Chapter 540: Chapter 528 Remote Control System
"That’s how it is, the office area is huge but there are very few people. I told them I’d think about it before deciding whether to join the organization. Kyle Chandler couldn’t guarantee it, but he said there’s a good chance that if I join, my beef could enter this market."
"Did you find anything else, or see anyone else?"
"No, there was always only Kyle Chandler to receive me. No one else spoke to me, and apart from reception, I didn’t even get to see anyone other than Kyle Chandler."
Yang Yi turned to look at Brian with a serious tone, "It looks like this is going to be tough."
Brian said gravely, "If the Anderson Research Association really has ties with the Grey-cloaked People, then we won’t be able to easily find a vulnerability to exploit. Now there’s only one method, to increase Chris’s frequency of contact with the Anderson Research Association, and at the same time..."
Anton said indifferently, "Actually, why not just grab someone and interrogate them?"
To abduct for interrogation was to show one’s hand. Just as Yang Yi was about to express his opposition, after pondering for a moment, Brian spoke with a serious tone: "If that really doesn’t work, then we can’t just abduct a single person for interrogation. Grasp everyone you can lay our hands on!"
Yang Yi hesitated for a moment, then he felt this suggestion might be the only choice.
The Grey-cloaked People are not an ordinary company. They are extremely experienced and value the prevention of exposing themselves. So, Yang Yi believed it was very likely that anyone he could come into contact with at the Anderson Research Association were indeed normal staff who probably didn’t even know who provided their work.
And the Grey-cloaked People might never actually make contact with clients like Chris.
Moreover, considering the Organization of Water, a Spy Organization that had been established not long ago with few people, would be willing to spend all its resources to set up a cybersecurity center, wouldn’t the Grey-cloaked People have something similar?
The most critical factor was time. Before the Grey-cloaked People decided to withdraw from the Anderson Research Association, or before the Organization of Water faced another exposure crisis that forced the cleaner to jump out and draw attention, Yang Yi had to achieve something.
After thinking for a while, Yang Yi said to Chris, "Schultz and Tang Guo haven’t been able to get any useful information from the computer systems of the Anderson Research Association."
Chris said with surprise, "Has it already started?"
Yang Yi nodded and said, "Yes, it started a long time ago, even before we got here, but there’s been no progress. There’s very little public information available online, and it’s not possible to hack into any of the computers at the Anderson Research Association. It seems their computer system is physically isolated from the outside. Any computer that can connect to the network surely doesn’t contain any sensitive information. I think, perhaps we should make an effort to figure out how to penetrate the network of the Anderson Research Association first."
After a pause, Yang Yi said with a grave face, "If we still can’t find an opportunity to hack into the network of the Anderson Research Association, then at the same time, we should abduct several people for interrogation, and leave immediately after getting the results; whatever we can get will have to suffice."
Chris suddenly said, "I found out that the indoor temperature control system of the Anderson Research Association is connected to the network because the temperature can be controlled remotely."
Yang Yi immediately responded, "Tell me more about this."
"It came up while I was chatting with Kyle Chandler. He was telling me how much technological progress has impacted our lives and the current businesses. Then he brought up the temperature control system at the association. He can control the temperature of his office from home. If the weather is hot, he can turn on the air conditioning in his office remotely and set a temperature he likes, just like that."
Yang Yi smiled and said, "Tang Guo can definitely hack this system. If Kyle Chandler’s personal computer—or his mobile phone, for that matter—is open to us, that’s the greatest discovery you’ve made today, and yet you didn’t mention it sooner."
An unexpected gain, Yang Yi looked at his watch, then said spiritedly, "For now, let’s keep a close watch on that Kyle Chandler, Anton."
Anton nodded and said, "Got it, I’ll start following him when he gets off work."
Yang Yi then looked towards Brian and said gravely, "Tomorrow, or the day after, go find Kyle Chandler again with Chris, and if the situation allows it, plant some bugs."
Brian nodded and said, "Okay."
"Tang Guo will arrive today. Xiao Ran, go pick her up at the airport later, we need to get to work as soon as possible. If we’re lucky, we could enter the Anderson Research Association’s system today to have a look."
After speaking, Yang Yi suddenly said, "Maybe we should start preparing now. If the remote control system can be operated with a mobile phone, then maybe just knowing the phone number is enough. Chris, do you know Kyle Chandler’s mobile number?"
Chris shrugged and said, "Of course, he gave me his business card with a mobile number on it. I just don’t know if it’s his private number or office number."
Yang Yi immediately picked up the phone. Tang Guo was already on the plane and obviously couldn’t be called, but he could call Schultz.
"Schultz, we know the target company has a remote system for controlling temperature, and it’s definitely connected to the internet, right?"
"Yes."
"Can we get into that network?"
"No problem!"
"I’ve got a mobile number now, and I know..."
"Wait, you’ve got the mobile number?"
"Yes."
"That’s all I need, give me the number, let me try first."
Yang Yi recited Kyle Chandler’s number.
Five minutes later, his phone rang.
Schultz, not particularly excited, said arrogantly, "I’ve already hacked into the mobile phone. Firstly, I checked the remote control system, and this phone is only controlling a vent of a central air-conditioning server, but through the system, I could see there are a total of seventy-six vents, although they only have temperature control functions.
Then the personal smartphone, this phone is for work. To put it simply, I’ve obtained the phone owner’s contact list, his Twitter account, and many other online details. This can be traced, but it will take some time.
Lastly, I re-entered the research association’s remote control system through the phone and then accessed thirty-five remote control terminals, which are phones. Give me some time, I can hack into these thirty-five phones. Also, it should not be a problem to enter from another channel. That is, I can hack into the internal computer system of the research association. All right, that’s the status. Where do you want me to start looking first?"
