He hadn’t sorted that part out yet.
After a long pause, he turned to Xu Tian."I have a favor to ask. Will you help me out?"
