Chapter 520: Chapter 508: Burning Bridges After Crossing

Two small load carriers entered the vault, each time scooping up seven or eight gold bricks and then dumping them onto the conveyor belt, which passed the gold through staircases, around corners, and finally delivered them to the ground level.

The cleaners and Yang Yi didn’t communicate at all throughout the process, and watching the cleaners methodically move the gold in front of them, Hank couldn’t help but lick his lips, whispering, "So much gold..."

Just then, a sudden, muffled explosion sounded, and Yang Yi felt the ground beneath his feet shake, while the massive iron door also made a slight noise.

"Looks like they’ve smartened up too, trying to blow this door open, haha."

After a self-satisfied chuckle, McDonald boasted proudly, "Unless they plan to bring the whole building down and bury themselves in it."

Anton suddenly said, "If it were me, I’d just blow the whole building up. The gold won’t get damaged by the explosion; we can always dig it out later, no big deal."

Hank said, trembling, "Hey, don’t talk like that, that kind of, unlucky talk, what if they really plan to do that?"

Yang Yi’s heart also thumped nervously, because he thought Anton’s words made a lot of sense.

To pile up a large amount of explosive here, one doesn’t need to stay inside to detonate it. If the Grey-cloaked People really plan to go down with the ship, or prefer blowing up the building to having the gold stolen, then everyone here would be done for.

McDonald laughed and said, "Relax, we’re just here to watch the show. Do they have enough explosives to bring this building down? Did they prepare for that?"

The meticulous work of moving the gold continued, and although seven or eight minutes had passed, only half of the gold was moved out. That meant several more minutes would be needed to finish the job.

Yang Yi swallowed, saying, "We should get out. Once the enemy gets in, we’ll have to drive them back out. It’s better outside."

The cleaners ignored Yang Yi’s suggestion, showing no intention to stop him. But even if they wanted to, it wouldn’t matter—Trident had the responsibility to protect the cleaners until all the gold was moved, but Yang Yi and his companions could stay wherever they wished.

Walking out from beside the conveyor belt, Yang Yi and his companions watched the gold being moved out, and not long after, another explosion occurred, this time much stronger than the last.

"They can’t do it. If they wanted to blow the metal door open, it would be easier to blow up the wall next to it, but breaking through a meter-thick steel-reinforced concrete wall is not that simple. Even if they have enough explosives, unless they have an expert like me, they still can’t blow the wall open. Unless they want to bring the entire building down, so there’s no need to worry. We’re safe, at least until the building collapses. But still..."

McDonald murmured to Yang Yi, "I feel it’s better to go up. There’s nothing for me here anymore, I’m leaving."

Yang Yi was very nervous, extremely nervous—staying here scared him to death. However, McDonald indeed had nothing left to do, so it was understandable that he would leave early, hence Yang Yi didn’t attempt to stop him.

Watching McDonald about to leave, Brian suddenly said softly, "It would be better to keep him here, I mean, he’s useless now..."

Yang Yi looked at Brian in surprise, and Brian continued softly, "Unless you want to keep a potential threat, it’s better to have him stay."

Brian’s suggestion wasn’t to call McDonald back; he was clearly suggesting killing McDonald to silence him, to keep him here forever.

Anton glanced at Yang Yi, then he raised his pistol, aiming at the back of McDonald’s head.

Yang Yi swiftly pushed down Anton’s arm and said in a low voice, "What are you doing!"

Anton shrugged and said, "I thought you agreed with his opinion."

Yang Yi said urgently, "Are you kidding me? How can you do such a thing! Fuck! I didn’t plan on killing a soul!"

McDonald glanced back, then he turned a corner, completely leaving Yang Yi and the others’ field of vision.

Brian said indifferently, "Think it over again. Taking action yourself isn’t that big of a deal."

Yang Yi shook his head repeatedly, "No! Absolutely not, how can you do such a thing? To dispose of someone after using them up, what kind of behavior is that!"

"It’s better to be sensible. He is a key surveillance target of the United Kingdom. Do you plan to keep him in Trident? You know how seriously the United Kingdom takes him, so he’s like a ticking time bomb. Or do you plan to let him leave? Let him go after he knows so much?"

Yang Yi didn’t consider Brian’s suggestion at all, he just said very firmly, "Stop it, I will never shoot my own people in the back, there’s no need to persuade me, I won’t engage in such betrayal!"

Anton said calmly, "Betrayal? That’s a vivid metaphor, but I never tried to persuade you."

Hank had been watching coldly from the side; he was destined to never leave the Organization of Water, so watching McDonald’s fate couldn’t help but evoke feelings of shared fate, but after Yang Yi very firmly refused Brian’s suggestion, Hank understood two things.

First, he must stick closely to Yang Yi, and the only leader for the Organization of Water could be Yang Yi, for Yang Yi, at least, had a bottom line and at the very least wouldn’t turn against his own people.

Second, never offend Brian, and never offend Anton, they’re inhumane.

The piles of gold were finally moved out, and the cleaners began to pick up scattered pieces of gold from the ground.

The Grey-cloaked People on the other side of the wall were probably still trying hard, but their efforts were doomed to be ineffective.

"The enemy is trying to break out; we are under great pressure, and lots of police have arrived. What’s the situation down there? We can hardly hold them back!"

Zhang Yong urgently said a few words on the walkie-talkie, and Roman also shouted over the walkie-talkie, "Give me an ammo belt!"

Below was undisturbed, the Grey-cloaked People continually unable to access their vault, but above was a battle raging, because the Grey-cloaked People, finding they couldn’t get into the vault, started trying to solve the problem from above but were firmly blocked by Zhang Yong and Xiao Ran, unable to leave the building.

The gold heist was going super smoothly, a perfect operation.

Watching the last gold bar thrown on the conveyor belt, an impatient Yang Yi immediately said, "Let’s go!"

The gold had been transported, the mission of Trident was complete, and although they still needed to escort the cleaners out, Yang Yi still preferred to wait outside rather than stay in the basement.

Yang Yi ran up quickly, and when he arrived at the nightclub’s entrance, he saw just how intense the battle outside was.

The gunfire was incessant, the fight fiercely intense, corpses littered the ground from the repair shop to the outside world; in short, the upcoming situation was still troublesome.
