Chapter 981: Chapter 986 Must Be Full Marks

With nothing better to do, Yang Yi read through the flight manual again. He pored over it intermittently until he realized he had indeed memorized both manuals thoroughly and couldn’t spot any errors, at which point he finally ended this tedious learning process.

By ten o’clock, Yang Yi had hit the sack early, determined to be well-rested for the exam the next day.

Yang Yi didn’t know what time Mr. Hegelhaus would arrive, so after getting up early and having breakfast, he waited patiently until half-past eight before finally heading to Hegelhaus’s office.

After knocking on the door, Yang Yi entered when he heard the invitation to come in.

Wearing a baseball cap adorned with an airplane pattern and holding a magazine, with his feet propped up on the desk, Hegelhaus’s smile vanished as soon as he saw Yang Yi enter, his expression turning stern.

"What’s up?"

"Good morning, Mr. Hegelhaus. You said that once I memorized the two flight manuals, I could take the exam. I think I’m ready for the test, sir."

Hegelhaus’s face grew even darker, and he took a deep breath—clearly trying to suppress his rage.

"You said yesterday that you were an absolute beginner."

"Yes, sir."

"You got the flight manual yesterday, and now, first thing in the morning, you’re telling me you’re ready for the exam, meaning you’ve memorized two manuals, right?"

"Yes, sir."

"Fuck! It’s only been one day, and you’re telling me you’ve memorized everything? Do I look like someone who jokes around?"

Hegelhaus looked furious. Yang Yi opened his mouth, then said with a deep voice, "Sorry, sir, but I’m not joking with you, and I’m certainly not playing you. I’ve simply memorized the manuals and want to take the test. Isn’t it obvious whether I’ve truly memorized them as soon as I take the exam?"

Hegelhaus stared at Yang Yi for a long time. What else could Yang Yi do? He couldn’t just say that he should read a few more days and take the exam later. First of all, he couldn’t afford to waste the time; secondly... he really didn’t need to do that.

So Yang Yi’s gaze was unwavering, showing no sign of backing down. After a moment of eye contact with Hegelhaus, Hegelhaus suddenly twisted his head and yelled out, "Reggie! Bring two test papers!"

Yang Yi didn’t know what he had done to offend Hegelhaus, to make the old man look so fierce.

Reggie came out with two sets of test papers, looking very surprised to see Yang Yi.

Reggie placed the papers on the desk, and Hegelhaus slapped his hand down on them and pushed them forward, staring menacingly at Yang Yi, "The assessment starts now, right here, on this desk! I’ll be watching you myself, Reggie, get him a chair."

This was getting bizarre and weird; was Hegelhaus really picking a fight?

Yang Yi’s stubbornness kicked in. Take the test then, let him watch; was he supposed to be scared?

Yang Yi remained calm, sat down as soon as the chair arrived, and accepted the pen handed to him by Hegelhaus himself.

Yang Yi started to look over the test. It was all multiple choice questions, forty in total, with thirty correct answers considered passing and thirty-five excellent.

Yang Yi was reviewing the questions, a habit of his, while Hegelhaus sneered, "Getting thirty answers correct lets you proceed to flight training. But I’ve got some bad news for you. I’m quite strict, so unless you get at least thirty-five correct, don’t even think about it..."

Yang Yi began to write.

With the invigilator right across the table, Hegelhaus’s loud voice was enough to spray saliva on Yang Yi’s face, and he was deliberately putting psychological pressure on Yang Yi. Any ordinary person with poor mental strength facing this situation wouldn’t be able to proceed with the exam.

But Yang Yi wasn’t affected in the least.

With remarkable speed, Yang Yi began answering the questions almost without pause, his pen flying across the paper.

Hegelhaus was stunned once again and bellowed, "Are you playing with me!"

Yang Yi suddenly stopped writing, put the pen down on the desk, and thrust the paper in front of Hegelhaus.

With a calm expression, Yang Yi smiled and said, "I’ve finished. Please check."

It took forty-six seconds from when Yang Yi started writing to when he handed in the paper.

Hegelhaus didn’t take the paper; his eyes were wide, and after a long moment of shock, Reggie hesitantly reached to take the paper.

Suddenly, Hegelhaus snatched the paper, saying indifferently, "I have hands."

Yang Yi smiled and said, "I’m going to start answering the helicopter section now."

Yang Yi’s pen drop was forceful; he was defiant, or rather, he was using the strongest attitude he could muster to deal with Hegelhaus’s hostility.

Yang Yi reviewed the questions again, quickly scanned through them, and began writing again, completing all the multiple-choice questions in thirty-five seconds.

Indeed, some questions truly required thought because they were designed with traps—after all, this was a CIA exam, not a civil aviation pilot’s license test.

After finishing, Yang Yi put down the pen again and said with an indifferent face, "I’m done. If it’s not a perfect score, I voluntarily give up passing this exam. Is there anything else, sir?"

Hegelhaus’s lips quivered, but he remained silent.

He quickly reviewed Yang Yi’s test, and there was a question for which he couldn’t confirm the correct answer, so he had to get Reggie to bring the answer key.

After checking, Hegelhaus laid the test paper on the desk, picked up the second one, looked it over, and then began to stare at Yang Yi again.

Yang Yi had already stood up from the chair, and facing Hegelhaus’s gaze, he smiled nonchalantly, "Perfect score, right, sir?"

Hegelhaus took a deep breath, then said to Reggie, "So our test has leaked, hasn’t it?"

Reggie hesitated for a moment before replying quietly, "This test is being used for the first time. It’s prepared for this term’s students, sir. We’ve never used this test before."

Hegelhaus fell silent, pondering for a moment before looking up at Yang Yi with a smile, "Regardless of how you got the answers, it doesn’t matter. That’s your ability."

Yang Yi felt helpless but couldn’t communicate with Hegelhaus, so he just shrugged nonchalantly.

"May I begin flight training now, sir?"

Hegelhaus should have been furious, though for reasons unknown, yet at this moment, he broke into a smile.

"No, from now on, you will call me instructor, because I’ve decided to teach you how to fly myself. And according to my rules, before you start on the machine, you must pass all my written exams."
