Chapter 855: Chapter 860: A Person Who Understands

Wilson indeed had transaction records.

Yang Yi wasn’t simply testing the waters. From Wilson’s eyes and the tone of his voice, Yang Yi felt certain that Wilson possessed records of transactions or a ledger of some sort, and he had to get his hands on it. It wasn’t for anything else but to ensure Eric’s safety.

Why keep a record of all transactions? Wilson wasn’t wrong—a record was incriminating evidence. But despite understanding that, why had Wilson kept it anyway?

The reason was simple. In dealing with people like Eric, Wilson always had to stay on guard. Thus, these transaction records were not only his criminal proof but also a weapon to deter people like Eric. If Eric ever desired to silence someone permanently, he would have to consider whether Wilson might go down fighting, taking everyone with him.

But Wilson was too weak to withstand pressure. A few broken fingers and a bloody hole gouged into his leg were all it took for him to quickly surrender his lifeline.

There was no helping it; that was the limitation of people like Wilson. He neither planned to nor had the strength to delve into the underworld, yet all those he dealt with were from those ranks. Wilson’s only reliance was still the law.

Wilson was no scholar, and Yang Yi was no soldier, but the rules that Wilson depended on were of no consequence to Yang Yi. Therein lay the problem, and so, Wilson could only meet a tragic end.

Dragging his injured leg, Wilson was half-dragged and half-supported by Yang Yi into the kitchen. Then, from the dining table, Yang Yi picked up a box of tissue papers, flipped the box upside down, and trembling with only one hand free, Wilson opened the lid, spilling out a black, sealed notebook.

Had Wilson not taken out the notebook himself, Yang Yi would never have found it. He assumed that Wilson would’ve stored secret records on a computer or locked them away in a safe. But it seemed Wilson truly believed in the saying that the most dangerous place is also the safest. He had hidden the notebook in plain sight, which made it quite difficult to locate.

Yang Yi took the notebook and flipped through it.

The notebook meticulously cataloged profiles of several individuals: names, appearances, transaction details, and dates. Impressively, Wilson even attached photos under each person’s name.

A small photo, just passport-size, clearly taken covertly. Seeing Eric’s photo at the forefront, along with details of each transaction, Yang Yi suddenly found it almost laughable.

Keeping such detailed transaction records, crafting such complete personal profiles—for Wilson, what was the significance of doing such?

Yang Yi closed the notebook and slipped it into his pocket. Then, he whispered to Wilson, "I’m sorry."

Wilson was taken aback. He raised his voice slightly, "What did you say? What do you mean?"

Seeing Wilson’s panic-stricken eyes, Yang Yi whispered, "I said I’m sorry. I’m really sorry for disturbing you tonight. It’s okay now, I won’t hurt you. You are safe; I’m leaving now."

Wilson found it hard to believe, but at that moment, he was overcome with uncontrollable joy, because, after all, being alive was all that mattered.

Yang Yi nodded and said, "Then, goodbye."

Yang Yi turned away, while Eric appeared utterly astonished. At that moment, Yang Yi suddenly spun around, his knife stabbing lightning-fast into Wilson’s neck from the side.

The blade pierced straight into the back of the brain—Wilson’s death was instant.

Eric was stunned, as Yang Yi held Wilson, gently laying him on the ground. Then he extracted the knife, and said to a bewildered Eric, "Actually... I just wanted him to die a little happier, to pass away in a sense of bliss."

Eric covered his mouth. After a long sigh, he nodded in agreement.

Wilson had to die; how could he possibly live on?

Eric didn’t hesitate either, he pointed towards the distant bedroom, implying there was still one more.

Yang Yi looked at Eric and whispered, "How about you do it?"

Eric hesitated a moment, then he shook his head and said, "I’m not quite cut out for this, maybe you should finish it off with me."

Wilson was dead, how could his wife possibly live on?

Wilson’s wife might have been innocent or maybe not, but how could Yang Yi dare to leave a loose end? Since he dared not leave any, did it still matter whether Wilson’s wife was innocent?

Yang Yi didn’t want to kill, and of course he wouldn’t if he had any other choice, but now he had none. What are the laws of the jungle, what is the underworld – this was it.

But Yang Yi didn’t want to get his hands dirty himself, not because he lacked the heart to do it, but for other reasons.

Yang Yi shook his head at Eric and then he said softly, "Buddy, I really didn’t want to kill you."

Eric’s face turned deathly pale, he nodded and said in a low voice, "I understand."

Eric reached out his hand towards Yang Yi, but Yang Yi shook his head; his knife was not to be lent to anyone.

So, Eric went into the kitchen, picked up a chef’s knife, walked from the kitchen to the living room, and headed towards Wilson’s and his wife’s bedroom.

Standing at the bedroom door, Eric took a deep breath, swung the knife in his hand, and then twisted the doorknob open.

Yang Yi didn’t go inside, he just stood at the entrance to the bedroom, and as soon as he saw Eric enter with the knife, Wilson’s wife was initially stunned and then let out a piercing scream.

Eric pounced, his technique was not very professional, but Wilson’s wife quickly stopped screaming.

Eric, pale-faced but with a murderous vibe, turned to leave with the blood-dripping knife but then paused, turned back, and stabbed the woman lying on the bed three more times.

Eric walked off with the knife, he went to the kitchen sink, carefully washed the blade, and then began to wash his hands, while Yang Yi walked to the bedside, felt the woman’s neck for a while, picked up his hand, and whispered to the woman lying in the pool of blood, "I’m sorry."

Yang Yi trusted his own handiwork, but while he trusted Eric’s determination, he did not trust Eric’s technique.

Having confirmed the woman was dead, Yang Yi did not stop; he thoroughly searched every room and corner of Wilson’s house to be certain there was no third person, then he said softly to Eric, who was waiting for him in the living room, "We can go now."

Eric let out a breath, then in a low voice, he said, "How about we start a fire before we leave?"

Yang Yi thought for a moment and said, "That’s possible."

Eric looked towards the kitchen and said, "How about using the gas?"

"That’s not good, gas can cause deflagration, but if you want to completely destroy the traces, a big fire is better."

Eric nodded and said, "Then let’s hurry up, we better be quick."
