Chapter 539: Chapter 527 Research Society

Chris was wearing a shirt with the top two buttons undone and a cowboy hat atop his head, paired with a pair of jeans, and on his feet, mercifully, a pair of leather shoes instead of cowboy boots.

Yang Yi frowned and said, "You’re really going to the Anderson Research Association dressed like that?"

Chris, slowing down his normal pace of speech by at least two beats, drawled, "I’m a Texan."

Yang Yi spread his hands and countered, "Not all Texans look like this, at least they change into a different outfit when they go abroad for market development, right?"

Chris shook his head, still using his leisurely drawl, "But that’s just who I am."

Unable to help himself, Yang Yi asked, "How can you speak so slowly?"

"Ah, I once pretended to be a Texan."

Yang Yi exhaled and said, "Take off the hat; the rest is fine, just go like that."

Removing the hat, Chris lamented slowly, "Shame though, it was so hard to find this hat."

Ignoring Chris’s complaint, Yang Yi spoke firmly, "Get ready and go, remember, create more opportunities for future contact."

Chris made a reassuring gesture, then stood up and walked out of the room.

After leaving the hotel, Chris walked towards the building of the Anderson Research Association, rode the elevator to the ninth floor, and then pushed open the glass doors of the Anderson Research Association.

A local female receptionist rose to her feet when she saw Chris enter and greeted him in English, "Hello, how can I assist you?"

Chris, standing in front of the reception desk, scratched his head subconsciously and replied slowly, "Ah, I’d like to consult about some matters. I’ve heard you’re very familiar with the entire East Asian business environment; um, I was wondering about some import and export trade issues."

The receptionist courteously asked, "May I know what kind of business you are involved in? For instance, machinery, or electronic products."

"Meat products, mainly frozen meat, beef."

"Very well, sir. Mr. Kyle Chandler is very knowledgeable about international trade, and he’s well-acquainted with the laws and regulations of South Korea. Moreover, he happens to be free at the moment. Would you like to have a talk with Mr. Chandler?"

Chris nodded readily and said, "Yes, thank you."

The receptionist picked up the phone and after a moment, spoke softly, "Mr. Chandler, there is a gentleman here who would like to consult on some international trade matters; he doesn’t have an appointment. Would you have time to speak with him?"

After hanging up the phone, the receptionist smiled at Chris and said, "Please follow me, sir."

The office area was expansive, but unlike a typical company’s cubicles, here no one worked in a centralized public area. Instead, each person had their own office because the Anderson Research Association occupied an entire floor. The space was large, but the staff was few.

The receptionist stood in front of an office door, knocked on it, and upon hearing a voice inside, she promptly opened the door and smiled at Chris, saying, "Please."

Chris walked in, into a very large office, and a middle-aged man stood up from behind a huge desk.

"Hello, I’m Kyle Chandler, pleased to meet you."

Kyle Chandler looked to be in his fifties, wearing glasses. Although he was dressed in a suit and tie, he did not have the shrewdness of a businessman but rather gave off the impression of a scholar.

Kyle Chandler walked around to the front of the desk, and Chris shook his hand vigorously, saying, "My name is Jonah Hill, from Texas, I’m very pleased to meet you."

Releasing the hand, Chris slipped his hand into his pocket but quickly brought it out again, looking embarrassed, "I didn’t bring my business card, but, uh, this isn’t a formal meeting today, right?"

Kyle chuckled, "That’s right, just a casual chat, please take a seat."

Chris sat down on a sofa nearby, then immediately nonchalantly crossed his leg and said slowly, "I come from Bastrop, a small town near Austin City in Texas, running a few small slaughterhouses and a meat processing plant, producing about one hundred thousand cattle and fifty thousand pigs a year, uh, I also have my own ranch, but most of the beef comes from other ranches. I’m looking for new markets to expand into, everyone says Huaxia is a huge market, but due to tariffs and shipping costs, our beef is too expensive in the Huaxia market. Then someone suggested I should come to this country to take a look, so here I am."

Kyle Chandler smiled, "A hundred thousand cattle a year? That’s quite large."

Chris waved his hands again and again, "Not big, not big, the Danish Crown slaughters can handle a hundred thousand pigs in a week, now that is a big slaughterhouse. But even so, my production scale is gradually decreasing, the Texas market is already saturated, and I find it hard to increase the slaughter volume significantly, that’s why I’m looking to expand further afield, and that’s why I’m here."

Kyle Chandler asked with interest, "So you want to export beef here?"

Chris nodded, "Exactly, I want to give it a try, but I’m not very good at this, and then I stayed at the hotel opposite your company, I saw the sign hanging on this building, and when I searched online for influential consultancy firms, I also saw your company’s name, I thought maybe this is God’s will, so I came here, haha."

Kyle Chandler smiled, "Actually, we’re an international relations research association, not a consultancy firm, but you’ve made the right choice coming to us for advice, as international trade relations are one of our main research areas. As long as you become a member, we can offer you help."

After explaining, Kyle Chandler said with a serious tone, "First off, I’d like to ask what your goal is? How much export volume do you hope to achieve?"

Chris answered without hesitation, "To start with, not too much, ten thousand tonnes a year would be nice, anything less wouldn’t be very interesting."

Kyle Chandler smiled, "That’s a big target because here is neither Texas nor the United States, but your goal is not impossible to achieve."

Chris asked, "Oh, how so?"

Kyle Chandler smiled, "If you become a member, we will assist you with all the work. We’re not an import-export company, but we do have connections here and are familiar with the business environment of this country."

Chris showed keen interest, "I mean, how do I become a member, and how much is the membership fee?"

"To become a member, you need to apply, and we will conduct an investigation. Once it is approved, you can become a member. As for the membership fee, it’s half a million US dollars a year."

Chris frowned and said, "I thought you just have to pay a consultancy fee. It seems not, um, I’ll think about it."
