Chapter 454: Chapter 442 Safe Evacuation

In a frantic rush, Yang Yi started the car, then turned to Jethro in the back seat and said, "Where are we going?"

Jethro sighed and replied, "To see a doctor, please, can you help me press down on the wound? I think I’m losing blood a bit too fast."

Jethro had wounds on his face, one on the left shoulder and one on the right rib, both of which were places he couldn’t conveniently press by himself.

The injury on his left shoulder was a through-and-through wound, and the one on his right rib was a long gash—it was impossible to keep pressure on the wounds.

Brian just glanced at Jethro and then said indifferently, "Bear with it."

The car sped off, driving quickly because Yang Yi and his company were still fleeing for their lives.

Everyone was fully armed, and storming into a hospital in Kyiv like that would be asking for trouble. Therefore, they couldn’t go to a big hospital, but surely Jethro, who was always at risk of getting injured, had a reliable doctor waiting to save his life.

"I’m really curious how you guys have been putting up with such a boss until now."

In response to Brian’s question, Jethro sighed deeply and said quietly, "Little Deyo isn’t my boss, his father is. But his father would never do things like this, definitely not."

Jethro was extremely vulnerable right now: he was injured and in pain, he didn’t have any reliable men by his side, and he was stuck with a highly unreliable superior.

Furthermore, Jethro had just had Trident perform a self-mutilating trick to save his life. If there was ever a time to get Jethro to spill some useful information, it was now.

"If Little Deyo isn’t your boss, then why do you listen to him? You said it yourself—the situation here was not bad. But if someone messes it up, you guys could very well fail."

Jethro grew even more distressed.

"Little Deyo isn’t my boss right now, but he will definitely be in the future. It’s normal for a boss to want to train his son to take over, right? The problem with Little Deyo is that he sees everything too simply, as if success is owed to him."

"So your boss is just going to stand by and do nothing? Is he completely indulging his son and letting him wreak havoc without interference?"

Jethro was silent for a long while before he said in a low voice, "Buddy, I don’t want to talk about this right now."

Yang Yi said, "Then why don’t you go solo? Honestly, I think you could totally make it on your own."

Jethro chuckled, then said quietly, "Go solo? Heh, you must be joking... "

Yang Yi said softly, "You’re badly injured and can’t work for Little Deyo in Ukraine anymore, so you’ll have to leave. Where will you go, and will someone send you off?"

Jethro exhaled and responded, "I need to recuperate. I’m going to do nothing for a while. I want to go somewhere sunny, to take a complete break. As for you, are you guys leaving Ukraine too?"

Yang Yi said, "We would never work for Little Deyo, so we’re definitely leaving Ukraine."

In a low voice, Jethro said, "After I return, I will first find Little Deyo. At the very least, he has to pay tonight’s mercenary fee. If it were up to me, I would give you guys the money right away, but with Little Deyo... I don’t know what he will do, but I think he should be able to pay the ten thousand US dollars."

After speaking, Jethro said in a low voice, "I need to rest for a while, I feel so tired, and I’m very sleepy..."

Jethro stopped talking. He remained motionless in the back seat, and it was unclear whether he had passed out, fallen asleep, or simply didn’t want to talk anymore.

Yang Yi and his group returned to their foothold, where Boyata had already arranged for a doctor to be waiting.

Deyo had returned to the foothold first with his men. He had visited Jethro once, and after seeing that the doctor was treating Jethro’s injuries, he went back. Later, he sent his men to check in again, and upon learning that Jethro had fallen asleep and would not be able to speak until at least the next day, he didn’t send anyone else.

Yang Yi didn’t inform Justin about the day’s events, nor did he share with Justin the words that Jethro had confided in him, because he had promised Jethro he would never reveal them.

The next day, Deyo personally came with his men to see Jethro.

Jethro’s injuries appeared to be much worse than they actually were, so it was from his bed that Jethro conducted his conversation with Deyo the following day, with the two talking in the room for about an hour.

When Deyo left, his face looked very unpleasant. Soon after his departure, one of Deyo’s men delivered a bag of cash.

After receiving the money, Jethro called Yang Yi into his room. Although he had seemed at death’s door in front of Deyo, now he was full of life, needing no assistance to get out of bed.

"Eighty thousand dollars, I’ve secured for you," he said, pointing to the money on the table, Jethro spoke with a relaxed air, "I’m leaving tomorrow, and Boyata will leave with me. Deyo originally wanted to talk to you about staying on, but I told him your assignment ends today and that you have no plans to continue working for him. Then he gave up the idea."

Yang Yi smiled and said, "Thanks."

Jethro shook his head and said, "What about you? Are you leaving, or will you stay and look for work? I advise you, Ukraine, like other places, is not like Africa; it’s not so easy for mercenaries here."

Yang Yi spread his hands and said, "We’re not sure yet, but we’ll probably be leaving Ukraine soon."

Jethro nodded and asked, "Do you need my help? I’m no longer up to handling big things, but I can still assist with small ones. If you have a destination in mind, I can arrange a plane for you. Your equipment seems pretty good; I suppose you won’t want to abandon it."

Yang Yi replied with a smile, "Thanks. If we need help, we’ll definitely ask you."

Jethro fell silent for a moment, then lowering his voice, he said, "Deyo’s approach won’t last, I’ve made preparations to come back and clean up the mess once I return. When I return, you can continue working for me, the price is negotiable. We’ve had a pleasant cooperation, and we know each other well. Working with me should be better than working with someone else."

Yang Yi responded with a smile, "No problem. Could you leave a phone number, so we can contact you directly when needed?"

Jethro readily agreed, "Of course, let’s exchange numbers."

After exchanging phone numbers, Jethro said gravely, "I’m leaving tomorrow, so you can stay here today, but you’ll need to find your own place tomorrow. I suggest you start looking for a new foothold now unless you plan to leave Ukraine with me tomorrow."

Yang Yi thought for a moment and said, "We’re not sure if we’re leaving right away, so it seems I’ll need to find a suitable place to stay today."
