Chapter 989: Chapter 994: Suppression
What does this have to do with anything? Yang Yi being upset by Hegelhaus is more like it, how could he dare to deliberately upset Hegelhaus.
"Do you think that’s possible? Even though I was on the simulator, I have to fly with him again tomorrow. Do you think I would dare?"
Reggie sighed and then shrugged, "Well, that’s Hegelhaus’s own problem then. Hmm, I assume you must have performed very well again."
Yang Yi thought for a moment and said, "I guess so, I think no one at this training base has performed better than me so far."
Reggie gestured with his hand and said, "Let’s walk and talk, I think I need to explain something to you."
Yang Yi was curious about what Reggie wanted to say. After walking side by side for a while, Reggie finally whispered, "Actually, Hegelhaus isn’t really targeting you, he just feels... maybe, um, it’s a hard-to-explain kind of emotion."
Yang Yi spread his hands and said, "Do you think I did something wrong? If so, please tell me."
Reggie whispered, "You really didn’t do anything wrong. Mr. Hegelhaus comes from a family of aviators. His father was a top pilot, and so is he. He participated in the Gulf War, shot down six enemy planes. In the jet era, that’s a remarkable achievement. And his son... hmm, was also a very outstanding pilot."
Sounds like there’s a story there.
Reggie sighed and whispered, "Mr. Hegelhaus’s son became a carrier-based pilot at the age of 22, flying F-18E. Do you know what that means?"
"What?"
"He was really a genius, a young, brilliant pilot. Like you, a true genius, brilliant, exceptionally talented, passed tests in record time, became a pilot in the shortest time, and a carrier-based fighter pilot even faster. But Mr. Hegelhaus’s son died during his third landing on the carrier, he crashed directly into the deck, the plane exploded, and even his body couldn’t be recovered."
Yang Yi paused, "That happened?"
Reggie sighed, "When he first met you and wasn’t happy, it was because Hegelhaus doesn’t like his plans to be disrupted. He’s a military man who dislikes any spontaneous deviations from rules and standards. But that’s all, he just grumbles about the situation, not specifically at you. But your mastering the flight manual in one day, that’s different. He might think either someone is trying to trick him, or..."
"What?"
"You’re a genius."
"I’m a genius and that offends him?"
Reggie sighed, "As I said, Mr. Hegelhaus has no ill intentions. He believes that in flying, talent isn’t that important. You have to take flying seriously. But geniuses... they are usually overly confident, too self-centered, and they don’t respect flying enough, which can lead to accidents."
Yang Yi shrugged, "Because of his son?"
"Yes, instructor Hegelhaus was proud of his son. But after hearing the flight communications of the flight where his son died, he developed this view because at the time, other pilots waiting to land warned his son that his altitude was too low and his speed too fast, but his son didn’t heed their advice, he thought he could manage, but he died."
Reggie shrugged, "So, your being too much of a genius makes instructor Hegelhaus instinctively think you are arrogant, and he must use all means to beat down your confidence, to make you less arrogant. The better you perform, the harder he hits, he wants you to know that in the face of experience, so-called talent actually doesn’t have the upper hand, but... he seems to have failed."
The challenges Hegelhaus set for Yang Yi were solved; of course, Hegelhaus considered them challenges.
Yang Yi is the type of person who, if he does something, wants to do it best, and the better he does, the harder Hegelhaus has to find something to beat him down, but so far, Hegelhaus has failed.
Reggie spread his hands, "There’s nothing else to say, I just want to tell you, Hegelhaus is a top pilot and a very excellent flight instructor. CIA went to great lengths to bring him over from the Air Force. He’s very responsible for all his trainees, all of them, so he wouldn’t teach you unless he is fully responsible for you, so I think he will continue to suppress you, try all means to beat your pride, but he has no malice, you understand?"
"Now I understand, thank you for telling me all this, at least I definitely won’t hate him now."
Reggie smiled and then suddenly asked, "Did you get into a fight with someone from the combat training class yesterday?"
"Yeah, how did you know?"
"Word gets around in a training camp, there are no secrets here, especially if you stand out. It’s a CIA training camp, haha, just kidding. That’s right, some from the combat training class came looking for you in the flying class. They want to have a match with you today. I took the phone call, so I’m asking if you’re going."
Yang Yi hesitated, "What do you think?"
"As long as it doesn’t hurt or affect tomorrow’s flight, why not go?"
Yang Yi thought for a moment, "Alright, I’ll go."
Reggie burst into a happy laugh, "Then let’s eat quickly, and we’ll go together after eating."
"Why are you going too?"
"I want to see it. Men are naturally interested in these things. I’m going to ask Mr. Hegelhaus for some time off now. See you then."
Reggie hurried off, and Yang Yi felt that with Reggie’s attitude, if he went to the combat class, it might cause a stir.
But no matter what, he still had to go, if things got too awkward he could just back down, as long as it didn’t affect tomorrow’s flying.
Yang Yi returned to his quarters, ate dinner, and took a short nap on his bed, giving his tired brain some rest.
As expected, Reggie came to call Yang Yi, looking very excited, while Yang Yi didn’t feel much.
Today he might even spar with an instructor from the master class. However, given yesterday’s experience, the master class instructor didn’t seem all that great. Plus, another important thing, Yang Yi had spent quite some time with Brian and the others. Pandora Box is CIA’s strongest unit and a pure combat department, but when it comes to just combat, none of them could beat Zhang Yong.
So what was there to worry about? If necessary, today he might just grind a few instructors into the ground again.
