Chapter 443 - 431

Chapter 443: 431

Yang Yi’s biggest problem right now is that he can’t command respect when acting as a leader.

In the Organization of Water, there are nothing but top talents from various industries. While Mike was alive, he would wholeheartedly help Yang Yi. Brian, to repay Yang Yi for his assistance, would aid him too, but they were helping Yang Yi, not taking orders from him.

Zhang Yong is an experienced old mercenary. He isn’t a part of the Organization of Water because he must be, and he stays only to give face to Yang Yi.

Xiao Ran, the cleaner’s mole and also a liaison, carries such significant clout. How could she possibly be genuinely subordinate to Yang Yi? She isn’t convinced by him at all, not in her heart and even less so with her words.

The only one who advances and retreats alongside Yang Yi, sharing life and death, is Kate.

As for Tang Guo and Schultz, they both could fare well outside the Organization of Water, but under Yang Yi, they can get what they most desire.

Then there are the few younger brothers that Yang Yi brought out from prison, and Boer.

Boer had no choice but to follow Yang Yi. And Chris and Hank, they’ve been won over by Yang Yi, not through coercion, but either way, they both respect Yang Yi, along with Rodriguez, who from the very beginning had placed himself quite low because he has always been loyal to Yang Yi.

Therefore, even if Chris is reluctant to be a mercenary, he wouldn’t refuse Yang Yi’s commands and would not dare question Yang Yi’s authority.

Hank has been conquered by Yang Yi. He didn’t want to join the Organization of Water but ultimately didn’t dare to leave because he respects Yang Yi.

Rodriguez has also respected Yang Yi from the start, so he positioned himself as an underling. However, Rodriguez’s abilities are limited; Yang Yi finds him easy to use yet unable to entrust with critical tasks.

The most important figures in the Trident Mercenary Group now are Brian and Paul, along with Zhang Yong, but neither of them respects Yang Yi. Meanwhile, Kate and Chris, who do respect Yang Yi, simply can’t match the capabilities of Brian and the other two.

Brian’s status is exceptional. He had already left but was forced to stay because of Mike’s death which burdened him with an unrepayable debt of gratitude.

Mike was always committed to making Yang Yi the true core of the Organization of Water. Whether Yang Yi’s decisions were right or wrong, Mike would offer advice but never make decisions for Yang Yi,

But Mike is dead.

In front of Mike and Brian, Yang Yi could only be a student. Brian was willing to teach Yang Yi and support him; however, unlike Mike, Brian looked down from above, and Brian’s attitude was also Paul’s attitude.

So, when Yang Yi faced a test, Brian didn’t hesitate to make decisions for him. Like the time Jethro asked to borrow a gun from Yang Yi, Brian handed over his own without a second thought.

Yang Yi was happy to accept Brian’s tutelage and his exceptional status in Trident, but he had to let Brian know one thing: He was prepared to face challenges, and no matter whether in the Organization of Water or in Trident, it had to be Yang Yi who called the shots.

This wasn’t a power struggle, nor did Yang Yi think Brian and Paul were useless and planned to kick them out.

There could only be one sun in the sky and one ruler in the nation. The Organization of Water might be small, but there must be only one voice, and that voice had to be Yang Yi’s. Yang Yi was willing to accept all of Brian’s suggestions; he had no problem with carrying them out as long as Brian proposed them, but Brian could not overstep him in decision-making.

That’s why there was this conversation between Yang Yi and Brian.

Yang Yi made his stance clear, and Brian chose to respect Yang Yi’s stance, openly expressing what needed to be said was better than hiding it until it fermented into an uncontrollable situation.

To truly have his subordinates sincerely convinced and willing to follow Yang Yi, it all depended on Yang Yi’s abilities and conduct, not because they were forced to follow him due to complicated relationships.

Yang Yi’s expression of his stance to Brian was only a temporary solution. To find a permanent cure, he would need to demonstrate his true capabilities.

Luckily, both Brian and Paul had the patience to watch Yang Yi grow and were willing to help him, so a temporary fix was sufficient to solve the problem.

Everything depended on whether Yang Yi could grow quickly. If he could not win the absolute loyalty of the four strongest members of Trident or Organization of Water, he would only serve as a coordinator, unable to become the true core.

Even Jethro could see this, or else he wouldn’t have included Brian in all his discussions with Trident.

After Yang Yi and Brian had stated their positions, life went on as usual, they rested for an afternoon, and when they were terribly bored, they would play cards or chat, as if nothing had happened.

It wasn’t until the next day that Jethro called on Yang Yi and the others to go for breakfast again.

As breakfast was nearly over, Jethro wiped the grease from his mouth and then smiled at everyone, "Today’s mission is a bit special. You need to wear civilian clothes, carry AK rifles in the cars, and dress like ordinary people. Gentlemen, go get ready. We leave in twenty minutes."

Following Jethro’s instructions, Yang Yi and his team changed into their clothes, only carrying pistols under their clothes while leaving behind items like bulletproof vests and helmets.

As usual, Yang Yi, Brian, and Jethro got into one car, and as they drove towards the center of Kyiv, Jethro said flatly, "Fellas, we’ve been getting along fine, so I’m willing to offer you an easy and simple side task where you can make some extra money, outside of your normal assignments."

Yang Yi smiled, "Sounds good, but let’s see what the mission is first. I’ll need to consider whether it’s something I should take on."

Jethro laughed, "It’s very simple... but let’s talk about it later. We’re going to Independence Square."

Yang Yi frowned, "Independence Square? That place is chaotic, and the streets are crawling with police and soldiers. Are you sure we should be going there?"

No wonder Yang Yi was questioning. Kyiv’s Independence Square was the focal point of Ukraine, teeming with soldiers. If the guns in their car were discovered, it would be very difficult to leave unscathed.

Still smiling, Jethro replied, "Yes, that’s exactly where we’re going. Don’t worry, no one will stop us."

A sense of caution suddenly arose in Yang Yi’s heart, and he spoke gravely, "What is this additional task you’re talking about?"

Jethro spread his hands, "It’s simple, just go there and open fire."

"Open fire at whom, the soldiers? Or the crowd gathered in the square?"

Jethro smiled, "Of course, at both sides. You understand, right?"
