Chapter 640: Chapter 647: Transaction Successful

When Yang Yi arrived in Paris to pick up the goods, he was accompanied by Hans and Schultz.

The incident in Frankfurt was just a minor episode that neither delayed Yang Yi’s schedule nor made him change any of his plans.

Eric Fulrand delivered on time, the pickup location was still in Paris, and it was once again in the same hotel, only this time Yang Yi didn’t meet Eric Fulrand in the coffee shop, but in Eric’s room.

Yang Yi knocked on the door, Eric looked through the peephole, then he opened the door and let Yang Yi in, pointing directly to the two large suitcases on the bed, he said in a deep voice, "Here’s the stuff, check it."

Eric proceeded to open the two suitcases which were very large and heavy. Inside, one of them was packed full of carefully wrapped drone parts and batteries, but there were no preassembled finished products.

Yang Yi frowned, "How can I test this?"

Eric spread his hands, "Do my goods need testing? No, my goods don’t need to be tested. If I dare deliver to you, I guarantee everything here can be used."

In one of the larger cases was a smaller case, which Yang Yi opened to find it contained makeup items. He nodded, "All right, I trust your reputation, now I will pay you the final installment."

Eric said nothing, and Yang Yi took out his phone and dialed a number. After a short wait, he said sternly, "Payment can be made now."

Bank transfers take time and Yang Yi couldn’t leave with the items before the final payment went through, so the time spent waiting for the transaction to complete was somewhat awkward for both men.

Both were in the spy business and couldn’t ask each other for information, so making conversation was a problem, but fortunately, it seemed Eric was a Brit, and Yang Yi had also spent his childhood in the United Kingdom.

"Nice weather today."

"Yes, the weather is quite nice."

Both couldn’t help but glance out of the window; spotting the overcast sky about to rain, Yang Yi coughed lightly and adjusted his tie.

Eric just spread his hands and remained silent.

After a while, Yang Yi thought it better to break the silence and smiled, "So, it seems the guns are nowhere to be found, right?"

Eric exhaled and nodded, "Yes, it’s easy to find guns, but guns that meet your requirements are hard to come by. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the guns you needed, but I will keep an eye out for you. If I do come across a good piece, I’ll let you know. Is a call okay?"

"Sure, give me a call anytime you find a good gun."

Their conversation ended again, and after hesitating for a moment, Eric suddenly asked, "Can you tell me how Cheese died? Of course, if it’s inconvenient, pretend I didn’t ask. I just worked with him for many years and was inevitably a little curious."

Yang Yi spoke softly, "Well, he died in London. He died saving a brother, taking a grenade for someone else."

Eric was stunned, then incredulously said, "Cheese? He took a grenade for someone?"

"Yes, is it that unbelievable?"

Eric grimaced, "Extremely so. I guessed many ways he might have died, but the one I never imagined was him dying for others."

They couldn’t continue this topic, and after a moment, Eric suddenly said, "If you’re interested, I could inform you about new stuff. You’re a good buyer, and I do hope to maintain a long-term relationship with you."

Yang Yi smiled, "Of course, give me a call if you get any novel and interesting items."

Eric spread his hands, "Do I keep contacting you on your personal line? Is there a dedicated number for external contact? In our line of work, it’s not always convenient to take calls, so I always avoid calling clients directly, but if you have a number that’s always available, that’d be perfect."

Yang Yi indeed didn’t have such a number. After pondering for a moment, he gave them Kate’s number, "From now on you can contact this number. If it’s unreachable then it means I’m not at liberty to speak, but if it goes through, then there are no problems at all."

Eric laughed, "Great, we’ll be in touch often, oh, the payment’s in. This deal is successfully concluded—pleased to have done business with you."

Eric stood up, then smiling, he said, "I better be off now, stay in touch, goodbye."

Yang Yi shook hands with Eric, saw him out the door, and then the room was his to use for the time being.

Yang Yi made a phone call, "It’s done, come up and help with the stuff, bring the suitcases, we need to repackage."

Soon, Anton, Kate, and a few others arrived in the room. As they were transferring items into smaller cases, Yang Yi suddenly received a call.

The call was from Eric, and after Yang Yi picked up, Eric said gravely over the phone, "Sorry, I forgot something. Please open the drawer where the toiletries are in the bathroom. There’s an envelope inside."

Yang Yi went over, opened the drawer, took out a white envelope, and said, "I found it."

"Inside, there are six memory cards containing the start-up passwords, each labelled with a number for use with the corresponding numbered drone. Without its unique matching memory card, a drone cannot function and is just a pile of garbage. So do not lose the memory cards. Also, do not tamper with the core components; they will self-destruct. Of course, you may also remotely command the drone to self-destruct to prevent leaks. Installation and usage instructions are also in the envelope. Enjoy using them, goodbye."

Eric was indeed very cautious. If Yang Yi had planned to default on the payment and attempt a rip-off, then he wouldn’t have been able to use the drones.

His methods were, of course, understandable, so Yang Yi didn’t grumble. After leaving the bathroom with the envelope, he told everyone, "First, take these items back to our room. Let’s assemble them and test if they can be used."

Eric said no test was necessary, but the difference between a buyer’s show and a seller’s show could be vast. Therefore, Yang Yi intended to try out each drone. Even if not for a test flight, at the very least, he needed to see if the drones could function normally, if the surveillance equipment worked, and how effective it was.

Aside from the numbers written with a marker pen afterward, there were no markings on the drones or surveillance equipment—not even a single letter. If not for the instruction manual in the envelope, it would have been a struggle for Yang Yi and his team to assemble them.

Hans, trying out one of the cameras fit for the drone near the window, couldn’t help but admire, "This thing is fantastic, top-notch performance. The seller is good."

The goods were workable and of good quality, which finally put Yang Yi’s mind at ease. After placing the items in a case, he said with gravity, "Let’s head back to Ukraine as quickly as possible. I reckon Brian must be getting anxious by now."
