Chapter 436: Chapter 424 Move Around
Why drive for Jethro? Because as a driver, you get the closest access to the boss. Often, a boss’s secretary isn’t as clued in as the driver, since the boss won’t hide anything from the driver, nor can they.
The car, under Jethro’s guidance, headed towards downtown Kyiv. It was already night, and the situation in Kyiv had become very chaotic lately, so there were very few cars and people on the road. The Ukrainian parliament had passed a resolution to restrict public movement, which resulted in an increase in checkpoints. As Yang Yi drove deeper into the city, encountering checkpoints became unavoidable.
Seeing a checkpoint from a distance, Yang Yi asked Jethro, "Which way should we go?"
They were all fully armed, with guns and all. If Jethro didn’t have a way to deal with it, just the gear they were carrying would have spelled big trouble for them.
"Don’t worry about it, just drive through."
Yang Yi drove straight up to the barricaded roadblock, and then Jethro rolled down his window and said a few words loudly in Ukrainian, after which he pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket, unfolded it for the approaching policeman to see, and then the policeman waved his hand, and they were let through.
Jethro closed the window and folded the paper he had shown to the policeman and slipped it back into his pocket.
"What’s that? Looks like it worked well."
Yang Yi asked casually, and Jethro replied just as casually, "It’s an order signed by the chief of the police headquarters. It must be obeyed; this thing is essential. Otherwise, you can’t even hit the road. You wouldn’t want to be detained by the police for carrying a full load of munitions, would you? Ha ha."
Jethro laughed heartily, but no sooner had they passed the police checkpoint when they were stopped by another checkpoint ahead.
"This is a military checkpoint. Police orders don’t work on them. Just wait a moment."
Jethro made a phone call and only after the call was connected did he wave his hand to signal Yang Yi to drive forward.
The car stopped in front of the military barricade. This wasn’t a checkpoint because all vehicles were prohibited from passing through here.
The car came to a halt, and as a soldier armed with a gun approached the car, Jethro cracked the window open and extended his phone out, saying a few words.
The soldier took the phone, spoke a couple of sentences, and then a lieutenant came over. After the officer also took the phone, the phone was immediately handed back to Jethro, and he waved his hand to let them pass.
After the car passed the military barricade, Yang Yi whispered, "Boss, could you tell me where we are going? Are we headed to a military base?"
Jethro shook his head, "No, it’s just that this route allows us to pass through smoothly. Other routes might get us intercepted. The situation in Kyiv is very chaotic; we need to be careful."
The car continued onward, and finally, Jethro said in a solemn voice, "We’re here."
The car stopped outside a high-end residential area. Jethro told Yang Yi to stop the car, and then he said gravely, "You guys wait for me outside. If anyone questions you, show them this."
Jethro took out a piece of paper. Yang Yi couldn’t understand Ukrainian, but Jethro quickly whispered, "It’s a special order signed by Ukraine, enough to handle things. Wait for me here, and be careful."
Yang Yi whispered back, "Are you going alone? Maybe both of us should go with you. It’s too dangerous for you to go by yourself."
Jethro hesitated for a moment but finally shook his head, "No need, there’s no danger here. Just wait for me."
Jethro got out of the car, looked around, and then quickly walked toward a house with lights on.
Yang Yi turned to look at Brian, who gently shook his head and said solemnly, "We’ll just wait for him here."
No one spoke, and everyone in the three cars sat quietly, waiting for Jethro to return.
About half an hour later, Jethro came out.
Jethro’s expression was extremely unsightly. He got into the car, but didn’t indicate whether he wanted to leave or stay; he just sat there silently, deep in thought.
After quite a while, Jethro finally spoke up.
"Do you dare do something for me?"
Yang Yi looked at Jethro and said in a solemn voice, "What is it?"
Taking a deep breath, Jethro calmly said, "I want to meet someone, but he flat out refuses to see me. I know he’s at home, and I have to see him!"
Since Jethro was asking Yang Yi if he dared to do something for him, the implication was that the task would have serious consequences, so Yang Yi didn’t speak out, waiting for Jethro to explain.
Jethro took a deep sigh, then looked at Yang Yi and said solemnly, "This man is Arseny Pavlovich, the Americans’ lackey, as well as the initiator and behind-the-scenes supporter of this movement in Ukraine. If things go as expected, he is very likely to take control of the country."
A person often seen in the news, Yang Yi smiled and said, "If you’re not afraid, then we’re not afraid."
Jethro nodded, then he said gravely, "There are four bodyguards in that house. I need to force my way in to see Arseny! But it’s best not to hurt people, and definitely no killing, or there will be nothing to talk about."
Brian suddenly said, "This is very risky. We’re in the heart of Kyiv; the streets are full of police and soldiers. If gunfire breaks out, we probably won’t be able to leave this place."
Jethro coldly said, "Then don’t use guns. Now, I want to know if you can do it."
Yang Yi smiled and said, "If it’s just four people, then there shouldn’t be a problem."
Jethro said in a deep voice, "Then go and deal with the people inside, I’ll wait for you in the car. Let me know when you’re done."
Yang Yi nodded, then he whispered, "Wait a moment."
Yang Yi opened the door and got out of the car, then he and Brian went up to Zhang Yong’s car and said softly, "We need to get into that house and quietly subdue four people."
Zhang Yong whispered, "You mean subdue, not take out, right?"
"Correct, no one can die, and it’s best not to injure anyone either."
"That’s going to be tough."
Yang Yi whispered, "It’s not easy, but we can do it, right?"
Zhang Yong smiled and said, "I’m definitely fine. It’s up to you guys."
With a stern face, Paul said, "What’s the problem, let’s get started."
He took off his helmet, then Paul started to remove his bulletproof vest, while Yang Yi took his off outside the car; the rifles would have to be left behind too, they were too cumbersome.
After all the preparations were done, Yang Yi whispered, "Let’s go, show Jethro what we’re capable of."
"Is there a payout? This is extra work."
Zhang Yong asked softly then chuckled, saying, "Forget it, with or without money, let’s do it. Just consider it a bit of exercise."
