Chapter 750: Chapter 755: The Authorities Are Baffled
Yarebin had been inquiring about Deyo, which suggested he wanted to eliminate him, a good thing for both Yang Yi and the entire Organization of Water.
While the personal grudge between Yang Yi and Deyo wasn’t that significant, the demise of Kate’s parents and the entire community of singers, although executed by the Destroyer, had its roots in Deyo. Hence, Yang Yi felt both a moral obligation and a necessity to eliminate Deyo, both for the survival of the Organization of Water and for retribution.
After wiping out the Fearless Mercenary Corps and Deyo’s loyalists this time, if Deyo himself didn’t die, then it was Yang Yi and his people, including Jethro, who should die.
So when Black Devil wanted to kill Deyo, Yang Yi was of course all for it, ready to support the idea with all his might. Having this extremely powerful team take action on their behalf was an opportunity too good to resist.
Therefore, Yang Yi couldn’t understand why Brian didn’t just reveal Deyo’s whereabouts but chose to conceal them instead.
Yang Yi had thought about telling Brian to just inform Yarebin where Black Devil was, but after some reflection, he decided to hold back.
Brian was no fool. There had to be some consideration or concern for his current silence, so they shouldn’t rush things. It was better to let Brian handle things on his own.
After Brian pleaded earnestly for Yarebin to tell him the whereabouts of Annastasia, this time Yarebin did not play coy.
"Not far from Odessa on the coast of the Black Sea, there’s an unnamed sanatorium, a secret retreat of the KGB, which of course could also be used to detain a person."
Yang Yi could hear Brian’s rapid breathing, but nobody spoke. After a while, Yarebin’s voice rang out again.
"Until the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Annastasia lived there. The internal code for the place was Sanatorium Number Seven, but it housed people with mental issues, so you could consider it a mental institution. However, everything changed after the Soviet Union collapsed, so I don’t know her current location."
Brian’s voice trembled, "But what about a precise address? Please, give me the exact address!"
Yarebin said, "I should remember the address because I’ve been there. It’s on the southern coastline of Odessa, a cape jutting out into the sea. On the north side of the cape, there’s an unremarkable sanatorium with no name. Locals are forbidden to approach, but I remember that not less than two kilometers south of the cape, there lies an ordinary seaside sanatorium. You can follow this clue to start your search; it’s been decades, but I hope you can still find some hints."
Brian’s voice trembled again, "In Ukraine, in Odessa, are you not deceiving me? Can you guarantee you are not deceiving me this time?"
Yarebin sighed, "Everything is in the past. Back then, we all did what we did for our countries. Now, the Soviet Union is no more, we’ve lost everything. As someone who shares a common fate with you, and now that you pose no threat, why would I deceive you?"
All Brian did was breathe heavily, while Yarebin spoke solemnly, "Go. At least give it a try. You might find some hope."
Brian whispered, "Yes, as long as one lives, there is hope. Thank you. Let’s forget past grievances and have nothing to do with each other from now on. Thank you."
After Brian finished speaking, Anton suddenly said, "Is that it? Boss, just like that?"
Brian shouted, "Enough, let it be, I can’t struggle anymore. Do you think we can surely beat them both? No, no, pal, let’s end it here. I have been waiting for nearly thirty years. I can’t wait any longer."
Yang Yi could hear footsteps; Brian was walking away quickly, and after waiting for a while, Anton cursed softly under his breath.
What’s wrong with Anton?
Yang Yi was now very happy, very anxious, very shocked, and also somewhat disappointed.
He was happy because Brian had finally found the whereabouts of Kate, no, of Annastasia; anxious because who knows if what Yarebin said was true; shocked by Anton’s attitude—he had met the captain of the Black Devil, but he showed no excitement, instead, he was very hostile, which Yang Yi found incredible.
As for the disappointment, it was because Brian hadn’t told Yarebin Deyo’s address.
Why hadn’t Brian said it? It wouldn’t take long to find out.
Brian had returned, and Anton was with him.
Brian didn’t seem particularly excited. He stood next to the car and after quietly surveying the group of people watching him, he suddenly said, "Why are you all standing there in a daze? Let’s go and start thinking about how we’re going to face Jethro; if I had to suggest a solution, the simplest way would be to kill him."
Yang Yi exclaimed in shock, "We can’t kill him!"
Brian shrugged and said, "That’s what I thought, so you go ahead and worry about how to deal with him."
Yang Yi cautiously said, "Brian, why don’t you seem excited at all?"
Brian just shook his head gently.
Kate, who had been planning to congratulate Brian, was holding back with a red face. Xiao Ran was stuttering and didn’t know what to say, while Paul asked nervously, "Boss, are you alright?"
Brian said in a low voice, "Remember what I said? Not a single word from the Black Devil can be trusted. I hope that what Yarebin said is all true; I desperately want it to be the truth, but I dare not believe his words, because the greater the hope, the greater the disappointment. If I take Yarebin’s words seriously, then if I can’t find Kate, I won’t be able to handle it. But if I consider his words to be false, then... I’ll feel a little better."
Xiao Ran couldn’t help saying, "You don’t believe Yarebin’s words? Then why did you let him go?"
Brian spread his hands and said softly, "Because I’ve already lost. I had no way of keeping him here, and since I couldn’t keep him, of course I had to let him go."
Everyone fell silent, and Brian said with a sad face, "I had the chance to kill them directly but I didn’t. I hope he didn’t recognize me, but since he did, and from the moment I asked them to come out, Yarebin had already won; I knew it, and so did he."
Yang Yi said in a low voice, "I thought you hadn’t noticed his psychological tactics."
Brian smiled and said, "Actually, I really didn’t realize that he was using psychological tactics. You all could see it, but I couldn’t because every word he said hit me right in the heart. When he said that Kate... no, that Anna was already dead, I was no longer able to think rationally. So your reminder was very useful to me, or else my psychological defenses would have completely collapsed."
It’s a case of not seeing the wood for the trees, which was what Brian wanted to convey.
For the Black Devil, who was extremely good at manipulating people, Brian, who was obsessively paranoid, was psychologically defenseless, a plaything at his mercy.
