Chapter 781: Chapter 786: Going All In

Ukraine is a land of disputes, and Yang Yi felt good to be able to leave. The war between Big Ivan and Deyo was very dangerous, and a slight misstep could have involved him. Now that his objective was complete, it was time to withdraw quickly.

Of course, there was still the commission from Justin that remained unfulfilled, but Yang Yi planned to return to Ukraine after the war between Deyo and Big Ivan ended. Judging by the posture Gong Yang had adopted, Deyo wouldn’t last much longer, so it didn’t matter whether Deyo was fighting Big Ivan or clashing with Gong Yang—the war was nearly over.

Once he had some downtime, Yang Yi couldn’t help but reflect on the events that had transpired recently.

Old arms behemoths fall and new arms dealers rise—that was nothing out of the ordinary. But the thought that Gong Yang, a fellow Chinese and someone just as young as he, would replace Big Ivan and defeat Deyo lacked a sense of reality for Yang Yi.

God knows how Gong Yang did it, but everyone knew that once Gong Yang took Big Ivan’s place, a new underworld giant was inevitably going to rise powerfully.

Thinking of Gong Yang brought Yarebin to mind, and naturally, Jethro as well.

If Jethro still refused to give up, still hoping to win some status from Deyo through his performance, he was certainly going to die.

Whether it was Black Devil or Gong Yang, their combat strength was too strong, like an extremely sharp knife. Perhaps they weren’t qualified arms dealers, but they excelled in battle, whether fair and open or secret. The alliance of Gong Yang and a bunch of Black Devils was indeed too powerful, too terrifying.

So, if Jethro hadn’t left Ukraine and also refused to leave, he was certainly going to die.

Yang Yi, feeling guilty about Jethro, couldn’t help but sigh.

Just then, the phone rang.

When he saw the incoming number, Yang Yi was quite astonished. He was clear that he didn’t have the ability to attract what he was thinking about, but as he was thinking of Jethro, Jethro’s call came through, which was somewhat astonishing to him.

Jethro, who had agreed to sever ties and go their separate ways, was calling. To answer or not to answer? Yang Yi rarely hesitated.

But it was only a moment of hesitation before Yang Yi answered the call.

"Robot..."

Jethro just called out Yang Yi’s name and then fell silent.

"I’m listening."

Jethro let out a long sigh and then slowly said, "You, I’m looking for you because I want to... never mind."

The call was disconnected. After hesitantly speaking a few words, Jethro hung up the phone.

Jethro was being inexplicable, but Yang Yi didn’t have to guess to know what Jethro wanted to do. If it weren’t for realizing that he was at a dead end, Jethro would never make this call.

That Jethro had fallen to his current plight was indeed a responsibility Yang Yi couldn’t shirk.

Yang Yi understood that if he ignored Jethro’s call, it was very likely that Jethro would call him again. Jethro’s abrupt ending of the call was only because he had not yet faced a desperate situation. Once Jethro truly had nowhere to turn and did not want to die, he would have no choice but to seek Yang Yi’s help.

The one-time employer was doomed. If Jethro truly had no other options, it would be effortless for Yang Yi to recruit him under his command. It all depended on whether Jethro would be of any use to him. If so, Yang Yi could effortlessly provide protection for Jethro. Of course, from then on, Jethro could only be his subordinate.

Calling Jethro back proactively might not yield the best outcome. The ideal moment would be when Jethro was in a corner and had to swallow his pride to ask Yang Yi for help.

Of course, that presupposed that Jethro was of use. If Jethro was of no use to Yang Yi, why bother with his wellbeing?

But a guilt-ridden Yang Yi hardly hesitated and promptly returned Jethro’s call.

Jethro answered Yang Yi’s call quickly, but once the call was connected, Jethro remained silent for a long time.

Yang Yi sighed and then whispered, "Jethro, what happened?"

Jethro’s voice was filled with helplessness as he whispered, "Deyo sent people to Ukraine, he’s going to take me out. I think...I’m finished. Could you, could you help me get Boyata to a safe place?"

Yang Yi fell silent for a moment, then whispered, "Jethro, you could handle this yourself. Boyata’s injury should be mostly healed by now, and if you leave now with him, there should be no problem. Why do you insist on staying and facing death?"

After saying that, Yang Yi hesitated but eventually whispered, "If you can’t get away now, I can help you leave Ukraine. I owe you that much. This will be the last time I help you, to take you to a safe place. After that, we’ll be even."

Jethro let out a low sigh, "I got word that Nicholas is coming."

After a long sigh, Jethro continued in a low voice, "Nicholas is already in Ukraine now. Deyo has succumbed to him. He’d rather nurture a rival for himself than let this war with Big Ivan end. Moreover, with the support of the United States, Nicholas replacing Deyo has become inevitable. So, I’m finished."

The news Jethro revealed was so shocking that Yang Yi momentarily felt overwhelmed by it.

Nicholas was Deyo’s underling, still is, but Nicholas was no longer under Deyo’s control. Thus, Deyo had used all the forces he could mobilize, except for the uncontrollable Nicholas.

Now, with no other options left, Deyo had finally resorted to using Nicholas.

However, this meant that Jethro truly had no reason to exist anymore.

Yang Yi swallowed hard and whispered, "So what’s your situation now?"

Jethro, sounding utterly defeated, said, "Deyo tried to appease me. He told me a temporary setback meant nothing, and he said he had already rallied troops to Ukraine, leaving everything up to me. But, a friend told me that Deyo chose Nicholas. He’d rather split his power in half to give to Nicholas just to take out Big Ivan. Deyo didn’t tell me the person he sent was Nicholas, so it’s clear he wants me dead. His reassurance was just to keep me stable, waiting for Nicholas to arrive and seal my fate."

As expected, Jethro was abandoned. Deyo’s reassurances were only meant to stabilize him. Although Jethro now had no men of his own, siding with Big Ivan could still cause significant trouble for Deyo, which is why Deyo was keeping him in place.

Yang Yi spoke in a stern voice, "How did you get this message? Is it reliable?"

Jethro took a breath and said, "It’s from one of Deyo’s men, a competitor of Nicholas. So while he’s not my friend, the message is absolutely accurate."
