Chapter 461: Chapter 449: Do you agree?

Ukraine, embroiled in internal strife, was like a large cake that everyone wanted to slice a piece of.

It was a feast, with arms dealers eyeing Ukraine’s weapons, those nations coveting Ukraine’s talents and the technological reserves left from the Soviet era, and people like Justin and Yang Yi, they too were interested in talents, only that they were after the talented spies.

When the Soviet Union disintegrated, some of the KGB officers stationed in Ukraine were purged, but the majority stayed on to become part of the Ukrainian intelligence service. They simply changed the name of the organization. Now, another group was about to be purged.

The Ukrainian intelligence agency didn’t have any particularly outstanding achievements, but after all, it inherited the foundation of the KGB and hence had some strength. The reason the Ukrainian intelligence agency hadn’t had much of a presence over the years was mainly because national strategy had changed. The demands on intelligence services were naturally very different for the Soviet Union, one of the two superpowers, compared to Ukraine, which just wanted to live comfortably on its own.

Yang Yi was indeed very interested in talent. It was an opportunity not to be missed to be able to recruit capable people at a very low cost. Not to mention recruiting them with a basic salary, even if he could entice them with a high price, it was still a profitable deal. However, right now, what was more pressing was the gold, so after discussing only the basics with Justin, Yang Yi had no choice but to send Justin off to sleep.

Yang Yi had no choice but to sleep on the sofa because Justin didn’t mind sharing a bed with him, but Yang Yi did. So after Justin had plopped down on the bed and started snoring, Yang Yi had to resort to sleeping on the sofa.

Feeling like he had barely slept, Yang Yi was woken up by the phone. He answered the call, and not long after, he greeted a weary-faced Alexander.

"Hey, I’m here. Where’s Justin?"

Yang Yi had just opened the door to let Alexander in when an eager Justin said, "I’m right here, now we can get started."

"Right, let’s begin. Now you can give us the detailed intelligence."

Alexander sat down on the sofa, then waved at Yang Yi and said, "Our people have started to gather. They’ll be ready within 24 hours at the latest. Now, it’s time to discuss what needs to be done."

Yang Yi spoke gravely, "The gold will be moved on the fifth."

Justin was taken aback, then said, "It’s March fifth, not April or June fifth, right?"

"Yes."

"Oh, shit! That’s the day after tomorrow! You really shouldn’t have wasted six hours. Okay, tell me some more specific intelligence."

Yang Yi continued in a low voice, "The gold will be moved on the fifth. The Americans will send a plane to Kyiv airport. The exact time can’t be confirmed yet, but we know the plane the Americans are sending is a Boeing 747 of United Airlines, a civilian flight, with the flight number 176."

Justin exhaled and said, "Knowing that makes things easier."

Alexander pondered for a moment, then said, "You mentioned on the phone that we don’t have to engage anyone in a shootout, and there’s a peaceful way to steal the gold. How is that done?"

Yang Yi asserted, "To be exact, it’s deception. We find a Boeing 747 and paint it in the livery of a United Airlines flight, and then we just need to get to the airport before the Americans’ plane arrives, playing the time right."

Justin said with a worried look, "This plan sounds rough but still viable. But why didn’t you say it earlier? We only have two days to find a Boeing 747 and finish the disguise, which is too rushed. If the other side is fooled and starts loading the gold, what do we do when the real plane shows up?"

Yang Yi calmly said, "That’s your two’s problem. I’m partnering with you to do this business, so you’ve got to do something."

After rubbing his chin, Alexander said, "The risk is not small, but it’s worth a try. If the real plane arrives at that time, we’ll just have to grab it by force, so we still need to be prepared for a fight."

After speaking, Alexander looked at Yang Yi and asked, "What’s the identity of the Americans? CIA? Pentagon? Or the White House?"

Yang Yi spoke gravely, "It doesn’t sound like an official operation, but rather like a private operation by some American big shot. I have a recording. You can listen to it."

Yang Yi played the recordings from before and after, and once the recordings were heard, a satisfied Justin said, "Right, it sounds like a private operation of some big shot."

Alexander also spoke gravely, "But we still need to clean up nicely, or else there’ll be huge repercussions."

After a moment of silence, Justin turned to Alexander and spoke softly, "I can find a plane, but completing the disguise within two days will be challenging. Also, we need to find reliable pilots, so another share needs to be taken out, making it four shares in total."

Alexander shook his head, "Three shares should already be enough, we don’t need a fourth."

Justin spread his hands, "But this involves a plane, a Boeing 747! And I can find this plane! You can’t expect me to put up money!"

Alexander spoke gravely, "What I care about is how to cash in on the gold once we have it! I need money, not a pile of gold I can’t move. Even if I were to melt down all the gold I got, such a large amount isn’t something just anyone can handle, nor is anyone willing to take the risk. Selling it off in small amounts over a long period, I don’t have the patience nor the willingness to take such a risk."

The issue of selling the loot was crucial. Each group having more than ten tons of gold to sell to some national bank, even if someone dared to buy, Yang Yi and his group had to dare to sell it. But to sell to an individual, who has the money to snap up more than ten tons of gold, to keep it under their bed?

Justin laughed, "I can find a buyer, no problem to consume thirty-five tons of gold altogether, and the key is! I can sell it all at once at 40 percent of the market price!"

The rule for selling loot is a half-price cut based on the market price. Though gold, a special kind of loot, was at a great advantage during the sale since after melting it leaves no trace, it could ideally be sold for a higher price, even up to 70 or 80 percent of the market price. Yet, getting half the market price for thirty-five tons of gold at once was already good, the key was finding buyers who could and would dare to take on such a large amount of gold.

Alexander spoke in a low voice, "I’ll take care of the plane, and the sale price of gold can’t be less than 50 percent."

Justin ran his fingers through his hair and chuckled, "You can find a plane and finish the disguise?"

Alexander replied with composure, "Exactly, so I want 40 percent."

Yang Yi said sternly, "Divide it equally, split evenly among the three, no three or four percent."

Justin spoke gravely, "You two handle the plane. After you’ve got the gold, I’ll take care of getting the plane to land. You should know how difficult that is. 50 percent of the market price, and we get paid as soon as the plane lands. Do you agree?"
