Chapter 433: Chapter 421 Preparing for a Rainy Day

Yang Yi made a phone call to Justin. After Justin picked up, he didn’t speak to Yang Yi immediately but first quietly gave some instructions to someone else. Then he whispered to Yang Yi, "It’s me. Is there something you need?"

Yang Yi lowered his voice and said, "There’s been an incident today. I was following Jethro to a negotiation when we were ambushed. Six of Jethro’s bodyguards died; only one survived, and he’s critically injured."

As soon as he heard this, Justin became interested and asked urgently, "Do you know who they were meeting with?"

"Ukrainian military. From what I gathered from the conversations with Jethro’s men, they had met several times before. Today, Jethro brought eight hundred thousand US dollars in cash. The attack happened just as he was about to hand over the money to them."

Justin paused for a moment, then said solemnly, "Where did it take place?"

"In an abandoned building. I speculate someone had received news in advance, entered the building to lie in wait, and then the people Jethro was meeting with didn’t thoroughly search the building. When they met, those who lay in wait launched their attack. The attack targeted both parties, Jethro and his negotiation counterparts."

Justin said with interest, "This is intriguing. Who leaked the news? If it was the people negotiating with Jethro who leaked it, that’s simpler. But if it was someone from Jethro’s side, that would be interesting."

Yang Yi asked in a low voice, "Do you know what’s going on? Can you tell me to clear up some of my doubts?"

Justin chuckled, "It’s simple. Andre has made his move. Andre is Big Ivan’s man in charge of Europe, keeping watch over the most important areas for Big Ivan. If he found out that Deyo’s men were stealing from him, of course, he would fight back."

Yang Yi asked in a low voice, "But why would it involve the military?"

"Let me explain simply. Ukraine has a massive amount of armaments left over from the Soviet era, a really massive quantity. Ukraine wasn’t the Soviet Union’s frontline against NATO, but it was a transportation hub and logistical center, where the Soviets prepared strategic-level armament depots for World War III, and there were many of them.

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, these vast amounts of armaments lost their purpose. Ukraine’s military couldn’t possibly use so much of it, and it wasn’t even calculated how much was left. These arms dealers didn’t need to build their storages or purchase weapons to resell. If they needed something, they could just take it straight from the armament depots. They could have as much as they wanted, needing only to bribe the people who guard these depots, making the storage facilities practically their own."

Yang Yi whispered, "I see, so the things are in the depot, and the depot belongs to the Ukrainian government. Before, Big Ivan could take armaments from the depots as he pleased. But now, Deyo wants to snatch away the depots, and the key to seizing these depots is to win over those guarding them."

"Exactly, that’s why Jethro would deal with the military. Big Ivan can control the arms market because he barely has any costs; he just bribes those guarding the armament depots. The steady stream of arms converted into cash, he merely needs to develop the market, and no one can compete with him because his costs are so low. Deyo, on the other hand, primarily sells Western arms, which are much more expensive, so he dreams of acquiring Big Ivan’s sources."

Yang Yi whispered, "Okay, I understand. So, how much is this information worth?"

Justin laughed, "Since you gave me information, and I gave you information, we’re even now. Besides, this intelligence isn’t worth much because the events of today will soon spread. I just need to know who died today to understand what happened. So, your intelligence is time-sensitive, but it lacks exclusivity, you understand."

After thinking about it, Yang Yi realized Justin was right; intelligence that is time-sensitive but where the timing doesn’t hold much significance indeed isn’t very valuable.

"Alright, now Jethro has no one else to rely on. I risked my life to save him. Unless something unexpected happens, Jethro will have to depend on us. This is a good opportunity to gather intelligence."

Justin, quite surprised, said, "Oh? Tell me more about the details."

Yang Yi explained in detail what had happened that day. Once he finished, Justin started to get excited.

"You’re right. Jethro will surely be looking for new bodyguards, but he’ll also trust you even more. If..."

After a moment’s hesitation, Justin lowered his voice and said, "Next, you’ll have the chance to obtain a lot of important information. For example, if Jethro decides to attack Andre and you can inform me in advance, then that intelligence could be worth several million US dollars!"

Yang Yi whispered, "Do you have contact with Andre?"

Sheepishly, Justin said, "Of course. Is that even a question..."

If Jethro does decide to attack Andre and Yang Yi manages to inform Justin in time, then this information will most certainly be valuable. However, the risks are high; if Andre sets up an ambush, he won’t show mercy to Trident’s men.

After a moment of contemplation, Yang Yi said, "Alright, I got it."

Justin whispered, "If it’s inconvenient for you to message me, that’s fine. Remember the most important thing: if you can obtain information about Deyo from Jethro, that would be ideal. Additionally, it’s not the best time to go to war yet since Ukraine is still in its final period of stability. Wait until the current government totally collapses, then that will be the time for Jethro to exert his power. Secure the top echelons first and then deal with the rest. Once the new government takes over, the armament depots won’t be much of an issue for Deyo anymore."

Yang Yi whispered, "Understood. It’s still a probing phase."

Justin chuckled dryly and then said gravely, "But the progress is good. I’m looking forward to receiving more valuable information from you. That’s all for now. My phone is available to you 24/7. Call me about anything. Goodbye."

Yang Yi ended the call, thought about how to handle the upcoming issues, and then went back into the main hall.

Zhang Yong and the others had resumed gambling. Yang Yi rejoined the crowd, then he murmured, "Stop playing around. I feel this place is dangerous. Keep at least two people on lookout, an experienced one and a newcomer. Today’s attackers were Big Ivan’s men, and this is Big Ivan’s turf. Jethro is hiding here with so many people; I think it’s only a matter of time before our position is exposed. So we need to be ready."

Zhang Yong tossed aside his cards and nodded, "Makes sense. Let’s take turns standing guard every two hours. Vacuum, you’re on guard duty with me."

Yang Yi asked in confusion, "Vacuum? Who here is called Vacuum?"
