Spy-x-War Showdown -
Chapter 674 - 680 Who Did It
Chapter 674: Chapter 680 Who Did It
They were en route to Zaporozhye when they suddenly came under attack.
Yang Yi was bewildered by this irrational and sudden assault.
Who were the enemies? Why were they attacking?
As a spy, Yang Yi knew any action taken must have a clear purpose, and the means meticulously precise, like Jethro ending Feyel, Yang Yi could use any method to finish Feyel, but he would certainly confirm Feyel’s identity before striking.
But this time was different; Anton pointed out their attackers, yet the enemy was clearly several hundred meters away.
Their car rushed to the roadside but still couldn’t block the bullets from the enemy. However, both Anton and Yang Yi had their sniper rifles, and they hadn’t put them away.
There was no time to ponder the identity of the enemy now.
Anton crawled rapidly forward and then positioned himself on the highway, beginning to fire at the enemy.
Yang Yi, bending over, pulled open the passenger door. The airbag had already deployed, and Jethro, still belted in, had been stunned by the harsh impact; he couldn’t even unbuckle himself.
Yang Yi drew his knife, cut the seatbelt, punctured the still-inflated airbag, and then yanked Jethro out of the passenger seat.
Dragging Jethro to the ground, Yang Yi didn’t have time to check if Jethro was dead or alive. He dashed forward two steps and set up his sniper rifle on the ground.
The attackers were on the highway, all wearing Ukrainian military camouflage uniforms. Although these soldiers in uniform were the first to open fire, they seemed just as panicked.
Every time Anton fired, an enemy would fall, and their panic was due to Anton’s shooting.
The car had rushed to the side of the highway, but the enemy’s shooting was undeterred. It was only because Anton’s shooting was precise enough to disrupt the attackers’ rhythm; otherwise, if the enemy had continued to fire, Yang Yi and his group would have been in dire straits.
Yang Yi targeted a moving figure and took a shot but missed.
He knew he was panicking. Taking a deep breath, he steadied his thoughts and aimed at a soldier running to the side of the road for cover. After the shot rang out, the soldier he had targeted fell to the ground.
"Chris! Rod, Sergei, how are you?"
Yang Yi was very anxious; Boyata must have been shot, and it seemed to be a bad hit. He was unsure about the condition of the others in the second car.
"I’m fine!"
"We’re okay!"
Roman, clutching his machine gun, charged to the roadside. Then he aimed it at the enemies and started spraying bullets.
The enemies scurried for cover, all hiding on the other side of the highway. Anton’s brief but rapid shooting had killed at least seven people, forcing the ambushers to look for shelter due to his precise aim.
Sergei stumbled to the roadside and collapsed on the ground. Puffing hard, he said, "What’s going on here?"
The situation momentarily stabilized, Yang Yi looked back at Jethro, only to see him already climbing to his feet.
Jethro, holding onto the car, walked around the front and tried to pull open the driver’s door.
Yang Yi shouted, "Get down, get down! What are you doing?"
Jethro seemed oblivious to Yang Yi’s shouting. He circled around the hood of the car and yanked the driver’s door open with force.
Bullets whizzed overhead. The enemies had stabilized their positions and, having taken cover by the side of the highway, even if they couldn’t aim and shoot at Yang Yi and his team, they could still pose a significant threat to Jethro.
Jethro acted as if he were out of his mind, but his expression was actually very calm. The reason he had to lean on the car to walk was due to the severe impact he had suffered during the collision.
Yang Yi couldn’t just watch Jethro get killed by a stray bullet. He stepped back a few times and ran over to pull Jethro, shouting loudly, "He’s dead!"
Jethro swatted away Yang Yi’s hand and then he unbuckled Boyata’s seatbelt, grabbed Boyata’s left arm, and shouted loudly, "Get down, you get down!"
"He’s dead!"
Yang Yi shouted again, but this time he didn’t pull Jethro. Instead, he reached out to take hold of Boyata’s arm and yanked Boyata out of the car with force.
The white airbag had been stained red, Boyata remained motionless, and blood continued to surge from the wound on his chest.
Yang Yi pulled Jethro down to the ground. This time Jethro didn’t get up; he pressed both hands on Boyata’s wound and shouted with a sobbing tone, "Boyata! Answer me, Boyata!"
Boyata wasn’t dead yet, but a bullet had pierced his lungs. Death was only a matter of time.
Yang Yi couldn’t attend to Jethro any longer. He crawled back to the side of the highway and said urgently, "We have to get out of here."
Rodriguez fired a burst with his gun and then shouted loudly, "Our car is busted. We’re all right, but the engine’s been hit!"
Anton didn’t look back. He said gravely, "It’s the military’s men. They just arrived, stopped on the road, and prepared to ambush us."
"Feyel’s men? Impossible, Feyel’s men can’t be this quick!"
Anton spoke gravely, "It’s Ukraine’s soldiers, but they are definitely here on Big Ivan’s orders to intercept us. These people aren’t that strong in combat, but they opened fire immediately after they found our trace, obviously, they have a handle on our whereabouts."
Yang Yi said urgently, "What’s important now is to leave this place quickly. If these really are the people sent by Big Ivan to block us, then they will soon have more people coming. If they block our way out too, then it’s all over for us!"
Just then, Rodriguez urgently said to Yang Yi, "Boss, you go! There’s another car that can be used, you get out first, we’ll cover you!"
If they had no car available, and the enemy did, then those left behind to suppress the enemy would surely die; they couldn’t even run.
"Shoot their cars, disable the enemies’ cars first, then we all pull out!"
Having made up his mind, he aimed at the tire of a car and fired a shot, but feeling that just hitting the tire wasn’t reliable enough, he aimed at the car’s engine and fired another shot.
Just at that moment, Jethro suddenly yelled, "Boya isn’t dead, he’s not dead! Come and help me!"
Yang Yi felt that Boya was beyond saving, but he understood Jethro’s feelings, so he spoke gravely, "Who knows first aid, go and help Boya. Chris, go and start the car to see if it can still run!"
After giving the instruction, Yang Yi said to Anton, "If we’ve fallen into a trap, then it’s going to be hard to get out, Anton."
Anton responded gravely, "What do we do?"
"If I die, you’ll still have to pay back the money you owe me."
Anton glared at Yang Yi without amusement, and then he shouted, "This isn’t a trap. If this were a trap set by Big Ivan, he wouldn’t arrange such weak opponents for us. Can’t you see that?"
