Chapter 254: Giving the fiance a call
Damon’s grin froze on his face as the final notification sank in. His pupils dilated slightly. The words blinked back at him like a quiet explosion in his brain.
[Primordial Mana Core]
(Passive Title Effect)
Weaker foes will instinctively sense mana suppression from your presence.
"...What the hell?" Damon muttered.
He read it again. And again. But the words didn’t change.
Primordial Mana Core?
This was completely insane. Legendary mana core was one thing, but how could he have possibly received a boost directly to a primordial mana core? What did this thing even look like? Just how powerful should something labelled as primordial be?
There was no way killing that measly wyrm gave him an update like this!
Sure, it was a draconic beast, but it was not even a true dragon or something even crazier, like a primordial beast. How could such an upgrade be possible?
His bloodline was also fragmented and unstable. It might have had some influence, but it couldn’t have possibly influenced the whole thing. Otherwise, he could have formed a primordial mana core on his first try!
No matter how much Damon thought about it, the whole thing simply did not make sense. A pseudo mana core was not a true mana core, but still, a pseudo mana core was the foundation of everything—mana, skills, everything. And now his core had been recognized as Primordial?
He instinctively reached inward, trying to feel it, but his senses still couldn’t detect any stable mana flow. His circuits were still a disaster, his body barely hanging together.
Did he have it and lose it, or was his body’s current condition due to the fact that it simply couldn’t handle such a core?
Damon went through the system notifications once again, and it only talked about soul injury and not about any mana core destruction. For now, this was all the confirmation he had.
Even though everything looked completely unbelievable, the system’s notifications couldn’t be an error. Maybe the last time around, his core was very close to reaching a primordial core level, and because of some shortage, it became a legendary core.
And now, since the wyrm’s blood was added to the mix, his body pushed the core back to the primordial level?
This was the best explanation Damon could think of.
Actually, there was also something else. The wyrm was definitely not a simple draconic beast. It was a mutated beast. Now that he thought about it, this was the first time he had seen a wyrm with wings.
Maybe there was something in its mutation that reacted with its bloodline and somehow transmutated his core into becoming a primordial core?
Damon was out of explanations and answers. "Fuck it. Who am I to look a gift horse in the mouth? Maybe I will figure out what happened down the line. For now, I will just focus on healing my damn soul."
This time, he had really gained a lot. But after everything said and done, he had also paid an equal price for it. Now he had to find a way to make up for that loss.
Normally, this shouldn’t have happened. He should have peacefully won the purification raid and reaped big rewards from it, but now everything happened in a rush, and his soul was fucked up.
"Fucking bitches. I will pay back for this." Damon gritted his teeth as he started walking out of the cave. He then realized that it would take an entire day just to get to the nearest teleportation point with his current power level, and that is if he survived the trip.
He couldn’t really blame Ghost for this. The guy had, after all, done it for his own safety, and now it was biting him in the ass. The problem was how he was going to get out of this jam.
And there was also another thing he needed to do, for which time was of the essence.
Damon took out the item, which he had honestly not thought about in a while— the Elven princess Lirae’s token of vow. Without hesitation, he activated the token, and the next second, many, many light specs started coalescing together until they formed an elegant and beautiful figure.
They slowly resolved to become the graceful figure of Lirae Sylvaris, the elven princess, aka Damon’s betrothed. She was wearing her usual light elven armor, her long silver hair tied back, eyes sharp as ever. "I missed you." She spoke softly.
But the moment she saw Damon, her gaze shifted—she scanned him from head to toe, and her calm expression cracked slightly.
"You look terrible," she said, frowning. "What happened?"
"Long story," Damon muttered, steadying himself against the cave wall. "I got cooked, fried, stabbed, and soul-ripped. Pretty sure I died three times and just didn’t get the memo."
Lirae blinked, but didn’t smile. Her expression only grew more serious. "I can feel it through the token. Your mana is unstable. That shouldn’t be possible unless..."
"My soul took a hit," he admitted. "A big one. Everything in my body is messed up."
She didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she took a step forward and placed her right hand on his chest. She then leaned closer and unexpectedly placed her lips on Damon’s lips.
The kiss caught Damon off guard. For a second, the world around him went silent, just her warmth, her lips, and the faint scent of moonflowers clinging to her. And that was not all. A wave of nourishing, healing warmth spread across his body.
It started in his chest, right where her hand touched him, and slowly spread outward. It wasn’t just warmth; it was like something inside him had been untied, a tight knot that had been choking his energy flow now loosening ever so slightly. His head cleared. His breathing eased.
But then the next second, everything went right back to the way it was.
His injuries were simply resistant to healing, no matter what. "This is..." Lirae gasped as she finally pulled back.
