Chapter 725: Chapter 731: Get to Know Each Other

Yang Yi followed Jethro into a safe house where they met Francois.

Francois entered the safe house with just two men, still somewhat cautious of Jethro. Although the men accompanying him didn’t carry their guns in their hands, the weapons were within easy reach in case anything out of the ordinary were detected and they needed to open fire at a moment’s notice. Moreover, most of the members were left outside, ready to provide backup in case they walked into a trap.

But the ones who entered with Francois were from Deyo’s direct lineage.

"Just a few of you?"

Surprised at Jethro’s meager company, Francois said, "So few of you came with him?" Jethro replied with a helpless expression, "Taking too many people along easily draws attention, buddy. I’m in charge here now, but our current situation isn’t good, you understand, don’t you?"

Francois nodded and said in a deep voice, "Of course, the situation is very bad."

Jethro gestured with his hand and said, "Sit, please sit down everyone. McGregor, have all your brothers arrived?"

A middle-aged man around forty nodded and said in a low voice, "Of course, everyone is waiting outside. I’ve received a call from the boss, and from now on, we will follow your orders."

McGregor was from Deyo’s direct lineage and highly trusted by Deyo. Naturally, such absolute trust came with reasons and a price; both were due to the fact that McGregor and the men he led were completely under Deyo’s control.

The Fearless Mercenary Corps were hired by Deyo; they would be paid to fight when needed and otherwise go their separate ways, maintaining only a long-term cooperative relationship. There was comradeship, but without money, such comradeship meant nothing.

But McGregor was different. As the strongest force owned by Deyo, they had to be under the strictest control and, of course, receive the best treatment Deyo could offer.

They received high, fixed salaries every month, but they weren’t the only ones giving their lives over to Deyo—their family members were also under Deyo’s surveillance and control. To gain absolute trust, one had to pay a price. In the underground world where binding forces are scarce, relying solely on feelings and discipline is certainly not enough—the common practice is to take control of family members.

Therefore, Francois, the leader of the Fearless Mercenary Corps, still harbored doubts about Jethro. He could first try to make contact, and only after determining Jethro was trustworthy would he continue with the mission he had been given. McGregor, however, was different; he had to obey each of Deyo’s commands without question. If Deyo ordered him to listen to Jethro, then he had to follow Jethro’s commands completely.

That was the current situation: Francois still intended to test the waters, but McGregor was entirely under Jethro’s command.

After asking both men to sit down, Jethro said with a serious face, "We’ve all been attacked. Now tell me about your situation. McGregor, have you had any casualties?"

McGregor nodded and said in a low voice, "Two dead, one critically injured, and three lightly wounded. Including myself, we are now fifteen men in total. That’s all we’ve got."

Francois spread his hands and said softly, "My men fared a bit better, only two were grazed by stray bullets and sustained minor injuries. We were at the back when the attack happened, so we were in a slightly better situation."

Jethro took a deep breath and asked, "What about Ferdinand, his men?"

Francois replied in a somber tone, "Heavy losses, over a dozen dead, only four left who can act with us. They were at the front when we were attacked, almost taking the full brunt of the gunfire."

Jethro nodded and said in a grave tone, "You must have all received the boss’s notice that we need to continue the fight. We are currently facing a crisis, but we also have a turning point, which is the possibility of locating Big Ivan’s position."

After a pause, Jethro continued seriously, "My people have found some clues. They are on the trail of Big Ivan’s men. If we are lucky, we might have a chance."

Francois was moved and asked, "They are on the trail of Big Ivan’s men?"

Jethro took a breath and said softly, "Just a lead. Corkdor was nabbed outside a Ukrainian hotel, you all know that, right?"

"Yes."

"We got the surveillance footage and know what those guys look like. The enemy has thus exposed their tracks. Ukraine’s intelligence agencies have already started to act, as well as the CIA. Now everyone is trying their best to find Big Ivan’s whereabouts. Although we’ve suffered heavy losses, the deadlock has been broken."

Francois said with a sardonic smile, "I don’t think this is such a good opportunity, because I don’t trust Ukrainian intelligence to find Big Ivan. On the contrary, they might tip off Big Ivan, or even directly help him."

Jethro said seriously, "Correct, and that’s the big problem we face, buddy. This is why the boss is willing to pay a high price to hire you, because we all know we can’t trust the Ukrainian military and intelligence. Apart from the CIA, who might truly help us, no one else can be fully trusted. So, if the opportunity arises, we will have to act on our own!"

Deyo didn’t pay fifty million dollars to hire the Fearless Mercenary Corps just to protect Jethro; he intended to make the Fearless Mercenary Corps go all out.

Jethro took a deep breath and said, "Now we have an opportunity. My people are attempting to track Big Ivan. If they succeed, we’ll take action ourselves, and I’ll ask the CIA for help, but I won’t inform the Ukrainian side. What do you think?"

McGregor remained silent, but after a moment of hesitation, Francois nodded and said, "Alright, it’s better that we act on our own rather than risk the information leaking out and falling into the enemy’s ambush. I’ve had enough of that."

Jethro waved his hand towards Francois and said in a stern voice, "We must stick together and not spread out our people anymore. It’s safer that way, and if an opportunity arises, we can strike with the utmost speed. What do you think?"

Francois replied without hesitation, "Exactly, but where should we be? This place is too small. We have dozens of people and can’t fit."

Jethro said gravely, "I’m looking for a place. As soon as there is a suitable spot, we’ll move there together. Also, let me introduce you all to Robot."

Yang Yi, who had been standing behind Jethro, nodded and said in a deep voice, "Hello, everyone."

Jethro sighed and said, "You’ll be fighting side by side from now on. Get to know each other."

Francois nodded at Yang Yi and said in a serious tone, "Hello, buddy. We’ve met before."

McGregor just nodded at Yang Yi.

As the saying goes, "A new king brings his own courtiers." Now that Jethro was in charge, Francois and McGregor knew they would have to deal with Yang Yi from now on. Naturally, they had to get to know him, and they had to be polite too, since Yang Yi was Jethro’s trusted confidant.
