Chapter 440: Chapter 428 Straightforward
"Are you up? It’s time for breakfast."
The door was knocked, and Boyata’s voice rang out.
Yang Yi walked to the dining room, only to see Jethro busy at the stove, with the eggs still sizzling in the frying pan.
"Sit down, just wait a bit longer, it’ll be ready soon. Call your brothers over for the meal," Jethro said.
Yang Yi hadn’t expected Jethro to be cooking himself, much less cooking for them.
The Trident Mercenary Group held a somewhat special status; they were closer to Jethro than other mercenary groups, but still not as close as Jethro’s deceased bodyguards.
The eight men of Trident sat at the dining table, and Jethro soon lifted the fried eggs out of the pan and then brought a bowl to the table.
"Five eggs per person, if that’s not enough, I’ll make more."
Four slices of bread, five fried eggs, and a big bowl of oatmeal porridge, Jethro personally handed out the fried eggs.
There were plenty of fried eggs, all heaped in a large bowl. Westerners liked their eggs runny, so a lot of the eggs had broken, with the yolk spilling out, but Jethro didn’t seem to mind.
Kate politely said, "Thank you, but five is too many; I can’t eat that many. Two would be plenty for me."
"I thought you would need more, considering the amount of physical activity you guys undertake, but I understand a lady’s concern. So, what about this lady here?"
Xiao Ran nodded slightly and replied, "Thank you, two is enough for me as well."
Jethro laughed and said, "Well then, gentlemen, you can have a larger share of my delicious fried eggs."
Jethro sat down in his spot, then wolfed down his food while confidently saying, "The appearance may be a bit off, but they taste pretty good, right?"
Yang Yi and the others did indeed have large appetites, especially since they didn’t know when they would be able to eat their next meal after breakfast, so they took the opportunity to eat as much as they could.
Jethro quickly finished his breakfast and then pushed his plate aside, saying, "Come out with me today; there shouldn’t be any trouble."
After speaking, Jethro wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and added in a grave voice, "Take your time eating. Once you’re done, pack your things. I need to make a few calls... We’ll leave in about half an hour."
Jethro stood up, and then Yang Yi noticed that as he walked away, Jethro wiped his hands on his leather jacket, which explained why the pockets on either side of Jethro’s jacket were always so shiny.
After breakfast, still in three cars, they followed Jethro into downtown Kyiv for a trip. Once they arrived, however, they were met with a long wait.
From ten in the morning until noon, Jethro never specified what they would do or whom they would meet. He constantly held a satellite phone in his hand but neither received nor made any calls.
In fact, Yang Yi had hoped to overhear something when Jethro made his calls.
Finally, after checking his watch again, Jethro said in a deep voice, "Let’s go, no more waiting."
Without a word, Yang Yi started the car, and then Jethro said, "We’re heading to Lviv. Do you know the way?"
Yang Yi shook his head and replied, "I can use the navigation."
Jethro chuckled, "Just follow my lead, I’m a living map, head straight first."
Traveling from Kyiv to Lviv was no easy task, since the roots of the unrest in Ukraine lay in Lviv, with strict checkpoints along the way and considerable disorder.
But whether the journey was easy or difficult was for Jethro to worry about, all Yang Yi had to do was drive.
They started out at noon, grabbed some food on the go, and indeed, the journey was arduous, particularly for Yang Yi and his companions who, although not wearing bulletproof vests or helmets, had their guns within reach, with a rocket launcher tossed in the trunk. Discovery of this would surely lead to serious consequences.
Jethro was extraordinarily resourceful, and despite the stumbling journey, they safely arrived in Lviv just after eleven o’clock that night, without incident.
Jethro directed Yang Yi to drive the car to a place that was completely unmarked on the map, where they could then see the lights shimmering through a forest.
"Lucky us, we’ve arrived, park here," he said.
After instructing Yang Yi to park by the roadside, Jethro pulled out his satellite phone and finally managed to dial a number.
After waiting awhile upon dialing, Jethro spoke in a deep voice, "Hello, Colonel Stepapiniko, my name is Jethro. I’m sorry for disturbing you at this hour, but I am currently just outside your military base. Could you please meet with me?"
Yang Yi couldn’t hear the voice on the phone, but Jethro quickly added, "I was referred by General Karavayev. I think it would be better for you to meet with me. I have a gift for you."
After waiting a bit longer, Jethro hung up the phone and then turned to Yang Yi, "Keep going, to the entrance of the military base."
Yang Yi drove forward about a kilometer to a military base entrance, where a lieutenant came out and, after signaling for them to roll down the car window, spoke a few words softly in Ukrainian.
Jethro told Yang Yi, "Only our car can go in. Tell the brothers to wait outside, don’t worry, there won’t be any trouble."
Yang Yi picked up the walkie-talkie and said sternly, "You guys wait outside."
The lieutenant got into their car and took a seat in the back along with Brian. He noticed the gun on the seat but didn’t show any reaction.
Jethro had Yang Yi stop in front of a building and then spoke quietly, "You guys wait for me in the car, I’ll be right out."
After giving instructions to Yang Yi, Jethro got out of the car and followed the lieutenant into the building.
Once Jethro was out of sight, Brian murmured, "Jethro is a man who acts first and talks later. He doesn’t have much certainty coming here; it’s hard to say whether he’s reckless or courageous."
Yang Yi said softly, "A person who seems bold and even a bit rude, is actually quite thoughtful, right?"
"Exactly, he’s cautious. Don’t be fooled by his appearance. If he deliberately presents himself as rough and straightforward, then you should be doubly careful around him. Such people can often be very troublesome."
Yang Yi nodded lightly.
The two fell silent, calmly waiting for Jethro to return. After about an hour, Jethro emerged from the building alone, and as soon as he got in the car, he jokingly asked, "How was it, tired?"
"It’s okay, not tired."
Jethro seemed to be in a good mood, and he laughed, "Well, let’s endure a bit more, since we’re already here. Let’s go meet another person. We can leave now."
