Chapter 621: Chapter 629: A Familiar Taste
As more and more information came in, Jethro and Ferdinand grew increasingly tense.
After a while, Ferdinand answered another call.
Now even a blind man could see how anxious Jethro and Ferdinand were.
With his voice thick with tension, Ferdinand said into the phone, "Boss, we have too few men on hand now. The Americans have failed. If we go now, it’s just sending men to their deaths, boss. I am not afraid to die, but if we follow the Americans in an attack, it’s very likely we’ll suffer heavy losses, and that would affect our future..."
Ferdinand didn’t finish his sentence before he stopped speaking, a look of dejection on his face. Not much later, his call was cut off.
Staring blankly at the phone screen, Ferdinand’s hand drooped down, and then he whispered to Jethro, "The boss wants us to rush over and join the fight immediately. The Americans have had it, the CIA folks are useless, and it’s very likely that Big Ivan has also lost most of his men. If we could get there in time, we might be able to turn the situation around."
Jethro frowned and asked, "Is that what you think?"
Ferdinand spoke urgently, "Buddy, do you know which unit the Americans deployed?"
Jethro replied with the same urgency, "What’s the point of talking about that now? SEALs? Delta Force? Which unit was it?"
Ferdinand said with difficulty, "I don’t know! I mean no one knows the name of this unit! What does that mean? It means it’s a unit with the highest level of secrecy in the United States, even higher than SEAL Team Six!"
Taking a deep breath, Jethro then exclaimed, "Fuck!"
In despair, Ferdinand said, "The CIA set up a live operation feed, the highest level, and the President of the United States will be watching the operation in real-time. Now that they’ve failed, the CIA people are going crazy with frustration, and they’ve demanded, in no uncertain terms, that the boss deploy all forces at his disposal — that is, us..."
Jethro looked very grim and said in a low voice, "The President is overseeing this directly, the military has sent out its most elite special forces, plus the CIA, and now they have all failed, and they want us to go in?"
In a quiet tone, Ferdinand added, "That’s what the CIA is saying. The boss said that, even if we suffer heavy losses, we must go! Otherwise, we won’t be able to work with the CIA in the future!"
Yang Yi was listening on the side and also understood the situation now.
The United States had deployed its most elite forces to carry out a decapitation strike on Big Ivan, but had met with a disastrous failure. The most critical issue was that the President had watched the live feed; now that the operation had failed, the CIA, who directly planned this operation, would inevitably take the blame. To try to salvage the situation, the only option for the CIA was to turn to Deyo for help.
But the problem was, the Americans had already failed, could the men led by Ferdinand make a difference?
Taking a deep breath, Jethro said, "The boss put it that way; we have no choice but to go. But..."
Jethro hadn’t finished speaking when his phone rang.
After he took the call, Jethro said urgently, "Yes, I understand the situation now. Yes, okay, got it. I’ll arrange people immediately. We’ll go right away, at the fastest speed, yes."
Ferdinand’s expression became uglier by the second.
He had not dared to agree to Deyo’s request, yet Jethro had readily accepted. Wasn’t this undermining him in front of the boss?
Jethro hung up the phone and then he said in a low voice, "The boss said to immediately gather everyone to go into battle, at any cost, even if... even if everyone dies, it’s to be endured. Also, if you don’t follow the order, I can take you out right now and take over everything you have."
Ferdinand stepped back, and Jethro said with an impatient look, "What are you panicking for? If I wanted to kill you, would I be saying this?"
Yang Yi lowered his gun, which had been aimed at Ferdinand, as if nothing had happened at all.
In an urgent whisper, Jethro said, "We can’t say we are not going! But we might not make it in time, understand? The fighting is almost over; it’s normal if we don’t make it. So, why the panic? Right now, we two can only agree on our story."
Ferdinand took a long breath and then said quietly, "I get it."
Waving his hand, Jethro said, "The Ukrainian military has already been deployed. Let’s ’hurry’ on our way."
When Jethro said "hurry up," he drew out his words with a meaningful tone.
Ferdinand turned and left, saying, "I’ll gather the men immediately."
After Ferdinand left, Jethro glanced at Yang Yi, looking as if he had more to say but hesitated.
Yang Yi said in a low voice, "Just tell me what you want me to do."
Jethro exhaled and then murmured, "Let’s see how things go. It’s a bit early to say now. Tell the brothers we’re moving out. We’ll go to the place and see. The Ukrainian army is out. If the situation is good, we’ll go in! If not, then you’ll refuse my ’orders,’ understand?"
"Understood."
"Let’s go. Time to move out!"
Jethro hurriedly departed, while Brian looked seriously puzzled.
Yang Yi moved closer to Brian and whispered, "Which unit is it?"
Brian whispered back, "Only two units would be directly commanded by the president and have their actions broadcasted live."
"Which two units?"
"Army Special Tactics Research Group and Navy Trident."
"Trident?"
Yang Yi was surprised, as their mercenary group was also named Trident.
Brian said very gravely, "Naval Tactical Study Group, under the name of the SEALs, divided into three teams, hence the name Trident. One of these teams specializes in decapitation strikes, and many of their missions are credited to the SEALs."
After finishing, Brian added softly, "Only these two units, but how is it possible for them to be defeated by a arms dealer’s bodyguard? How is it possible? Especially while streaming live to the president, it’s just not possible!"
Yang Yi said helplessly, "But it has happened."
Brian suddenly stopped walking, then turned to look at Paul.
Paul opened his mouth, then said quietly, "Unless it was..."
"Black Devil!"
Brian’s voice trembled slightly as he spoke.
Paul nodded, speaking softly, "Yes, unless it was Black Devil, but the Soviet Union has been dissolved for so long, Black Devil couldn’t possibly still be around."
Brian muttered to himself, "Not exist? If we can reunite, why couldn’t Black Devil?"
Anton frowned and said, "Are you talking about Black Devil?"
Even though they all seemed very anxious, in reality, no one wanted to go to their doom, at least not until they understood the situation clearer. Hence, when Jethro reached them and they were murmuring among themselves, he stopped, turned around, and asked, "What are you talking about?"
Yang Yi gestured dismissively and said, "Analyzing the situation, we need to discuss how to handle this."
Jethro nodded, then said hastily, "Right, we’ll need to bring heavy firepower, so go get ready. I need to go put on my bulletproof vest."
After Jethro left, Brian spoke with a deep gravity, "I smell Black Devil’s presence, yes, Black Devil!"
