Chapter 770: Chapter 775 Restart
Brian turned around and stared at Yang Yi.
Yang Yi pointed to his own nose, then quickly walked up to Annastasia, expressing his surprise, "For me?"
Annastasia, with an impassive face, said, "If you are Danny, then this is for you."
Yang Yi was fed up with people like Danny giving him nicknames. Why did they have to call him "Danny"? It was infuriating, especially since he’d slowly become accustomed to it.
In the world of adventure, a nickname is very important.
A nickname like "Danny" lacked any sense of dread when called out. What was most annoying was that Yang Yi was clearly no longer a newbie, yet he still had to be called Danny, a nickname which was even worse than newbie. He would have preferred to be called "Bad Egg."
Yang Yi felt helpless, but he couldn’t help glancing at Brian when he took the two pieces of paper.
Brian’s face had turned green.
Yang Yi quickly took the documents then turned to leave, thinking it best not to get in the way of Brian and Annastasia’s affair. Otherwise, if Brian’s resentment burst forth, he couldn’t bear it.
Yang Yi looked at the contents of the paper, stopped in his tracks, then, shocked, he looked at Annastasia and exclaimed loudly, "Is this true?"
The content of the intelligence was indeed shocking, as the first sentence read, "Aaron, a triple spy, suspected to be related to the Grey-cloaked People."
No wonder Yang Yi was so shocked. Considering Mike’s death and the deep hatred between Brian and Aaron, the Organization of Water would have to fight to the end against Aaron, the CIA official. But Yang Yi never expected that Aaron could be connected with the Grey-cloaked People.
Annastasia said solemnly, "This is not evidence. It’s a list compiled by Yarebin from memory, recording all the transactions he had with Aaron. If Yarebin says it’s true, then it is true."
It was true, but not usable as evidence, which was quite normal. Because someone of Aaron’s level would not leave any leverage for the Soviet Union unless he was determined to defect there. Therefore, he would certainly try not to leave any evidence.
Even if Yarebin had personally met with Aaron, it was not always him who met with Aaron to pass on information. There were many ways to transmit intelligence, and not every exchange required a meeting.
So Yarebin might know what intelligence Aaron had provided to the Soviet Union, but the problem was that he wouldn’t always leave evidence. And even if he had left evidence, after the Soviet Union collapsed, he couldn’t possibly have kept it all.
Thus, the words on this paper were just Yarebin’s side of the story, not evidence, and definitely not enough to bring down Aaron.
But just because it couldn’t be used as evidence didn’t mean that the content on the paper was meaningless. On the contrary, the intelligence was of utmost importance.
Yang Yi, in a low urgent voice, asked, "Why does Yarebin suspect Aaron is with the Grey-cloaked People?"
Annastasia indifferently replied, "What I know is no more than what you do. If it’s not recorded on this paper, you should ask Yarebin personally, not me."
Yang Yi exhaled and said, "So why would Yarebin, who asserted he wouldn’t offer any help, be willing to provide this intelligence?"
Annastasia looked at Brian and said, "Yarebin said Brian was just rubbish to be used. Since he was certain to seek revenge on Aaron, it was better to tell him who the mole is. But he didn’t want to waste too much effort on Brian. You are different. Yarebin thinks you are smart, giving you this information could help you take down Aaron more quickly."
Yang Yi let out a sigh, then smiled and said, "It seems Yarebin is convinced I would go against Aaron."
Annastasia replied calmly, "I don’t know what your relationship is, but if Yarebin thinks you’ll go against Aaron, then he must be right. Even if this information is useless to you, it’s not a loss for him."
Yang Yi glanced at Brian and noticed that Brian’s gaze seemed as if he wanted to skin him alive, so he said sheepishly, "You two chat, please continue."
Yang Yi hurriedly walked away, while Brian gathered his energy but didn’t know what to say.
Annastasia looked toward Brian again.
With Annastasia’s interruption, Brian’s previous emotion and impulsivity had waned, and his self-respect mattered too.
After looking at Brian for a long time, Annastasia finally said softly, "Did you say you want to start over?"
Brian nodded emphatically, then said in a deep voice, "I love you, I’ve always loved you deeply! If you don’t want to face the past, can we start over?"
Annastasia spoke softly, "Actually, I’ve gotten used to being alone, and honestly, I’ve always treated you as if you were already dead. So your sudden appearance truly made me feel overwhelmed and even a bit afraid. I don’t even know how to face you."
After a pause, Annastasia sighed, "The Soviet Union is no more, and you’ve already betrayed the United States. There’s no longer the biggest obstacle between us, so starting over seems like a good choice. If we both still love each other, we can truly live together. If one of us discovers that we can’t accept the other anymore, then we can also end it here, truly and completely."
Brian nodded and said tremulously, "Exactly, that’s right. That’s very good."
Annastasia said calmly, "So, what do you plan to do with your time next?"
Brian took a deep breath and then, with a look of longing, said, "I have some money. We can find a quiet place, buy a farm. If you don’t like a farm, we could live somewhere with beautiful scenery, live peacefully... uh, or we could go to some city, a city where no one bothers us. As long as it’s a place you like, that’s where we’ll go. We can spend our remaining years in peace..."
Brian couldn’t continue because Annastasia was looking at him with a puzzled and baffled expression.
Brian immediately corrected himself, "Of course, that was just something I idly thought about in prison. What kind of life do you want? Where do you want to go? I’m okay with anything, going anywhere doesn’t matter, as long as you’re happy."
Annastasia opened her handbag; she took out a pack of cigarettes and placed a slim lady’s cigarette in her mouth.
Brian was somewhat startled, but he quickly took out his lighter and held the flame in front of Annastasia.
Annastasia lit the cigarette, her movements graceful. Even though she had aged, her gestures were still charming.
"Aaron caused you so much suffering, I’ve thought about settling the score with him. Don’t you want to?"
Brian immediately said, "Of course I do! How could I not? I must get rid of Aaron; I just don’t want to drag you into it..."
Annastasia exhaled a puff of smoke to the side, then her gaze took on a somewhat scornful expression, "Are you afraid I’ll get dragged into danger?"
Brian laughed, "Yes, uh, I mean no. Well, when did you learn to smoke?"
