Chapter 644: Chapter 650: Visiting
A Corkdor willing to cooperate rather than seize power instantly changed the demeanor of Deyo’s side.
After all, Deyo had established such a sizable enterprise, so he and his subordinates definitely weren’t all incompetent; they were exceptionally capable individuals who, after focusing their energy outward rather than on internal struggles, instantly saw a significant improvement in their efficiency.
Jethro picked out several targets to eliminate or potentially recruit by the afternoon, and at eleven in the evening, he set out to take action with Yang Yi and the others.
Yang Yi didn’t ask who the targets were, nor did he inquire about addresses or names. Since he knew these individuals were bound to die, and it was very likely by his own hand, the less he knew about them, the better.
Yang Yi brought Chris, Rodriguez, Sergei, Roman, and Vitali. Except for Chris, the rest were purely combat personnel.
Aside from Jethro and Boyata, there were six operatives, and among them, apart from Yang Yi, it was Sergei and his two Ukrainian Alpha comrades who were the most formidable. Although Rodriguez had received training from the Aurora Mercenary Corps, he was still somewhat lacking, and Chris even more so, as his role was not that of a pure combatant.
Brian was quite concerned about his half-trained apprentice, Chris; otherwise, he wouldn’t have specifically instructed him to get more exposure to blood.
Even though they weren’t bringing the Organization of Water’s strongest force, it was sufficient to deal with the minor characters in Big Ivan’s camp. In the previous war between Deyo and Big Ivan, both sides had concentrated their main efforts on each other’s higher-ups, while these minor players had escaped unscathed, sitting in the eye of the storm, untouched by the bloodshed around them.
But starting tonight, that would change, because Jethro was focusing all his energy on these minor figures under Big Ivan.
"Our target tonight is a military officer, responsible for an armory. This man can’t betray Big Ivan, so we’ll eliminate him to send a warning to Big Ivan’s allies," said Jethro indifferently. After checking his watch, he continued, "He’s just a major and lives outside the barracks. There won’t be much protective force around him, and he wasn’t greatly threatened during the previous conflicts. So, he’s our first target."
Yang Yi didn’t have much to say. In a low voice, he replied, "Alright, understood."
Jethro exhaled and said in a serious tone, "If we can’t find Big Ivan, we start with his subordinates. Shake his foundations, and we can force him out!"
Yang Yi replied softly, "It will be easier to succeed initially when they’re unguarded. But after tonight, further actions will be more difficult."
Jethro laughed softly and said, "We’re not limited to one tactic. We’ll hit them hard tonight and then won’t need as much effort afterward."
It was then that Boyata whispered, "We’re almost there."
Revitalized, Jethro responded, "Excellent, this target is the easiest to deal with. Let’s accomplish this cleanly and efficiently!"
The car stopped at the entrance of a high-end residential area, but most of Kyiv’s neighborhoods are open, meaning they lack walls and security, just a concentrated group of homes. Naturally, this posed no problems during peacetime, but currently, Ukraine was amidst unrest, soon to evolve into civil war, making the security situation very dire, with virtually no pedestrians on the streets at night.
The absence of pedestrians naturally facilitated the wrongdoers.
"You wait in the car."
After advising Boyata, Jethro glanced at a sheet of paper he held and said in a deep voice, "That’s right, this is the place. Let’s get out."
Jethro pushed open the car door, and after exchanging a glance with Yang Yi, he nodded and waved, saying, "Follow me."
Of course, Jethro had received intelligence beforehand; otherwise, how could he have known the exact address of such a minor figure?
Taking the lead and walking at the front, Jethro quickly arrived at the entrance of a detached villa. After checking the doorplate number, he tilted his head towards Yang Yi to signal that this was the place.
Yang Yi looked inside, noticing cameras on the perimeter wall but no infrared alarm devices, and the wall wasn’t particularly high.
Yang Yi raised his hand and, after taking a closer look at the front door lock, he pulled out a bunch of wires from his pocket.
While everyone else carried keys, Yang Yi carried wires. In truth, he only needed two wires, but for convenience, he carried a bunch of varying lengths.
Thanks to the lock picking skills taught by Hank, this skill really offered Yang Yi a great convenience.
After fiddling with two wires in the keyhole for a moment, Yang Yi nodded to Chris, who then slowly turned the round doorknob, cautiously unscrewing the latch before opening the gate.
Without making a sound, they successfully entered the yard, and following the same method, Yang Yi easily opened the door inside the courtyard.
After that was the task of entering the main hall.
Chris and Rodriguez both drew their silenced pistols, while Yang Yi casually pulled out his knife. But after hesitating for a moment, he put the knife back into its sheath and also drew his own pistol.
Equipped with night-vision devices, the three of them slowly walked into the villa. They entered the living room first; no one was there. Yang Yi waved his hand, and the trio quietly moved further inside.
The villa had two floors, but Yang Yi didn’t need to go upstairs. At the first-floor bedroom door, he heard the steady breathing of someone sleeping inside.
Unsure if there was anyone upstairs, Yang Yi gestured lightly with his hand, and then Chris and Rodriguez, after quickly searching the remaining bedroom on the first floor, slowly ascended to the second floor.
Before long, Rodriguez and Chris came back down, and then Chris gestured to Yang Yi.
No one was upstairs; there were two people in the bedroom on the first floor, judging from the sound of their breathing.
Yang Yi placed his hand on the spherical doorknob and turned it slowly. The door wasn’t locked, so he smoothly opened the bedroom door, and then he walked straight to the bedside.
Occupying one side of the bed each, Yang Yi and Rodriguez watched as Chris immediately flipped the switch on the wall, flooding the room with light.
Startled awake by the blinding light, the man in deep sleep jolted upright and instinctively reached under his pillow.
Yang Yi struck the man’s nose hard with the butt of his gun, knocking him back down onto the bed, then reached under the pillow to pull out a pistol.
After stuffing the retrieved pistol into his own pocket, Yang Yi pointed his gun at the man and whispered sharply, "Don’t move or make a sound, or I’ll kill you both!"
