Chapter 748: Chapter 753 Psychological Tactics
Hearing Yarebin’s words, Yang Yi suddenly realized why Yarebin had spoken them.
In extremely unfavorable circumstances, voicing something that could likely get himself killed seemed like a suicidal act, but in actuality, it was merely a psychological tactic.
Yarebin knew what Brian most wanted to know — Brian wanted to know the whereabouts of Kate, also known as Annastasia. With Yarebin cornered by Brian, if Yarebin told him what he wanted to hear, Brian, harboring great hostility and wariness towards Yarebin, would definitely not believe him. Therefore, Yarebin did the opposite.
He first spoke the words that Brian least wanted to hear, the words Brian was most afraid of. Since these words, if spoken, would lead to death, Brian would naturally believe everything he said was true.
And after Brian believed him, Yarebin would then reveal the actual truth.
Perhaps it wasn’t the truth, but just having been spurred to madness by the bad news, Brian, hoping for a different outcome due to his love for Annastasia, would wish for Yarebin to provide an alternative result — a result he wanted to hear.
If a person hopes to be deceived, then they will certainly be deceived.
The Black Devil was truly too skilled at manipulating people’s hearts.
With a simple psychological tactic, Brian’s psychological defenses were breached.
There was nothing he could do; that’s the consequence of desire. If Yarebin had spoken about someone else, Brian might have already blown his head off with a shot, but Yarebin spoke of Annastasia.
Yang Yi didn’t know if Brian had understood the subtleties of the situation. He felt such child’s play psychological tactics should be simple for Brian, but seeing Brian already trembling with excitement, it seemed he no longer had any confidence.
Brian had become foolish, standing there motionless. Yang Yi felt he should remind Brian of something, but he was afraid Brian was playing a reverse-psychological tactic.
Just then, Anton stepped forward and shouted loudly, "Old man, go to hell!"
Yarebin coldly responded to Anton, "Do you think you have the right to call me ’old man’?"
Brian raised his hand to stop Anton and then looked up to the sky as he sighed, "You’ve won!"
Yarebin pointed towards the nearby woods and said, "Go there, it’s quieter. As for the others, let them go. I have a suggestion; let’s not chat with C4 in our hands."
Yarebin turned to the sharpshooter behind him and said, "Come with me, you need to learn a thing or two. Put down your guns and all that stuff, we don’t need those anymore."
Anton immediately objected, "No way."
Brian, with a look of helplessness, said, "Do as he says. I don’t have a choice. I’ve been waiting for decades, I can’t let this opportunity slip away. You all leave; I will talk with him."
Brian tossed the detonator to the ground and handed his pistol to Yang Yi.
Yang Yi gently shook his head at Brian, who in turn gave Yang Yi a bitter smile.
It was then that Anton said in a deep voice, "I must go too."
Brian hesitated for a moment, then he nodded gently.
Yang Yi knew Brian would never let him follow because Brian might end up dying together with Brian in the end, so he couldn’t be by his side. As for Anton, Brian didn’t have the close relationship or sentiment to be concerned about.
The formidable sharpshooter took the detonator from Yarebin’s hand and whispered, "Ready for demolition, we’re about to tear down the house."
With a loud boom, the building was completely blasted into debris. However, the explosion, while powerful, wasn’t nearly what two tons of explosives should have achieved.
Anton said coldly, "There wasn’t even two hundred kilograms of C4 here, let alone two tons!"
Yarebin smiled and said, "Alright, now let’s go talk."
The five members of Black Devil immediately evacuated. They got into their car and drove off, while Yang Yi and the others retreated south at Brian’s signal.
With both sides losing the basis to maintain a balance of terror, Yang Yi did not like this development. They had the upper hand originally, but when Black Devil left only two people behind, Yang Yi and his team’s advantage vanished. Nonetheless, there was no choice. Since all of this was for Brian’s sake from the start, the Organization of Water, of course, had no more choice than Brian did.
Yang Yi had no choice but to leave as well, and he immediately said urgently into the walkie-talkie, "Hans, Brian has a bug on him. Send me the audio collected by the bug immediately."
The bug had specialized equipment to receive its signal, so Yang Yi couldn’t hear it. However, the car Hans was driving had a complete set of eavesdropping equipment. It could convert the signals collected by the bug into sound and then transmit it to Yang Yi via radio.
Yang Yi received the audio quickly, and the first thing he heard was, "Annastasia isn’t dead."
As expected, Yarebin’s use of this psychological tactic was simple but very effective.
Complex tactics don’t always work, and some simple tactics become classic precisely because they are effective. Psychological tactics are no different.
If a conspiracy is exposed, it loses all its effects, but a declared strategy, even if seen through by others, doesn’t matter; otherwise, it can’t be called a declared strategy. And Yarebin’s psychological tactic was just that.
Yang Yi immediately said into the walkie-talkie, "Brian, stay calm. This is just a simple psychological tactic. Don’t let him lead you by the nose."
Brian did not respond. He might have known this was Yarebin’s tactic, or he might not have, and Yang Yi really couldn’t tell at this moment.
After a long while, Brian’s voice trembled, "How can I believe what you’re saying now?"
"From now on, everything I say will be the truth."
Yarebin’s statement was laughable, but Brian actually said, "I believe you’re telling the truth. Please, continue."
Yang Yi felt that Yarebin was about to say what Brian wanted to hear, but incredibly, Yarebin said, "I’m not going to say it."
Yang Yi was still very calm, but after hearing Yarebin’s words, he couldn’t maintain his composure anymore.
Even though Yarebin had gained the upper hand, why would he provoke Brian again?
"What the hell do you want!"
Brian’s voice sounded desperate.
Accompanied by the rhythmic tap tap of a cane, Yarebin laughed and said, "I will tell you everything, and I assure you it’s the truth. But first, you need to tell me why you are here."
"I’m here to solve problems for someone. Deyo and I had cooperated before, and now he’s in a pretty bad spot. He said a few old men in Kiev were giving him no peace, and he didn’t have the right people to deal with these old men. So, he asked me to come."
Hearing Brian’s words, Yang Yi felt a little reassured because Brian was spouting nonsense again. This meant that he hadn’t lost his reason—at least he still had the capacity to lie to Yarebin.
